This was the number one song in the singles charts the day I was born. January 26th 1960. Number one in the album charts was the Original sound track from South Pecific.
Thanks so much for helping to keep Mike's memory alive - great montage as the song plays. This was one of the very first UK number ones of the sixties, a year or two before the Merseybeat explosion/Stones etc.
There's now a fine book about Michael 'The Man Who Would Be Bing'
When I was in Cabaret in Jersey I met Michael Holiday he was well liked in the Island throughout the season, and indeed got invited by the great Bing Crosby to his house in California, who incidentally was his hero
In the six weeks before his sad suicide, I met him at the Holiday Camp in Jersey sadly he seemed alone and down in the dumps, I loved him then and still play his music even to this day.
I was at school when this song came out, and I loved it from the start. Mike was a great singer and his suicide shook me .He was successful and seemed to have the world in his hands at the time. I've looked for this song on YouTube, before, but never found it. Thanks for posting such a good recording, too.
