Egads... Dawson @ right? Um, no he's Center. I'd like Ellis Valentine in the outfield and add Warren Cromartie at First. Rodney Scott for shortstop and the spaceman Bill Lee pitching. Yeah that's what I'm talking about.
This videos title should be " Montreal Expos all-time batting order (MLB starting lineup) ". The nationals will never come close to the talent that the Expos put on the field through the years.
Players that I would add to this list: Hubie Brooks, Ellis Valentine, Larry walker, Pedro Martinez, Jeff Reardon, John Wetteland, Ross the boss, Rusty Staub, ....oh their are too many to mention. Felipe Alou manager also.
The right thing for MLB to do is to bring back the Expos.
Dawson has to be in centrefield, Raines in left, and Guerrero in right. Shortstop has to be Cabrera, certainly not speier who had the range of a refrigerator. First and second would also be a good debate, and a shame you can't fit Larry Walker in there.
I watched the Expos from day one, all the bad trades, all the heartbreaks, and still can't get as excited about any other team
Hard to argue with the lineup except for Gary should be batting 4th and Rusty Staub needs to be in there. Also, forget about the current day Nationals. Just remember them as the Montreal Expos. The Nationals have unretired all numbers that the Expos retired. Talk about forgetting their history. I say forget the present day Nationals and remember the days of the Montreal Expos!! If the Winnepeg Jets can return to the NHL, maybe the Expos can return to Montreal some day. God Bless Gary Carter!
Hard to disagree with this lineup, although Carter should be batting ahead of Wallach and Galarraga... and I think I'd go for Wil Cordero circa 1994 over Chris Speier...
Surprised Larry Walker and Rusty Staub didn't make the cut. Also, understood it's a lineup, but too bad you couldn't have added relief pitchers - Would have inserted Jeff Reardon and John Wetteland.
Totally bang in with your Outfielders but you have them in the wrong positions entirely. Dawson was the best Centerfielder in the game. Vlady was in Right where you put the guys have cannons for arms. Weaker outfielders are always in Left (Raines). HAVE to have Raines leading off, Vidro batting second , Dawson in his usual 3 spot, Vlady batting Cleanup. Big Cat # 5 man, Wallach in the 6. Carter in 7. Gotta give Spike Owen the nod over Speier. Neither could hit but at least Owen could field.
Great Lineup!!! Their are so many players to choose from. When you have Gary at the 7th spot, you know you have a killer lineup. I would also have Hubie at SS for his bat and a lefty hitter in Walker playing RF or 1B. I woul also mention a lefty in R.Johnson and include Reardon as a reliever. Put Raines at left, Dawson at centre and Guerreo at right. The expos had so much talent. Its a shame that MLB and Mr Selig ripped this team apart and shipped to DC. Expos NEED to come back home in MTL.
Interesting choices but you made a mistake You had switched Dawson and Raines positions in the field.
Other an players to have considered. Pedro and Dennis Martinez, Rusty Staub, Jeff Reardon, Larry Walker, Tony Perez, Warren Cromartie, Rondney Scott, The Spaceman, John Wetteland. Jerry White (best Expo Utility player), Charlie Lea
Funny thing is that in all the comments and the video itself, there are no mentions at all for one of the best Expos player in history, Rusty Stub, also no mentions for "Frenchy" Claude Raymond. Worth mentionning : Jeff Fassero, Warren Cromartie, Marquis Grissom, and last but certainly not least, Moise Alou. He was a NIGHTMARE for the NL pitchers at the time.. :)

vlad guerrero was a monster in montreal, scariest guy for any pitcher to face, he is having amazing year this year as well, hall of famer no question about it
this kind of list is always controversial. i agree all the way, except DENNIS MARTINEZ PITCHED A PERFECT GAME! PROBABLY THE ONLY THING THAT WILL REMAIN OF THE EXPOS HISTORY BESIDES GARY CARTER'S HOF CAP!! props to dennis, please
my expos best team C - Carter 1b - Oliver 2b - DeShield SS - Speier 3b - Wallach RF - Valentine CF - Dawson LF - Guerrero SP - Rogers, P Martinez, D Martinez Bullpen - Reardon, Wetteland
My Expos Team: C: Gary Carter 1b: Al Oliver 2b: Rodney Scott 3b; Tim Wallach SS: Hubie Brooks RF: Vlad Guerrero C: Andre Dawson LF: Tim Raines SP: Pedro Martinez, Steve Rodgers, Charlie Lea, Bill Stoneman and Dennis Martinez Closer: John Wetteland
Hubie at SS? With a great line-up like that I'd be tempted to try Owen. Okay, he couldn't hit... but he could hold an infield together, and would give your pitcher some added assurance.
raines lf vidro 2b guerrero rf walker 1b dawson cf carter c wallach 3b orlandocabrera ss rogers p all from the expos farm system check walker's time at 1b, especially in 94 94, argh
That is simply a beautiful outfield. Not many of even the most historic all time teams can top that (I'd put em up against anyone excepting the Yankees and Giants).
Hmmm... guys like Henderson and Williams throw this type of thing off a bit. Either one beats the best Expo (Dawson or Vlad), but Tris and Hooper don't pull their weight against the other two (besides being dead-ball era players, which makes comparison a bit futile). Reggie makes the A's a different story. Nice call on Simmons, too, but he's the only one of the 6 who didn't get his MVP, so I still call it pretty even... especially with Raines, Staub, and Alou on the bench.
Oops... Just noticed brotherexpo had Walker at first. I was counting him as one of my outfielders... of course that gives me three right fielders, so maybe I'll have to give you the A's...
Here's my pick: 1st: David Segui (Gallaraga struck out wayyy! too many times for my liking) 2nd: Jose Vidro (Rodney Scott is a very close second though) Short: Orlando Cabrera (Chris Speier would have been a good pick as well) 3rd: Eli Left: The Rock Center: The Hawk Right: Vladimir Guerrero Catcher: No choice but the Kid (even though I couldn't stand him) Righthanded starter: Pedro Martinez Lefthander: The Spaceman Setup man: Woody Fryman Closer: John Wetteland
Absolutely! When compared with the other significant third basemen in Expos history (Bob Bailey, Larry Parrish or Sean Berry), Tim Wallach has shown more consistency both with the glove and with the bat. Bailey had no range, Parrish struck out too often in clutch situations (the same could be said about Andre Dawson, though) and Berry was streaky.
Yeah, I agree; not much to chose from at third. But Berry over Wallach is still not nearly the stretch, in my eyes, as Segui over Galarraga. Besides leading the league in strikeouts four times, Galarraga also lead the league in hits, doubles, home runs, batting average, and twice in RBI. Segui never lead the league in anything. The big cat also has two gold gloves, finished one shy of 400 home runs and could steal bases. He and Segui just aren't in the same league in my book.
Dennis Martinez was a solid pitcher but Steve Rogers helped lead the Expos to their only division title in 1981. Perhaps I should've consider Rodney Scott for that same reason since I believe he was on that 1981 team also. I'm not sure. Thank you for commenting. Is that you meant by the ????
Here's my pick: 1st Gallaraga 2nd Delino Deshields short Jose Vidro 3rd Eli, Timmy Wallach left Raines center The Hawk Dawson Right Larry Walker Catcher Gary the Kid Pitcher Dennis El Presidente El Perfecto July 28th 1991 Chavez Ravine Martinez Hold man Mel Rojas Closer Jeff Reardon/ Johnny Wettland
nice try, but this list is way off how about 1st base - Andres Gallarage 2nd base - Rodney Scott shortstop - Tim Foli 3rd base - Larry Parrish left field - Tim Raines center field - Andre Dawson right field - Ken Singleton catcher - Gary Carter pitcher - Steve Rogers
@mmdeutsch Maybe you lost memories to place Ken Singleton in front of Vladimir Guerrero!!! Or maybe, you didn't watch TV after 1992...! Guerrero in 1998: 38 HR, 109 RBI, 324 AVG (Expos homerun record), in 1999: 42 HR 131 RBI, 316 AVG...another home run record!...in 2000: 44HR 123 RBI, 345 AVG (still another home run record) Best season of Ken Singleton: 23 HR 103 RBI... ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?
