Dividends come out of company earnings and are already taxed 35% at corporate level. So when he paid $3 million on $20M in earnings and most of it 15% qualified dividends, he was getting dividends on $20M in corporate earnings that were ‘qualified’ because they were ALREADY TAXED. They were taxes at 35%. So getting $20 million in dividends means he got dividends that had already been taxes AT 35%* or another $7 MILLION.

The other 1,000 tax payers you mentioned can take advantage of the same capital gains tax loses as Mitt did if they chose that riskier route of revenue. Many people, even mid or lower-income brackets seek tax breaks that will keep more of their hard earned money in their pocket rather than the government's such as daycare expense, mileage, etc.

A childish "maybe" is not a presidential response. He could have said "Absolutely, I'm very proud of my father for establishing that tradition; we will release several years of tax records in April, the exact number is to be determined." It was however smart of Mitt to note that he did not inherit money from his parents (that should be fact checked).

Thanks to liberal policy the world economy is crashing. We must do two things to stop the meltdown NOW!!! Firstly, we need to raise all payroll taxes 10% for one year. We also need to stop (right now) wasteful handout programs like medicare, social security, unemployment,, etc. and lower the minimum wage to $2/hr so we can compete with China. If the perception of making money or wealth is that it's immoral and evil, then be assured you will never become wealthy when congress makes it harder to become wealthy. There will always be wealthy individuals, even in the old USSR. You will never be able to prevent the rich from being rich, regardless of the taxes, but you certainly can prevent yourself from becoming rich.
