If I was gonna do it over again, I'd go with a 30mm or 32mm Mikuni VM series carb.
The 34mm works good, but is very difficult to jet because it is really too big for the motor. It's still running very well 4 years later, but due for a top end rebuild. You can find a 30mm VM Mikuni on ebay pretty cheap. Buy the rubber flange that is made for the 30mm, and then make the adapter plate.
lol, i have a 1979 yamaha g1 gas 2 stroke golf cart and it is the fastest golf cart around it will do 28 mph stock with out the govnor being wide open, its never been rebuilt and i just checked the compression and its blowing 128 now im curuntly bulding a lift kit for it, the g1 isnt the nicest looking but for speed i highly recemend it
Thankyou for responding, what you described is what I had thought about doing also! I have turned the governor screw in all the way and pitched the lock nut. The cart will do 20 mph with 2 on board and almost 22 solo.......that is without any mods...so far!
what did you do with the govenor? Did you bypass it or something else? I just bought a G1 and have adjusted the govenor all the way as fast as it will allow and it is still too slow for what I want. Any thoughts? Thankyou for posting!
I removed the governor. You don't need to remove it like I did. The bracket on the governor shaft(sticking out of the differential) has a "D" shaped hole in it and clamps to the governor shaft. If you drill the hole out so it is round it can rotate on the shaft. Just don't tighten the clamping screw. That effectively bypasses the governor.
The head is shaved .030". Exhaust butterfly removed. Intake and exhaust ported and matched. Governor removed. 34mm Mikuni carb and adapter plate installed. UNI air filter installed. New piston/rings/bearing/gasket set.
appariintyly it sounds like it lol i got a G2 yamaha golf cart which needs the engine rebuilt couse its starting to burn oil now couse when we took it to the strip mines my ferind behind me started noticing blueish/white smoke from the exhaust
You still have this G1?

well by looking at the video, there is no more air intake canister. just a filter rigged on the end of the carb.
