@MrCraigblaze It was cancelled after two seasons after it went through three different formats. To my knowledge it's never been shown in syndication and is not available on DVD. Too bad because it was a good show ... at least in its first season. Good cast, too (Nancy Fox was extremely cute and adorable).
I would like to have seen the first season. I saw the version with Paul Lynde here and it was not so great. I am not old enough have more than a periphial memory of the Paul Lynde episodes, though I do seem to remember hearing the theme coming from the television. I wish shows had end themes these days.
A full episode of this series is now available for viewing on YouTube. Search for: "Temperatures Rising - Healer Man". Note that it's from the second season with Paul Lynde.
When Elizabeth Montgomery wanted out of "Bewitched", her husband William Asher created "The Paul Lynde Show" and the first incarnation of "Temperature's Rising" to fulfill the 2 remaining contract seasons of Bewitched. Since ratings were poor for both, Lynde's show was canceled and he moved over for a spot in the re-tooled "Rising" (which did little to help ratings).
@jknuttel Yes she was cute (I had a minor crush on her), and Joan Van Ark was always so damned beautiful. Reva Rose (Nurse McInerney) was in so many commercials over the years it's impossible to keep track (the most famous being the Camay ad with Avery Schreiber where she's a waitress in a diner and he rubs soap all over her hands and she gets all hot and bothered).
Too bad it wasn't on 30 years later when theme song could've been "Temperature Rising"! : "You got the right stuff, bro, to turn women on! I'll be the papa, you can be the Mom, o-ho!" :)
Bentom86, you are absolutely right. I had to search a bit to find this clip and was surprised it hit. As I recall this was a damned good show and everyone I know watched it. I don't know why it died so quickly. I had a crush on Nancy Fox the ditz
Forget your ER's, Grey's Anatomy, House, Mercy, and all the other medical tv shows of today, i would rather watch these classic shows over and over, sorry i'm just an old skool nerd!!
Could tell this was produced by Screen Gems (Columbia Picture's TV subsidiary) from the credits; they have the same look as another Screen Gems show ("Bewitched"). I thought at first Neal Hefti must have done the music; the theme sounds a LOT like "The Odd Couple" theme song. But this theme was done by Shorty Rogers. James Whitmore sure had a head full of hair back then! And the late great Cleavon Little was practically a force of nature! Left us much too soon! THANKS for posting this!
@tonywallacess45 Hey! So it's not just me! I thought the same thing too- the theme for both songs are so similar, they're nearly interchangeable. I do like the big, brassy arrangement on this though- very excellent! It just sounds so of its era.
This is why You Tube is a dream for classic TV junkies. Before playing this very clip, I had not seen a frame of this show since it originally aired, and it somehow made a lasting impact on a 6 yr old. Anyone who saw this show knew how funny Cleavon Little was before "Blazing Saddles". Caproom 99 hit it right on the head. No disrespect to Paul Lynde, but this was Cleavon's show and it should've stayed that way. The bosses made a mistake by re-tooling it.
the theme music always reminded me of the them music for the "odd couple" show. I have only the vaguest memory of this show- wish I had paid more attention then! I see shorty rogers did the music for the show; I always loved what he did for another Screen Gems show, "The Partridge Family," at least for the 1st season- wish they had stuck with his work for the rest of the run of the show because he had some great material! Love that closing theme!
Mr. Asher did this show after he and his then-wife, the late Liz Montgomery, finished the "Bewitched" run. In an interview over a decade ago, he noted that his decision to proceed with this was one of numerous factors leading to their divorce.
William Asher (producer of the later episodes of "BEWITCHED") was behind this series; he was the one who added Paul Lynde as the star in second two, because he WANTED him as the star [having failed to make him one in "THE PAUL LYNDE SHOW" the season before].
Underrated comedy, at least in its first season. Cleavon Little showed the comic gifts that would serve him well in "Blazing Saddles," and James Whitmore turned out to be a fine comic foil. But things were ruined in the second season, when Whitmore was replaced by Paul Lynde, and Little was turned into a "serious" doctor as to not steal the supposed laughs from the new star.
Sorry, I was actually referring to its brief run of new episodes in the Summer of 1974. If they didn't make "Blazing Saddles" this series probably would have been cancelled halfway into its second season.
@caproom99 Paul Lynde was under contract to ABC, but they canceled his Paul Lynde Show. So they gave him a birth on Temperature's Rising, which became "The New Temperture's Rising." At the same time, he was on Hollywood Squares. I remember Peter Marshall telling the audience to be sure and catch Paul Lynde on "The New Temperature's Rising," and Paul- who knew the show was tanking- snarked, "Don't rub it in!"
Thanks for uploading this. This is one of the one/two season shows from the early 70s I've heard about but never seen. (I was born in 1977). Hope I can see a whole episode somewhere sometime.

It's been 37 years so my memories of this show are a little hazy. One thing I DO remember vividly is that NANCY FOX was SOOOOOOOOOOOOO CUTE!!!!!!

@JubalCalif this sounds exactly like Neal Hefti's Odd Couple theme. I remember this great tune and its over 30 years. Grest show.

I think the reason "Temperatures Rising" lasted as long as it did was because Little's role in "Blazing Saddles"
