  • the cheers he started getting after this was amazing

  • Back when wrestlers became their characters in every aspect.

  • Mankind is why the WWF was so amazing

  • So many people moved over to World Wrestling Entertainment for reasons like this, lawls!

  • This is so amazing. How have I NEVER seen this?

  • @jamielowndes don't know, I saw this on tv and let me tell you i never saw anything like it before or since.

  • BEST SHIT EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Inspirational

  • can you upload this video in g major?

  • Man i remember watching this... It seriously made sew foley differently....

  • That's my uncle, hey Micky!!!!

  • @911jv I'm a...BAD PERSON!!!!!

  • wow this is great

  • FOOLEY is Good

  • milkmanv1: Foley & JR are almost at the same level of friendship as Austin is to JR, so really, JR openly took the attack in this shoot work, meant to promote Mankind & get people to understand the character's motives more. It only served to push Mankind into becoming a face later on, because people could relate to the oddball underdog.

  • vargaisking/themacdown/TheJetsFan4Eva: Scripted or not, this was brilliant storytelling on Mick's part, since a lot of it was actually lifted from his true-to-life experiences as the awkward-around-girls oddball kid who was obsessed with pro wrestling (to which many a die-hard fans can relate to at some point in their lives).

  • Man after all these years, this still gives me chills. Great work from Mick here.

  • 'Jimmy'! Ha!

  • I really love that background music it really sets the mood

  • Mick Foley is the best shooter of all time he should have gone in movies hes a great actor showman and writer

  • I've always found this interview to be a milsetone in WWE's legacy, Mick Foley is just so brilliant here absolutely brilliant.

  • AH HA HA HA, JIMMY.

  • This was a great promo, but it was stupid how he just dropped Paul Bearer without explanation or even mention after this.

  • This is what today's wrestling is missing. Raw emotion. Mick was able to get into a psyche that was not of his own. He was able to make us believe that everything he was saying really happened (which some of it did, such as the bloody t-shirt story). Mick belongs in the list of the best guys on the mic and I mean up there with guys like the Rock as well.

  • @WFAMoFo this is what's missing with wrestling today. The realism in the stories and characters like Mankind. Even Stone Cold back in '96 spoke of why he was so pissed off and hellbent on unleashing hell because he was jerked around for 7 years by other wrestling promotions like WCW where he never was given a chance to shine and then was fired on the phone as opposed to what he preferred, face to face. WWE needs to bring back the realism in their stories

  • Mick Foley is the best promo worker in the history of this business in my opinion.

  • mick foley was an amazing actor 2 play someone as psycho as mankind but also 2 make u feel sorry 4 him he actually is such a good actor and an amazing promo worker i think mick foley is truly a total legend

  • thumbs up if you cryied :'(

  • ITS KINDA SAD BUT IS IT REAL?

  • On the one hand, this is pro wrestling. On the other hand, the old photos and home video footage impart a sense of reality. So, how much of Mick's story here is real and how much is kayfabe?

  • @leetdahl Read his first book. it is real

  • @leetdahl

The stories are Mick's and real, but he was telling them as Mankind.

  • which mankind do yall like more? the one where he is dressed up in brown or the one where he wore a business shirt and tie?

  • @thebuckrogers22 I prefer the former myself.

  • @thebuckrogers22 I liked brown but I started watching when he wore business shirt and tie. When he started wearing the business shirt and tie he still loved pain but the element of being disturbed was sort of dropped. I prefer '96-'97 Mankind

  • aww

  • hulkamania is gonna run wild on mankind

  • This music is awesome.

  • brilliant promo!

  • Genius. Simple, this is why I want to be a wrestler and just have one tag team match with him :)

  • HAVE A NICE DAYYYYYYY

  • 0:13 scared me a little but i love mankind! thats why i was him for halloween :)

  • This got people really behind him in a way that I don't think they ever imagined.

  • Thanks for posting this. This was one of my favorite segments ever with Foley.

  • Ho. Ly. Shit. That. Was. Phenomenal. This was like an Oscar-worthy acting performance. Mick Foley really is God.

  • @Ringotastic haha wrestlers should be allowed to get oscars for their acting. Today's WWE stars would get none though. Mankind would have a bunch though. If only other people understood how great this interview is

  • @Ringotastic most of it wasn't acting

  • very sad i cant belive he want throw all that stuff in his life more guy .its fake belive me all that stuff he is tilling you is fake its all acting he is really is a nice guy he has a family and a wife he is a really nice guy

  • @taylor00ful It's true that Mick really is a super nice guy but if you do your research, you'll find out that the things he says in this interview are actually true. I know for a fact about how he was telling about how he wanted to be a Shawn Michaels type of wrestler when he first came to WWE in the late 80's but was treated like a jobber and then was released. He was pissed off that the WWE at the time didn't want him then but after years of tearing up his body to the point of looking ugly

  • @taylor00ful the WWE then wanted him. It angered him because Shawn Michaels in a way had what Mick wanted to be. The things he talks about is more of an anger that in reality he's shrugged off. Mick is a nice guy for real but the things he's endured are true which is what made him the man he is today

  • This is awesome im surprised that the WWe hasnt had another wrestler with split personalities. Like one time a face then later a heel. And back and forth

  • they have a sport called kill the guy with the ball!!! how scary

  • @realtalkscrewed08

kill the carrier. a football game

  • classic this is one of the promo that made Mick Foley my 3rd favorite wrestler

  • dope

  • Ironically this wasn't even design to turn Mankind and or Mick Foley into a WWE superstar or even a babyface. I recall this was just something to fill time on RAW. But as luck would have it Vince became a real fan of Mick Foley and of the Mankind gimmick and after this interview Dude Love would make his WWE debut and then Cactus Jack would make his WWE debut. Like they say in pro wrestling "A lot of the times the best things that happen in wrestling aren't planned."

  • this is my favorite interview in wwf/e history

  • Mick Foley would be good at playing a serial killer.

  • @gunnare123 he used to wrestle under the name "cactus" jack manson, due to his resemblance to a young charlie manson.

  • this promo gives me a massive errection. its just so good.

  • I like this Mankind-charakter more than the one he was at the "Rock and Sock Conection" era for example .. when he was playing this "freaky" Mankind, he was kind of scary i think

  • "I'M A GOOD KISSER!"

    Why do I believe that?

  • I still remember when this aired on Raw clear as day. I think it's one of the best interview segments ever in wrestling history.

  • jesus christ i miss this.

  • Abyss isint a mankind wannabe in the slightest, god the wrestling fans today are sooo fickle, infintile & just plain fucking naive. or whatever. Foley will go down as one of the greatest hardcore wrestlers of all time. This is how you shine a light on a talent that fans are familiar with but don't know the whole backstory about him(set aside the smart marks & diehard fans for a second).

The difference is that Mick Foley is a rare specimen when it comes to creating characters & pushing them.

  • @vargasisking its actually not an interview its just acting dude jeesh u are an ass GIVE FOLEY A CHANCE!!! HES A GOOD KISSER!!!!

  • @TheJetsFan4Eva oh really? you saying that is like saying "its not wrestling its just acting" its fake wrestling and this is a fake interview. stupid nonetheless

  • @vargasisking im not saying its fake wrestling its not fake wrestling its choreographed you try getting bags of thumbtacks dumped on you or getting punched in the face 52 weeks in a row. but this is acting ur really that retarded to not get what im saying?!?!

  • @TheJetsFan4Eva i understand what your staying but yeah this is acting but its fucking incredible acting and pro wrestling is a sport but you gotta realise to appreciate it and its also entertainment and its people like mick who has busted his body for entertainment and does this all for the fans

  • abyss is a mankind wanna be!

  • that game's called smear the queer. :0

  • this is the time that made foley, i still remember watching this thinking "well at least im not alone" god bless you cactus jack.

  • what a great acter

  • WOW best interview of all time!

  • God, this was SO powerful when it first aired. Still gives me chills.

  • FOLEY IS GOD

  • AND I SUCKED IT DOWN!!!! hahahaha

  • Foley is God!

  • change your life man its never too late

  • Shirt ruins it.

  • so mankind was like a twisted person? but why did he get rid of the mankind gimmick

  • @wordlife6660 cause WWE owns it and Dude Love while Mick Foley himself owns Cactus Jack

  • @thepeterlong

The other thing you have to remember is that The Monday Night Wars were going on around during that time. WWE (or WWF back then) had to win over viewers since they were in competition with WCW.

  • Foley is the only guy who can pull off the "multiple personality" gimmick. Loved his character development in 1997-onwards. Turned him from a good heel into a superstar.

  • @skk1200 i think in some ways he has a multiple personality

  • This is how you're supposed to break the fourth wall in wrestling. Notice, this is a shoot work. Foley's still playing Mankind even though he's talking about Mick Foley. Russo ruined the whole shoot work thing by having the talent literally beat it in your face "WOW THIS IS A SHOOT YEAHH THIS IS [insert wrestlers real name] AND THIS IS A SHOOT, I'M SHOOTING NOW and if you forgot THIS IS A SHOOT!!"

  • @bigpoopie69 no beecuase he edmits mankind cactus jack mick foley and dude love are all in the same body.

  • @bigpoopie69 Very true. THIS is how you do a worked shoot I guess you could call it. This actually helped him get over as a face in WWE. When a shoot is done like this, it can produce some great, amazing things. For one, it was an AWESOME interview, & two, it's not often they did stuff like this, so it actually had MERIT and meant something. Hence why it is now a classic and legendary interview. All of the shoots Russo pulled were forgotten about in a day. He's a cancer to wrestling.

  • @Canny911: Russo wrote for the Attitude era, though. The difference between WCW & TNA against the Attitude years is the fact that at least for the Attitude years, someone was managing Russo, thus ensuring that he rarely screwed up (he still did from time to time, such as Mae Young giving birth to a hand, but not as often as he would if he was afforded the creative freedom he has had in WCW & TNA).

  • @bigpoopie69 russo did so much damage he doesn't even know himself

  • classic

  • The best wrestling interview I have seen so far.

  • @downcard11 Neh best interview ever no one can top this hes the best ever shooter on the mic the business will ever see

  • I remember seeing this back in mid '97 on an episode of Raw. I been watching wrestling since 1991 or 1992 sometime during Wrestlemania 7. I saw this interview Mick Foley/Mankind did, I remember I was like crying when I saw this. The WWE doesn't even do things like this anymore...

I'm 24 now, but I saw this when I was 11 or 12. Very sad but sort of disturbing, something WWE doesn't do anymore...

  • sometimes ppl say that wrestling fans get too sucked into a character but dammit when you dont fit in in high school this man...this Mankind...is your role model.

  • LOL

"kill the guy with the ball. Man even be an Olympic game these days"

  • Mick foley was a cute little kid!

  • foley gives the best promos in the buisness

    the best mic skills ever

  • Man, Foley was great.

  • Along with the Cactus Jack "Anti-Hardcore" promo's he did in ECW. These are nearly the greatest interviews in Pro Wrestling history IMO.

    Foley is Good!

  • perhaps the best interview in wwf/e history.

  • He is one hell of an actor. Then again he does this so great it's hard to tell if it's not true.

  • i love mandkind. he is my fave mick foley creation. he is an absolute legend.

  • With that mask,Mick Foley aka Mankind looks uglier, sadder, and more intimidating! But anyways, this guy is a LEGEND! IDK why Mr.McMahon fired this dude!

  • I think he left not fired or his contract ran out

  • jesucristo bendito!

    mick foley is god!

  • what's the name of the song in the end of this video with the piano?

  • Can't wait until he goes to the Hall of Fame; well over due.

  • "what was i to do, practise on myself?!"

  • Why did Mick Foley turn into Mankind? And is it really true he lost half of his ear!?My "I don't know what"told me he's in TNA right now.

  • It was an idea between Mick Foley and Vince McMahon for his debut character. And yes, he lost a chunk of his ear in a match with Vader. Read his auto-biography, "Have a Nice Day". It's great.

  • its not great its awesome

  • Copy rights to Cactus Jack was still under WCW, and they needed to develop some character for the WWE back turn; I'm they brought in Mankind. I love these interviews. Hall of Fame bound.

  • Yeah. The nurse asked him if wrestling was fake and threw his ear in the garbage! that bitch. He got it tangled on the ropes. Someone complained that the ropes in the ring were too loose, so before mick match they made it tighter. Mick foley didn't know this and got his head tangled between the ropes. he had to struggle and wiggle to get out. The tape is not as graphic, but that's how it occured. Its on wrestlinggonewrong(dot) com under wcw i believe.

  • Ouch!!!So,that's how Mick lost his ear...And yes,the nurse is a bitch.Hey,is it true Mankind is in TNA now?I can't watch it since I don't have that channel. That's why my relative told me.

  • Yeah, I think he has some stock invested in TNA. He praised TNA and talked down the wwe just like angle did. So, he's probably not coming back lol.

just youtube "tna mick foley" or look at his wiki page.

  • @floeticdeath Have you read his book? Very powerful stuff in there and alot of history. I met him back in 2001 and he's such a great guy it's unbelievable.

  • lmao kill the guy with the ball

  • this character is a LEGEND

  • This segment was classic. When WWE set-up faces and reels right.

  • i was a wrestling fan since i was 5, back in 1990-91...but this made me a real wrestling fan. when i saw someone that wasnt a "good guy" or a "badguy" but someone who was hurt, ost, and as some would say, strange. someone i could relate to

  • lost, not ost. sorry bad keyboard

  • yes

  • Lies.

  • what?

  • yes he is mankind

  • No, he's Santa OF COURSE HE'S MICK FOLEY!

  • yes, for sometime now

  • god this is still freaky years later...first watched this when i was in elementary school and now i'm 22. damn.

  • Funny, it's almost the opposite for me. I got into wrestling in late-1995, but stopped watching it, for the most part, after April 1, 1996, when Mick debuted as Mankind, because at seven years old, I was scared to death of him. This interview was what sort of got me over that fear... though, of course, the end of the last part of the interview took away some of the progress made...

  • lol Idk how you could be scared. lol mick foley was always funny to me.

"Do you think I got get a date after that?

    JR: probably not"

    LMAO

  • mankind is mick foley???please reply....

  • yeah of course

  • its just that they look so different....... when he wears the mask(not exacly)........but its that they act so different when hes not wearing and when he is wearing the mask.......

  • Foley is just a great actor

  • yes

  • duh

  • Mankind: Do you think I got that much dates after that?

    JR: Well probably not.

    lmfao

  • LMAOOOO Probably not.....I'M A GOOD KISSER!! God Foley we will miss these type of promos.

  • This promo is so funny. Just great!

  • its really cool that it was this interview that really put him over with the fans and everyone said that was never there intention.

  • It was also around when the Cactus Jack stories started to make the rounds and everyone was like, "Oh yeah, he was awesome." So the two aspects pushed him into greatness

  • DEAD @ 1.37

  • lmao "kill the guy with the ball"

  • best heel gimmick

  • If they found the right character, something like this would work well today.

  • agreed abyss almost is, but its like tna are trying 2 market him too hard as mankind it doesnt work

  • Mick Foley needs to get his ass out of TNA and into the WWE Hall of Fame

  • damn straight

  • @JohnyH h is coming back as gm of raw

  • @wwebreakingpoint210 I realy highly doubt that.

  • this breaks my heart mick foly we love you your a living awesome legend

  • its keyfabe dont worry

  • jimmy

  • This Mankind rules. From the boiler room! Way before socko. Socko Mankind sucks!

  • where can i get that arrangement of his theme is the backround?

  • This is gold.

  • Mick Rulez! Foley's the best actor ever!

  • do you think anyone wanted to go on a date with me?

    JR: Probably not.

    LOL

  • These interviews were brilliantly done

  • yessir

  • Awfully nice of JR to put the Mandible Claw attack aside to work with him on SD
