  • sucks

  • Fair fucking play.

    Thats quality right there

  • Great!

  • great job man!

  • amazing cover!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • nice crisp and clean chorus! way to make it your own, most will go for the scream like glen but trying out your own chorus was very successful

  • nice man! i love that song, i learned it a while ago and did a version of it. i think it was one of my favorites to sing.

  • good job...!!! everything great!

  • Chills dude.. it takes a lot of balls to belt out a tune like that.

  • It is a hard song to sing haha I wanna figure out another tuning, any ideas?

  • lovely.. Im cheating also.... tis f....g hard to get the right notes in original tuning

  • Good job, DP!

  • mic come down

i thought that you need that^^

    and perfect!!^^

  • You did it right ;)

  • is it the same tuning Glen uses? Thanks!

  • really good playing, im a fan! Between 0:22 and 0:36 were you just "fiddling" or was that from a song? its bugging me!

  • TUTORIAL, PLEASEEEE ! :D

  • that was a beautiful cover. thanks for sharing man

  • It sounds like if David Gray covered the song. I think that's his name, the guy that did Babylon.

  • Amazing best cover iv heard yet! Nice job:)

  • Ya know, you wait for that chorus, and then....BAM! nailed it. great range. a lil more confidence maybe, but it's in there! awesome.

  • Hey man!! Very nice!!

I'm from Brazil and I like Glen Hansard so much. Your performance was perfect!!

    Congratulations!! Be always this way...

  • WOW ! Did you learn to play it by ear or how ? Would you tell us ? Would it be too much if I asked for a tutorial ? I think many of us would enjoy it so much :)

    You are awesome !

  • Good Job!

  • f.....good cover .thnks

  • not everyone can yell like glen does and still sound good. awesome cover.

  • It's well performed technically but you can tell he's got no real connection with the material, there's a lack of conviction that can only be portrayed when you have internalized the material, Good performance though keep at it.

  • i head that "that's what she said"

  • :) loved it. i really want to cover Say it to me now, but have a hard time playing all the fancy stuff... :-/ Now their song Leave, I think would better suite my voice, but you did awesome!

  • Respect!

That is a HARD song to cover!

  • gay

  • wow, nice cover!

  • pretty good. keep it up

  • awesome :)

  • ***** 5 stars man!!! AWESOME!!!!!!

  • i love this so much better than the way I play this song. Way to go. Man, Awesome.

  • impressive stuff man. Love how people hav the guts to sing these songs that makes even artists like Glen hanserd vunerable especially with the amount of passion thats needed to sing this song. keep it up.

  • This is amazing, best cover ive ever seen of this song. even though your playing it your own way. Its awesome, waita play from your heart.

  • your playing the verse progressions all wrong man!

  • "There are no wrong notes when you sing (play) from the heart." Glen Hansard.

  • touche! :) still sounds awesome!

  • Really nice Loren! I like your style, a lot.

  • Nice cover man... I hat fukin playing in coffee houses man..damn barristas? and random people always making noise in the background spoiling my mojo while I play!

  • damn that was awesome... i wish i could scream like that

  • Comment removed

  • I think its in Drop D.

  • Hansard version is in open E

  • That's right, sorry. I play it in open D tuning.

  • great cover man. love glen h

  • needs moar cowbell.. and angst..

  • nice man!

  • nice. i've been searching for covers where people actually scream in the latter part of the song. thats the point, thats where all the emotion in the song is. nicely done.

    guitar was nice too.

  • Check out my cover of the song, i definitely scream towards the end, i'll let you be the judge if it sounds any good though haha

  • Nicely done indeed!

And on a Seagull no less...

  • in most cases its damn near impossible to be as good as the original... but this attempt was far from sucking. you need to keep your negativity to yourself.... or else sing/post a better version

  • killer dude. that's a hard cover.

  • Awesome! Great job in the chorus!

  • bravo, you really nailed that chorus! respect bro! i just wish i had that kind of range

  • thanks a lot, i actually have to cheat it down a step cuz i have trouble hitting those notes... glad you like it!

  • haha, i shouldve thought about doing that, makes sense! thanks!

  • Lovin' the performance

it's different because it's still loud and full of emotion but it doesn't have that gritty sound as though you're stressing too much

i know that when Glen does that it still sounds amazing but it's not good for the vocal chords i can tell ya that much xD

  • thanks for the comment, glad you like it!

  • awesome performance :) great singing!

  • thanks so much! really glad you like it :)

    -loren

  • Great job. It's hard to scream your guts out and still sound good, but you did it perfectly.

  • haha, thanks a lot! it took some practice. i think i overdo it just a bit :\

  • Maybe it is overdone, but it sounds great!

  • nice job such a powerful song you did it justice

  • it really is... thanks for the comment :)

    -loren

  • that was very well done. I'm usually very critical of covers for this song because the original is so great, but that was very good.

P.S. that is what she said lol

  • thanks a lot, i'm glad you think it came out alright.

check out my website if you get a chance, eachpassingday(dot)com

    thanks again,

    -loren

  • you remind me of kevin devine

  • you know i've heard that before, and i really like him so i take it as a compliment :) thanks for the comment!

    -loren

  • hey!Good job!!i'm your fans now!!!

  • thanks a lot! glad you like it :)

    -loren

  • hilarious

  • really?

  • Hey man, really really great stuff you're putting up, please please please keep adding to it. =]

And if you ever get the time I'd really appreciate a tab or just the chords you use for this one. I'm too scared of breaking strings with Glen's open E tuning...

    Cheers.

  • oh yeah, i cheat it with a much simpler drop D... i can't reliably hit those high notes in E, and i don't wanna have to re-tune the whole guitar to play it. so i just tune the low E down to a D and transpose the whole song down a step. hope that helps!

    -loren

  • noticed that- good improve, still sounded great though!

I mean this as no offense however, but i am pretty sure we can both agree that no one can sing this like Glen can.....

    Great job though.

  • oh yeah he's great, thanks for the comment!

    -loren

  • oh man, I remember trying this song in open E tuning. I hadn't replaced my strings in a while, and when I got to the chorus and I hit that e string hard there was a few stinging seconds and a nice little welt on my hand. :P

  • So my last account was "btmzx", and when I changed channels, I remembered that I had resubscribed to yours. So I came back and had to listen to this. I love it, man. You never cease to amaze me.

Good stuff, man. Keep it up.

    -btyler

  • well thanks for comin' back! glad you still like it :)

  • your covers are amazing!...great job man ciao

  • thanks a lot mate, really glad you like it

    -loren

  • omgsh i love this song. that was really good. ive been thinking about playing guitar. is it hard? i heard it hard but really fun to learn.

  • ha, well i've been playing for twelve years. it only took about six months before i could actually play a song and sound like i'd hoped it would though. start as soon as you can and be diligent, practice for at least an hour a day for the first year or so.

    -loren

  • alright thanks so much for the info!

  • very nice man. nice range. :)

  • thanks a lot. i do have to transpose the song down a step to be able to hit those high notes. glad you like it.

    -loren

  • haha i always find myself having to do that as well. i have a somewhat low voice. keep it up. i wanna see more videos :D

  • brillant...once again^^ once is a such great movie!i love it! congratulation ;)

  • thanks much. it really is a great movie, i fall asleep to it often.

    -loren

  • what tuning are you using? and the chords. where you get 'em. ?

  • Drop D is the tuning, same as standard but the low E is dropped down a step to D. for the chords, I figured out the song by ear and then wrote my own arrangement of it in drop D, since Glen plays it in a non-traditional tuning. thanks for the comment

    -loren

  • you are amazing

how long have you been learning guitar?

  • thanks mate. i've been playing since i was 12, and every day's a learning experience, so i guess that means that i've been learning for 11 years now.

    thanks for the comment.

    -loren

  • i just saw the movie yesterday and this song was one of my favorites. you really do do it justice (granted you put your own spin on it) - more so than any of the other covers i've seen.

    basically, i think you're wonderful. =]

  • thanks so much, i'm really glad you like it! that movie and all the songs really are incredible. thanks for the comment!

    -loren

  • That's What she said

  • haha, you caught that? dang, i really thought it was quieter. you're only the second to notice it though! thanks for the comment :)

    -loren

  • wow! this is one of the ebst covers i've heard so far on youtube! Beautifully powerful song, and you really do it justice! nice job(:

  • thanks a lot! i'm really glad you like it, and thanks so much for taking the time to comment too :)

    -loren

  • Hey, man! This is really good.

The song is beatifull and much better with just voice and the guitar.

    Cheers, mate.

    Gil

  • wow, thanks a ton for the comment! i'm really glad you like it :)

    -loren

  • great job mate really enjoyed it

  • hey thanks :) i really appreciate you takin' the time to comment!

    -loren

  • That was great. How do you play it? All the tabs I have found tell you to put your fingers on the 12th, 11th and 9th frets, but I noticed that your fingers are more on the first 5 frets.

  • hey, thanks for noticing! haha, this is actually a differnet arrangement i wrote, it's all standard except with the first string dropped down to D. i believe he plays it in E and i can' reliably hit those high notes in E so...had to change it up! haha.

thanks for commenting, i'm glad you like it!

    -loren

  • I have a godin seagull too! I love them, they make great guitars

  • they really do, thanks a lot for the comment!

    -loren

  • Wow, this is incredible! So powerful, it nearly put me to tears. 5 stars.

  • thanks so much! of course i can't take credit for the beautiful songwriting, but i'm glad you like my cover :) thanks for commenting!

    -loren

  • Awesome cover! Keep it up!

  • thanks a lot! glad you like it, i plan to :)

    -loren

  • great cover except for the little falter in the lyrics towards the end.

great looking and sounding guitar as well.

  • thanks a lot for the comment :) do i really mess up the lyrics at the end? dang it, i'll have to listen again, i don't remember that!

i'm glad you like it, thanks!

    -loren

  • Hey, is that a godin seagull guitar? the head looks just like it. :)

  • it most certainly is, good eye! it's a great guitar :)

    -loren

  • Holy shit!

    You are so great.

I was waiting to see if you'd do the powerful ending. I didn't think you would.

    But you did.

    It was truly amazing.<3

  • hey, thanks so much! i'm really glad you like it :) i've seen some people do it without the ending and it just doesn't work, that's what makes the song...though it is hard to pull off the energy in it...i don't feel that i get it quite right.

thanks a lot for the comment! i hope you like some of my originals too :)

    -loren

  • yea i agree with the person below me i love this song sooo much im gonna do a cover of it and i hope my guitar is as good as urs and like the chorus was really good

it takes alot too look at that and be like oh well i dont have to yell i could just sing it in a higher note for the chorus like what u did took balls

  • thanks. just, that's all i can say, thank a lot for the great comment, that's really awesome to hear :)

    you rock!

    -loren

  • I am SO glad that you gave this justice by doing the screaming part. I mean... that was simply amazing. I could very well subscribe because of this. Great.

  • well thanks a lot! i'm really glad you like it, it's one of my favorite songs, and not just from the movie. i hope you do subscribe! and if you get a chance, check out some of the original songs up in my profile too :)

    thanks again!

    -loren

    thanks again :)

    -loren

  • what chords do you use?

  • it's a little bit complicated, but i'll try and write em out for you in a message :)

    thanks for the comment!

  • "That's what she said." Haha, smooth.

  • Haha, oh man, no one was supposed to notice that. You've got good ears. Sorry, it's just kind of an ongoing joke with my friends 'cuz we watch the Office a lot...and the boss is always makin' those jokes. Thanks for the comment :)

    -loren

  • Same with my friends and I. I'm always thinking, "That's what she said." Also from the Office. By the way, I like your cover.

  • Haha, well good. I'm glad I didn't offend anyone, and thanks, I'm glad you like it!

  • great cover. as a matter of fact seems to be original.

  • sorry, not sure what you mean, it's not an original song, but it is kinda my own version of it :) thanks so much for the comment, i'm glad you like it!

    -loren

  • Wow. I didn't think anyone would be able to cover this. Great job.

  • thanks a lot for the comment :) i can't do it quite as good as the original of course, but i do like this song quite a bit :) i'm glad you like my cover, thanks!

    -loren

  • hey! is that a seagull? i just bought a seagull today! its a reallllly good guitar!

  • yes indeed it is, it's my first and only guitar, i've had it over a decade now and it's never done me wrong :) seagull is a great brand, congrats on your! thanks a lot for the comment too :)

    -loren

  • good cover man. I like it in drop D

  • thanks a lot :) i really really like his way in open 'E' tuning, it's just a little too high for me to do live. thanks for the comment!

    -loren

  • good job

  • thanks! it's a tough one to do justice too, glad you like it, thanks for the comment :)

    -loren

  • thanks! it's a tough one to do justice to, i'm glad you like it. thanks for the comment :)

    -loren

  • Nicely done man.

  • thanks again! thanks for watching my videos, i'm really glad you like my covers :)

    -loren

  • i know the original is in open E tuning but what are you playing it in?

  • E is a little high for me so i sing this one in drop d. the tuning's standard except for the bottom string getting dropped to a d instead of a low e. thanks for the comment :)
