  • Now, That is how you advertize. Show this on national tv during prime time.

  • Man I would LOVE to have been in that ride!

  • Badass car. Not only is it pretty fast, they just set another Guinness World Record for MPG in it.

67.9 MPG. The Taylors. You can look it up.

I wanna see a hybrid top that.

  • I don't have to look it up, because I get that went I use my wife's Prius to go to work. It's fun to see how high I can the mpgs for that 32 miles tip. Best I can do is 67.7, 66.9 and 66.5. I try for 70mpg but always fall short. Oh well, maybe next I take her car I will get 70mpg. The best I have done in my car is 30.3 mpg. That's pretty good considering it has a 3.5 liter V-6. Diesel engines are cool, I just don't see why diesel people feel that they have to hate everything else.

  • So what?

No one's arguing that the Prius doesn't get great mileage. Of course it does, especially in cities. But the Taylors have the world record for MPG the U.S. in a TDI, not a hybrid -- and not driving 32 miles -- driving like 10,000 miles around the whole country, through traffic, bad weather, etc.

Till a hybrid beats their record there isn't really much else to say. Anecdotal stories don't carry much weight compared to a certified record.

  • So what... Don't get all upset that every time I take my wife's Prius to work I get just under 70 mpg. I don't drive her car much any more, but when I do, I check to see what I get. It's pretty impressive that I can get that every time. Before I reset her mpg counter to see what I could get going to work, she had racked up 5,700 miles and got 54 mpg. She doesn't even try. She could careless about mpg, and to tell you the truth neither do I. That's the whole point of owning one of theses cars

  • yea its a very good company hahaha i drive a jetta lol but and ways porsche WAS going to buy VW but they lost a shit load of money b/c of the economy so they are not buying it any time soon lol

  • Actually now the two companies are going to formally merge under the leadership of Volkswagen AG. It's on wiki.

  • kissmyaudi, i agree audi is a very good brand but in case you didnt know VW owns audi thats the relationship

  • Yep, and somehow Porsche managed to buy VW. Crazy... I was making a point by association of VW being a good company.

  • Hey Volkswagen how about making some all-wheel-drive versions of your TDI's. That's what the people want.

  • Nice slide Hurley

  • It almost gets as good as my 1995 Toyota's 45mpg on the highway.

  • what kind of 95 Toyota do you own?

  • You're sure on your knees for Toyota a lot for being a VW employee.

  • what an act, this guy wouldn't last 5 seconds in my 55 Chev.

  • will your 55 Chev even go around a corner? lol

  • lol, what a stupid question....

  • lol on u buddyrue. I've owned numerous American classics and loved them all. My fav, '69 Mustang fastback (351C, very built up). They all go hella fast in a straight line but they don't corner for sh*t.

Let me paint you a scenario. We go up in the canyons, you in your beloved 55chev and me in my car. 15 minutes later fire crews are spraying the wreckage of your Chev off and I'm shaking my head, all busted up inside that there won't be any more witty posts from fast55chev. C'est dommage.

  • now a stupid comment.

Just because you can't drive doesn't mean the rest of us can't either.

  • Look caveman, no one said you couldn't drive. But if you're driving some antique you're not gonna be tearing it up on the track or the canyon, no matter how good you are. (At least that antique).

Actually I think you're right, that dude wouldn't last 5 minutes with you, cause the second you hit the gas he's just counting down the seconds till the ambulance gets there with the jaws of life to save his ass.

  • Keep talking...the more you talk the harder you make me laugh at you.

I'm actually starting to think the guy tossing is you. Why else would you be defending him.

  • blahbaddy blah blah blah... I'm not defending myself -- I mean Eddie. I'm just pointing out that you're a d-bag.

  • you should take a look at his video, if this guy (who you really do make it out to sound like thats you) can't handle a few corners in this car he wouldn't beable to take the force this car would put on him/you.

  • I wasn't in the video, but I sure wish I could do a 50 mph e-brake power slide like that without wadding my car into a ditch.

  • Stock form diesels are slow...thats no myth

  • The evidence clearly shows you're wrong. 09 Le Mans winner -- Peugeot diesel. Audi diesels dominated Le Mans and ALMS for years. STOCK Audi diesel cars in Europe, fast as hell and coming to U.S. soon. Diesel trucks in U.S., a lot are very fast. You're stuck in the past.

  • I'm not stuck in the past...I just know that diesels aren't where the future is. STOCK diesels in europe aren't 'fast as hell' they are just faster then they use to be....as with everything there is always improvement. However, I'm not a fan of german cars and would never buy one.

Just curious though, what audi do you drive?

  • Audi S4. Yep, total gas guzzler. But I hardly ever drive. When the S4 TDI comes out I'm getting it. And it will be fast as hell, and 30 mpg +.

And none of these cars is where "the future is." The future will be in something stable and available -- non fossil fuel -- but it won't be pure electric because electric comes from coal in the U.S. and coal isn't clean.

btw, I've driven diesels in europe and they are much much faster than in the US.

  • but there are fast cars now that get 30mpg anyways.

They are the future, why do you think everyone is trying to build a hybrid now?

Even vvw is working on a diesel hybrid...and THAT is something I would love to see.

80mpg out of a diesel hybrid, who wouldn't like that?

  • I disagree (surprise) -- there aren't any truly fast cars that get 30+ mpg. I consider fast to be RS4/M3 and up. And none of those cars are remotely near 30 mpg. 20 mpg if they're lucky.

Also, the reason the diesel hybrid's are taking so long is because of the cost -- both systems come at a price premium, add them together and you have a very expensive car. A diesel hybrid jetta would prob be 10k more than the normal car -- no one will buy it except rich environmentalists.

  • your wrong we have a 1990 volvo wagon it gets at least 30 mpg and its super fast

  • Haha you'd never buy a german car... Probably because you can't afford one. Stick to your rice burners.

  • this coming from a 16 y/o lol

I'd never buy one because they are garbage

  • Haha that's hilarious. I'd really like for you to elaborate, because I could've sworn you drove a Mitsubishi and a Toyota? Last I checked Mitsubishi was a TV company...

  • Lets see, cars parked in the lot catching on fire, terrible electrical problems..even the 09 jetta is showing signs.

terrible transmissions, again the 09 dsg are having trouble.

I can go on, but most people get the point...I'm sure you'll have something to defend them.

  • There was a defect in 2003 where some cars were affected and a few caught on fire. Big deal. Last I checked this wasn't 2003.

What problems are on the 09 Jetta? That's what I thought.

Terrible transmissions? Last I checked the Prius didn't come in stick. That's enough reason to buy the Jetta over the Prius. On top of that, DSG is the quickest DC transmission, I have a few cars with them and have seen no problems.

Toyotas have problems of their own too.

  • I think you need to stop pulling random shit out of your ass. Every car breaks down. A car will work the way it's supposed to if it's serviced and taken care of correctly. Get real

  • lol, big deal...a few cars caught on fire, thats funny!

There were problems before that and after. Take a look around on google, or even on the tdi forums, you'll see what problems there are.

So, you are saying you'd buy a car based only on the fact that it would come with a standard? LOL YOU need to get real.

I think you drive a kia.

  • I'm sure that a few Toyotas have caught on fire too.

There are problems on Toyotas too.

    Every car has its problems.

    You're fucking stupid.

The Prius has the biggest problem of all cars.

And yes, that's why I'd drive a Miata over a Nissan GT-R any day. I'd rather have a REAL sports car with a REAL transmission.

And no, I'd never drive Jap CRAP

  • LOL, you are just too funny.

The Prius is always in the top 5 when it comes to reliability. It is a proven vehicle.

I'm supid...this coming from a kid who just makes shit up.

Only thing I can find on Toyota's catching fire is when they've been modified.

    Keep typing, you're good entertainment.

  • Like I said, every car is reliable if maintained and serviced correctly. I've never had any of my VWs or Audis fail me. Only cars that have ever failed me EVER have all been GM cars.

Nothing I'm saying is made up either. You're the one saying Priuses are "always in the top 5 when it comes to reliability"

    Really? According to who? You?

Last I checked the diesel engine in the VW can last a million miles. How long does your battery last again?

  • Actually, the battery has been known to last that in lots of Prius'. So again, you stand corrected.

According to any review you will read you can clearly see that the Prius is within the top 5.

So, no, not according to me, according to real world statistics.

So tell me, at 16 how many cars have you actually owned?

Or have they all been daddies

  • You're right. My 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee hasn't ever had an engine problem with 800,000 miles, so I suppose every Dodge, Jeep or Chrysler is reliable?

    Wrong.

I just looked at at least 10 different lists of top 100 most reliable cars. Didn't see a Prius anywhere.

I currently have three cars and have owned a few others. Not my fathers either. Keep assuming though.

  • Funny, cuz I did a quick search and found TONS of articles showing it within the top 5. One even shows the Prius at #1 and Civic Hybrid at #2.

So, I guess you are blind...or all that stuff in your "newer setup" can't do a proper search.

So, tell me, what cars do you currently own.

  • Haha okay, then link me to those sites.

    I have a 1988 E30 BMW 325 as a track car, a 2004 Mk4 VW .:R32 as a daily driver, and a 2000 Toyota Tacoma with a 5 speed manual for work.

  • 99gsx, I've owned 4 Audis now and all have had great reliability. Just as important, the fit and finish and build quality is superb. By modern standards of measuring reliability, cars ranked by these organisations usually have 1-2 or less minor problems separating them......many people vastly misinterpret this data.

I would NEVER own a Prius. Cheap materials, completely boring performance and handling and jellybean design. Its not a car, its a refrigerator on wheels.

  • "I've owned 4 Audis now"

    I feel sorry for you.

I've owned 2...my first and my last. Nothing but a nightmare...cheap interior, noisey and NOT fun to drive.

I would NEVER own another german car (owned a bmw and a Merc.)

My Toyota has done nothing but been a cheap to drive, don't mind being stuck in traffic car.

When you sit in traffic with your audi's engine running....how fun of a car is it to you then.

A fridge on wheels? Better then a egg on wheels.

  • AUDI'S have a cheap interior? Uh, no...

I've owned multiple Toyotas and am a fan (just not of the Prius), but one thing is for sure, the interiors of Toy's are nothing to brag about, and a little weird/gaudy.

Audi's interiors are gorgeous, high-quality, and like their exteriors, set the bar for design. I own an Audi now and love it. And it has been very reliable.

This VW TDI is a cool car. My only objection would be I don't like front wheel drive. VW please add 4Motion to your TDI lineup.

  • Toyota's are plane inside and out. That's why they make Lexus. Just like Honda's are plane so that's why they have Acura.

  • Audi = best car company in the world. Some relation to VW I believe...

  • LoL oWned.

  • VW could release an even faster TDI but they won't because they don't want to compete against Audi, which they own. The new Audi TDI's are going to be very fast.

  • You are going to compare Toyota to Audi?

I think you need to compare Audi to Lexus. Both are very refined vehicles, but you can't compare Lexus to vw nor the reverse.

  • He asked me what kind of car I drive.

But Audi TDI is the same as VW TDI.

  • I thought he was holding the panic handle in his hand when he got out!

  • Josh is a prick.

  • Oh boo who

  • Omgosh....The Tire pressure light was on..in the tdi..when they first show the cluster.

  • I LOVE my TDI!!!

I'm a VW owner for life now--as long as they don't get stupid like US automakers that is...

  • love that power slide
