There are many beautiful flute pieces on the 'tube, but this is my favourite - Shankar must have something to do with it. ;~) It resonates something that is hard to put into words, certainly beauty, and putting one's mind at ease, but also longing or yearning, and some kind of awakening. It has India written all over it. And it is still waaaay too short.
Morning people are lucky people. I rarely see the sunrise, because I am not, but sometimes when I cannot sleep and get up very early and witness the sunrise, I always think I'm going to get up early more often! Of course this never works. Seeing and hearing this clip I can pretend though :). Ravi and the sitar, is there any other entity that touches the heartstrings like that?!
@NovaScotiaChick Ha---I can so relate to what you're saying! ;-) Ahhh..........but at least we have this, the music of the soul with a beautiful sunrise to go with it! :-) Namaste.
@stocki94 Looking at the speed of the smoke, it may be actual speed? In some parts of the world, the sun rises or sets much faster than in others. In Cape Town, South Africa, for instance, you can literally see the sun sink in the ocean within minutes, whereas to see the sun sink in the North Sea bordering Holland, it takes much much longer. That's my take on the matter. :)
@pearl1729 I think this the version of Morning Raga from the Sitar for Concertos and it's actually 12 minutes long. This is just an extract. It's an amaaazing song. Here's a link to the album:
@Rexicano You are right about the flute playing by Mr. Rampal; it is very difficult for so-called classical music artists to be able to play in improvised settings, wherein the music is not already written down. They feel very stifled; and out of their own set box. Rampal tone still beautiful, be he seems hesitant and tentative in his playing here.
We most often forget the MAGIC of the beginnings of every day .. it is my favorite time, not that I'm awake ALL the time at Dawn! This vid is a most pleasant reminder of that magic & absolutelt the best match in music! Been listening to Ravi since the early '70's & it's still timeless! TY for the vid & music! :)
wonderful music based on the raga sindhi bhairavi and the video of a glorious morning................................... the feeling i have after listening to this is like ...." A feeling of sadness and longing that is not akin to pain and resembles sorrow only as the mist resembles the rain" ....
I might be mistaken but I have listened to this 100 times. The tonic is E. Noting that, then there is no komal re. There is komal ni komal ga and komal da. This now becomes a raag in the asavari that.Someone please tell me if they agree. It is beautiful no matter what.
a mix raag called nat bhairavi sounds like this becuase if u analyse..bhairavi ang is very clear by "swar lagaav"..see how Rishab is used..alpatava lagaav(brief usage)...it is closer to sindhu bhairavi swara lagaav in which rishab is invariably shudh or pure
it says: nat bhairav, but not possible cause it has: komal re. :) if i find, i will tell u. thanks for the upload, it is beautiful. what do u do in romania? i am in paris, not so far. :)
That was just the opening. I've got the whole thing somehhere in this junk yard of a house . I will share it with you and every body else when I find it. Itis called 'MORNING LOVE'
Yes, yes, I used to have this song..could never forget the opening notes to a great piece of music. I was looking for a part 2 immediately when I realized this posted video was a little shy of five minutes. Great song, thanks for the post.
How much would I like to hear Ravi Shankar and Jean-Pierre Rampal live! In a couple of days I'm in India for a week and have looked if there's a concert of Shankar in New Delhi. But he will be touring with his daughter Anoushka (wonderful musician as well and a breathtaking beautiful woman!) in the United States then.
Dear friend thank you for putting the video but you left the part mas important! Of this lejendaria act!!!!! The real central this mùsica from the minute 5:00 and not to the beginning, Jean Pierre Rampal! He is a legend as the accompanist of the virtuous duo, but it q it(he,she) appears in this video is at all! I sit(feel) you put the least important part I say it to you because I study mùsica and I can stand nonetheless(though) not even worse way am at all... Jaime de Perù.
I was looking for this composition for long time. Used to have it in a cassette long time back. Please please put the entire thing as soon as you can. Thanks in advance.
Now you have - it IS Rampal...look up his bio on wikipedia, it is impressive. The thing about Ravi Shankar one finds curious is his rapport with the best Western musicians, more than with other Indians! That rapport has created beautiful music, of course.
Beautiful music, beautiful sunrise :) I love Shankar's music, and Indian music. In fact, I love all that it means traditionally world music: indian, turkish, arabic, tibetan, chinese and japanese music, old medieval, aboriginal, shamanic :)
But Ravi's music is divine: simply, pure and enchanting.
india is a diverse nation. different places have different lifestyles, customs, and traditions. You are just applying the indian culture model as communicated by western pop-culture to the entire country. please don't do that. india (and similarily pakistan) are more than just what you read in books/mags/news or watch on television. Western media favour the hindi/hindu community in india and gives little recognition to the other dissimilar cultures such as the punjabi and muslim communities.
THIS IS culture Mr. Bush...don't you feel inferior??? go and take care of your cows Mr. Bush and leave the issue of havin culture and being civilized to those who are and having it since thousands of years and not those who just talk about it...talk is cheap, Mr. Bush!! ;-)
Amazing!!! Peaceful! Heart Touching!!

Having Rampal play Indian music with Shankar is like having Mr. Bean in a dramatic movie with Brando.
The flute playing is very weak here.
