@foucault1020 Thanks for sharing our wanton destruction ... mind you it is pretty, innit? Plus the sounds of a full orchestra and choir makes them goosebumps rise!
it cost a fortune and yet the fecking country is in neck high shit. Politicians suuure are EEGITS! But yet... this is spectacular! I bet this was a source of entertainment for the lot of Brits. A bit of time to step out of their worries for a time. This is better than what we have here in the states. The best show i;ve been to was in New Hampshire for July 4rth back in 1999. This tops that hands down. I would have defo loved to be there to witness this. Cheers, Rikky Bro.
Thanks so much for the explanation, Rickyhardo. I was thinking I had a dim recollection of Guy Fawkes Day right after I asked the question. As you know, Guy Fawkes is gaining popularity over here now, symbolically. I think the transition from the original event/character to the current symbol here is murky.
I had no idea that the Eye ferris wheel was equipped to put on a light show. Thanks for alerting me to your newest video, Rikkyhardo. This is the finest fireworks display I've seen, and great vantage points.
@Cyallaire Bonfire Night and Firework Night 5 November 1605, when Guy Fawkes, a member of the Gunpowder Plot, was arrested while guarding explosives the plotters had placed beneath the House of Lords. Celebrating the fact that King James I had survived the attempt on his life, people lit bonfires around London, and months later the introduction of the Observance of 5th November Act enforced an annual public day of thanksgiving for the plot's failure.
@Cyallaire ... on top of the bonfire. Kids make up guys leading up to November 5th and show them outside shops etc. and beg a penny for the guy to buy fireworks with. I think this has just about died out now. Now they have women (of Eastern origin) begging with their kids in London. It' very big business run by some Eastern Europeans. A penny for the guy wouldn't go so far nowadays ha ha ha.
i quite like the fireworks, and apparently seeing them live is one of the spectacular events of the year. i just couldn't stay there for hours in order to get a good position...
I heard that the same people who do the London New Year fireworks will also be doing the Olympic ones. I just don't understand how they'll ever go one up from this.
Thank you. Good to know government is fiscally responsible-not. What was it said about Nero while Rome burned? Hey- it's no less cost effective than the hugely expensive SCUDS, drones, etc they use. IMO- the above is tacky ,tasteless, & ill timed. But one assumed it got ratings. To each his own.
I shared it 2X's. Shock & awe 4 sure. Thanx. Good to know the Brits get a lotta bang for their taxpayer's bucks.

formaface 3 months ago
@formaface yeh, it seems appalling spending all that money just to burn for 15 minutes when there all the crises hitting us left right and center
