I have the GTX 285 From Zotac using Riva Tuner can speed up your fan really good My stay at around 46 to 50 c at 80% fan speed but it get load and keep my card very cool even I Maxed out my FSX :)

It is if you like to play games you get lots of stuttering or you couild call it lag or frame skipping whatever you want to call it, it will piss you off it makes the games unplayablke sometimes all this from the so called best. This said if you only run vantage and dont play games then quad 295 is awesome, ati 4870x2 also suffers from the samme thing as the 295 quad sli/CF just doesnt work well.

GPU so a 3SLI GTX285 is more efficient than a 2SLI GTX295 cause there are only 3 cores in the 3SLI 285 which IS supported by most games.

I've never overclocked before but I might look into it once I get a GTX285, I have to OC my Q6600 as well. The only problem might come with cooling because there's a lot of dust here and Antec 900 just sucks it all up.

For people that use 3 way sli Attention

1 you need water cooling or Side fans on your case

2 If you have 3 cards on your pc there is no way that the 2 cards under your first card will have enough air in to there fans.

Simply when using 3 way sli there is not a lot of space between the cards so there is no good air flow on the second and third card

hey there. i just bought this card but im a bit of an overclocking noob. i downloaded EVGA's prescision and was wondering what are good rates to set the speeds at. just play around with it and check the temps? thanks

You could try 700 core clock wioth linked shader and the memory should go to at least 1450 but for a start try 1400then work your way up in small increment of maybe 5mhz. if your pc blue screens or freezes then the card isnt stable at those speeds but dont worry it wont damage it you will at least then no what the limits are also a sign of over heating is glitchy textures called artifacts you will know if you see them appear. The heat threshold is 105c but i wouldnt be happy above 85c

Sorry if youm already have the answer to this as its old. Adding 10 mhz to make it 700 is safe it shouldntr impact on the life of the card and even if it does they offer a lifetime warrenty so just rma it> Just wacth the temps and dont let auto fan do the work it doesnt kick intill over 80c just set it to what ever you think is barable noise wise. Plus you have a black editiion xfx's elite chip hand picked, there will be plenty of room to oc

I have all XFX hardware and I switched to EVGA.... the support is amazingly better plus I get lifetime warranty and 90 day trade up which I am using to trade up to the GTX 295 and I didn't lose a cent from what I paid 3 months ago for the gtx 260... XFX do package there stuff so much better than EVGA but like you said XFX is slipping it took them months to complete a 280 rma although i recieved a xxx edition instead of standard. I wont buy XFX again, i tried BFG who also offer 90 day step up but the cards were crap lots of artifacting and glithy textures even at stock and they over clocked shit.

So i have now moved to EVGA so far im happy but they tend to ignore there european customers but if you live in the US, EVGA FTW

a friend recommended doing a stress test on my card it went to 108 degrees celsius did that reduce lifetime or warranty i used a proram called furmark and stress test was xtreme burning test took 300 seconds to reach 108 degrees and then the pc locked im worryed

108c isnt good, the gt200 chips temp threshold is 105c, it is possible you have done permanent damage. Have you experienced any other locks since that 1st time?

The pre release demo runs bad compared to the game patched to 1.21 so that maybe why you are getting the 18fps, and as for overclocking nearly every board out has a setting to overclok for you, some times called dummy oc, using that will help to see if there is any bottleneck but im not sure there would be with the 1 card, its prob the pre demo.

no he wouldn't have permanently damaged it but it is possible, how ever it should not be running that hot. its a 55nm chip, if it were to go over 120 then you can diffidently expect permanent damage. and have you messed around with the "manage 3d settings" ?

I would choose the 285 every time only because of the upgrade potential two 295 isnt a great combo as there is alot of frame skipping and stutter, dont be fooled by the benchmarks that you see, as thats all quad 295 is good for. Vantage is the only test that quad scales well in it does well in crysis too but not when gaming. 1 single 285 ftw wont beat a single 295 but it will be damn close and in games that dont really scale to well with sli or dont use sli at all the 285 will beat it.

Now if you will never be in a situation where you can get a second card then the 295 is a good option, but only then.

I wouldnt buy one 295 with the idea of eventually getting a second one.

If a second card upgrade is on the card then id get the 285 ftw.

The 285ftw is by far the best card ive owned in terms of stability in sli, game performance and overclocking.

I just bought a GTX 285. I think the gtx 280 looks a better with the backplate and all,but when it comes down to it! it's all about FPS that counts.. The GTX 285 is cooler,clocks better,needs less power,and the fan noise is a little bit less than GTX 280. thx posting this video.

Hey when you buy a card you don't look at just one game, you look at the overal performance. The card who performs best in most games is the card you want to have, the most stable overall performance, the 280GTX.

Besides, 4870 = 25FPS

280GTX = 27FPS

It's not win for ATI.

Third: I got my 280GTX for only €319. It's worth it, the card doesn't collapse so much on higher resolutions and AA as the 4870 does.
