There's not much point in slamming someone if you can't land them on their head. Often times you'll expend more energy picking them up than you'll take out of them with the slam unless of course you land them on their head or neck.

What a lot of the armchair warriors here don't seem to understand is how important it can be to have the guy in your own corner. The jump at the end was a little much, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with picking his opponent up, bringing him to his corner and slamming him. In fact I would consider it a pretty smart move.
