Grew up hating the Flyers, but for that one night 25 years ago when I heard about the accident I mourned with the Flyers fans. What a terrible shame to see such a great young athlete of any team die so needlessly. He was a class act and for all hockey fans it is a great loss.
Gew up hating the Flyers, but for that one night 25 years ago when I heard about the accident I mourned with the Flyers fans. What a terrible shame to see such a great young athlete of any team die so needlessly. He was a class act and for all hockey fans it is a great loss.
he is a good reason to be proud of beeing a swede... a friend of mine died in a car crash and he was a goalie, we both loved the way Pelle played and both of us tried to do the same moves as Pelle but we weren't quick enough xD haha memories :)
Exactly. He proved how great he really was without all the big equipment. His skill, quickness and hard work alone allowed him to become the best at his position at that time. Damn, how I wish that terrible accident would have never happened. For Pelle and for all Flyer fans who loved him so much.
Pelle's number Definitely needs to be retired. I know the Flyers & NHL a scared of the anti-Drinking & Driving Critics. But there is a easy way to get around that If the Flyers & The NHL were to use a Public service annoucment as to the effects of Drinking & Driving. Which could be Annouced in the arena & Aired Before & after The retirement ceremony. Would probably appease those critics so they don't cause a fuss
For me I was four year old kid. It hit me hard as a teenager I became a Flyers fan myself. I read all I could from Pelle and I respect him. I miss Pelle still and would have loved to meet him while he was alive. Raise that unofficially retired #31 to rafters Flyers the time is now! 25 years after Pelle died on November 9th this year.
I was a Jr in HS when this tragic event occurred & it hit me like a freight train. Such talent wasted. I was/am a goaltender myself & while he wasn't one of my "idols" I could respect his level of play. It seems like many here are forgetting the main message of his death ... don't drink & drive ... his death was very tragic but even more so when you realize it could have been easily prevented by him not drinking so much. I mean no disrespect with that ... it's just a fact.
I was just a kid when he was killed, but I was a huge Flyers fan. I still have the clippings from the local paper about the crash. As I recall, whomever they brought up to replace him was hit in the cup so hard it broke it during a practice and they needed to bring up another goalie.
I can't believe people watch this video and then comment badly about Pelle.
This video is to honor Pelle as the great goaile and person he was, not to talk about that someone as crazy as Hextall was better.
This guy, this great goalie and this hero ,to so many of us, was better than anyone ever will be, he just didn't have the time to show everyone what could have been.
If anyone disagrees that Pelle was the best, I suggest you leave this site and keep your comments to yourself.
What's the name of this song? I kinda like it, sounds like Ozzy is singing as well...
I remember 1st reading about Pelle Lindbergh's death several years ago, he was on the verge of perhaps becoming one of the elite goaltenders in the NHL until his untimely death.
He was my hero and was the reason I wanted to play goal the rest of my life. Mark Messeir was interviewed several years after his death and said that with him in net the Flyers would have won a cup or two....RIP #31
Pelle would have won cups, cups but unforunately his life was cut short. He also probably would have been one of the greatest goaltenders to ever play the game. rest in peace Pelle
Pelle was a wonderful player and person. He's my idol and he will always be no 1 in my heart. I'm so proud of being born and raised here in Stockholm, just like Pelle. I'm also living on the south side where your team is Bajen, where Pelle began his career. Jag älskar dig Pelle!
Pelle Lindbergh is my idol and he will always be the only idol for me. I play hockey myself and everytime i watch all vids on youtube i get sad but i feel that it goes better when i play on the ice myself. wish i could meet him wen he lived. R.I.P Pelle Lindbergh :(
8 days after my 15th birthday..i knew then it's be a LOOOOOOOOONG time , if ever, I would see the stanley cup come back to philly...we still miss you Pelle
Was an incredible video, it really was. Seems like yesterday when he was starting to come into his own and then in a tragic accident, it's all gone and we're left to wonder what could have been. I don't THINK the Flyers have retired #31 yet, but if they haven't, they should. NO FLYER should ever wear that number ever again! May God rest your soul, Pelle, we'll ALWAYS miss you, but we also know we'll all see you again in heaven, my good friend!
Flyers would have won the Cup in 1986. Edmonton never made the finals that season. That was the Flyers year. Instead Montreal wins it and the legend of Roy begins. Fate has been cruel to Philadelphia.
Gannable, fate HAS been cruel to Philly, it really has. I grew up in north Jersey as a Devils fan, but I grew tired of them and because of my best friend's insistence, I gave up the Devils because I wanted something new and the Flyers gave me that! I know it's been since I was 2 since the Flyers last won it, but I truly believe we're gonna get there and sooner than many think! FLYERS ROCK AND THE PENGUINS, RANGERS AND DEVILS ALL SUCK ASS!
Sometimes it seems as if the Flyers are paying a price for their legacy of the mid-70's. Whether it was Kerr, Pelle or Lindros, there has always seemed to be an underlying tragedy in waiting. When I watch Richards play and imagine what he could become I have the same sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. I'm not a Flyer fan but I love the way that kid plays the game. It would be a shame if that fate, that you mentioned, comes in contact with him. Here's hoping that it doesn't.
Pelle was 1000000000X the goalie Lundshit will ever be. Get the hell out of here with that crap, Henrik is an embarrassment. Where are the Rangers? Last place? Thought so.
I nearly forgot. Very shortly after Pelle died the Flyers played a game at the Garden vs the Rangers. Outside the Garden Ranger fans were wearing jerseys/shirts that had a 31 on the back and "DEAD" where the name plate was. That is REALLY fucked up, this is why the Rangers have always sucked and always will suck cock.
i have heard so much about him and i am so pleased that he is well remembered. he was my father's cousin and i would have loved to be able to remember what he was like. god bless you Pelle, my dad is missing you.x
pelle RIP we miss you in flyers. i hope flyers get a swedish goalie again. soderstrom did good when he was rookie sad to see it didnt last! lets go flyers. nice song and video
I wonder if anyone has the Flyers/Oilers game in which they saluted Pelle right after he passed away. I can't imagine how sad that night was. When I saw the picture of Bobby Clarke crying I couldn't beileve it, Clarke was a tough as nails maniac on that ice and he couldn't compose himself.
Seing this almost made me cry, Pelle was the greatest Swedish goalie ever and perhaps the greatest goalie in the world of all time.
Now also his motherclub is away to die after 8 golds 8 silvers and 8 bronzemedals thru their history in the Swedish leauge, the club is drowning in debts and will probably go out of buisnes very soon.
You will be back friend, your brandb is too strong to die. I would also like to add that before leaving Sweden he played in my club, AIK.
Pelle was something DIF never got a part of! Hammarby Hockey will soon be back and play thrilling derby games against AIK at Johanneshov Stadium where Pelle trained his whole youth!
Hextall would never had played for the Flyers if Pelle had lived... Pelle was that good... anyone who besmirches the player knows nothing about #31, and less about the game of hockey... he was a sure-fire HOFer...
I loved Hextall, but I think Lindbergh was the one who would have had his named etched in the Stanley Cup. Froese did a bad ass job considering the circumstances in 1985-86
it might have been a classic series if lindbergh had lived and played long enough to oppose a young Dominick Hasek in the post season
