  • awesome that you could get them in action! when I went there it was raining so I didn't see them and they were the main reason I went there! thanks so much for posting this it made my day !! :D

  • I'm going there next week! :D

  • wait he said the face look like a panda bear, but it doesnet

  • "they're actually related but alright whatever"

i thought the exact same thing when i heard that guy say that haha

  • I WANT A PET RED PANDA!!!!! D:

  • Do not let his cute demeanor fool you, red pandas are godless killing machines. He may look like he's just playing acrobat on those tree branches, but he's actually sizing up the camera guy and looking for weaknesses. You see, red pandas do not tolerate anyone wishing to capture them on film. If it wasn't for his caged enclosure, he would have bitten several faces off.

    The more you know...

  • I remember going to the National Zoo in 1989 in DC. I look up in a tree and see this adorable face. It was a red panda.

    Red Pandas/Firefoxes...BORN CUTE, STAY CUTE!

  • Red pandas are actually the original panda. They were discovered about 50 years before giant pandas.

  • i dont mean to sound rude but that guy is stupid.

and to other people commenting the raccoon (Procyonidae) is completely different than the panda family(Ursidae) witch bears, pandas, and red pandas belong to.

Red pandas are more closely related to giant pandas

  • "oh my goodness is he balanced precariously"

    hahahahahahahah

    nice vid

  • so cute i am going there with my school it is a field trip, we are going to see all the animals i am going friday going to be soooo much fun

  • racoons, red pandas, and giant pandas are all in the same family ( douche in the background is annoying)

  • red pandas are related to the common big, black, white pandas but they are closer relatives to the racoon family.

    tell your kid that.

    YOU LIED TO HIM!!!!

  • I wanted to tell him that myself when I filmed this lol.

But then I realized he was disabled.

  • @nevermind1993 Just wiki Ailuridae. They're not related to panda's or racoons at all, but the sole representative of their own family. "Red Pandas have no close living relatives, and their nearest fossil ancestors, Parailurus, lived 3-4 million years ago". Of course you were partially right, old research used to suggest they were related to raccoon's or had them placed in the bear family.

  • @Serpentine86 Well, that doesn't mean much - unless you refute evolution, we're all related - to everything. So, I could say red pandas are related to scorpions or squids and I'd still be correct.

The thing to appreciate is that ailurus fulgens are one of the few mammalian living fossils and as such, they aren't really closely related to anything. Indeed they are more closely related to raccoons but really, they're pretty much a biological relic.

  • @Serpentine86

Actually, they're neither. I'm not sure what zoology class you flunked out of, but they are now officially classified as their own family, called Ailuridae - which makes the preservation and repopulation of them critical.

    tell nevermind1993 that!

    YOU LIED TO HIM!!!!

  • too cute, I wish I could own one ha ha.

  • thanks for the video, they are soooooooooooooooooo cute

  • Thanks for sharing, I love the Red Panda

  • Red pandas are beautiful creatures and this video has some really good shots in it. Nice work!
