  • Refuel

  • Were you trying to show a video of that car shown that its out of gas?

  • Several BMWs have the movie rev limit thing like that. A 645 I drove had it.

  • I believe you have low tire pressure...

  • wow, i never knew the redline of the M3 moves!

such details is what i love of BMW

  • @Charlie135i it started with the e39M5 and e46 M3. Both used lighted sections on the RPM indicator that would go out progressively as you drove. You could still go to the redline if you wanted. It didnt cut the engine off, but it was there to recommend to you that you keep it at low revs. And its been in almost every M-series car since

  • that car hasnt been pre delivered yet. thats why the car is stone cold, theres the plastic wrap on the seats, has no fuel, the limiter is at 4500 and the odo reads 4

  • @GTModified also note the black cable running from the rear view mirror which is a battery inhibitor switch

  • 4 miles on the odometer!!!!

  • Bloody Hell! You were running on fumes!!!! And your one or more of your tires have an incorrect pressure/puncture. Lovely car...

  • engines sooo COLD! let it warm up!

  • thanks for wasting 1 minute of my life.

  • ohhh cold engine!

  • What does that red light going around the rev counter mean? I'm curious as to why it stopped at 4,000rpm?

  • im no expert, but from what i've read in the bmw magazines its the rev limiter. when you first start the car, then engine is cold so revving it to 8000rpms would fuck it up. if you look under the tachmeter you see the oil temp meter, as the engine/oil heats up, the maxium rpm level increases. after drving for a good 20mins then engine should be warm enough for you to unleash this V8 powere beast.

  • it shows the lowered rev limit because the engine wasnt completely warmed up...as the engine warms up, the rev limiter goes higher. when its completely warmed, i believe it goes all the way up to 8250-8450...it just shows the driver that potential damage is possible revving it passed the rev limiter when the engine is cold.

  • The only thing you guys have wrong is that it's a suggested rev limit. It doesn't limit your ability to succeed it. My E46 M3 had it as does my 'o7 605i

  • @mdapson Actually it does limit it. I got one.

  • Because its brand new, the engine is still new

  • i was gonna say "you need gas!" but i guess someone already told you that...damn

  • ooooh its only done 4 miles

  • i think its 4 km. cause the speedo and the little screen says km.

  • Ooooh dudes. Reading all your comments shows there is serious problems with your knowledge....Have you guys even seen the rev-counter on the m3. It's red-line moves with respect to the temprature of the engine. This is a cold start, so the red line went back to 4000-4500 rpm. After a couple of minutes of running it would go up, and let the engin run at full speed (8250 - oh my god). But race engines must be warmed up properly before use. Dude who made the video did a perfect job!

  • actually you seem to save gas when your going faster then going slower cause you seem to use more gas when your going up to speed

  • Have you ever learned physics in school mate?! You need more power to accelerate than keeping your velocity. To have more power the engines needs to burn more fuel. This is that simple...I'm not going into deeper this topic, cause you'd never understand it...

  • i think what he was trying to say the more he drove it conservativley the better average mpg he got from driving it like that. The car measures how you drive and takes a average from there. If you drive like a grandma the car will tell you hey your getting the best mpg this car will achieve. But if you drive like a mad man then your car will tell you on the display hey your not getting shit for gas mileage.

  • you need petrol!!

  • well, that and the fact that some parts of the engine heat up slower than other parts, and therefor do no increase in size at the same speed.

The engine has to be warmed up slowly when it is running, so what the man in the video is doing is perfectly fine.

  • Stop bitching about revving a cold engine. Yes we all know it's bad to rev a cold engine HIGH, and worst of all put heavy loads onto it when cold such as DRIVING and revving it, but F1 technique when warming up a cold engine is to start it up and rev it up and down the whole rev range and shut it off. Revving it to 4K is just circulating oil, you expect it to do damage?

  • Oh well, if you absolutely don't know anything about modern engine oils then please don't try to make a fool of yourself. Do you know that the oil inside that engine has a viscosity variance of the order of 10^3 between its cold state and operation temperature!?!? People, there is a reason why that oil temp. gauge is placed right in front of the driver...

BTW, the technique used to warm up a 19000rpm-1000km lifecycle F1 engine is very seriously relevant to our roadcar engines, right??

  • Atilcan you are totaly right!

  • First of all, the man only revs up to 3000 rpm. This is the same range of RPM's one would use when driving it.

Second, he uses very little throttle while revving. Less than he would use while driving. Less throttle = less power = less heat.

Revving your engine withing driving range rpm's, with reduced throttle, is less harmful than simply driving it!

Does any of you actually know WHY it's bad to rev your engine while it's cold?

  • Because materials grow bigger (if heated) and become smaller (if they are cooled). And the working temperature is 80-90C and when it reaches that temperature the pistons get the fitted size.

Btw I translated form my language so it may seem a bit not understandable.

  • i was always told that the engine's oil has settle when cold...and after the oil pump actually has lubricated the engine after about 5 -10 of circualtion then you can rev,but its not recommended because proper cooling isnt acheived while the car is sedentary. And ofcourse their are other reason but this is what I was told...

  • viscosity of the oil in cold temp affects lubrication effectiveness. what else is there? when you have two metal parts moving up and down, lubrication is the key to prevent damage outside of normal wear and tear

  • so apperently you guys do know why.

The you shoudl also realize that, as long as he revs within driving range rpm's, this doesn't harm anythign more than driving it does.

  • man that's the funniest video i've ever seen, this M3 was in a car sale, only driven 4 kilometers (probably test drive) empty fuel tank and tags still on it. and the dude was wearing the seatbelt while reving it INSIDE the car sale point. lol (notice the sound of the seatbelt being removed at the end of the video

  • the seatbelt light was clearly on the entire time and thats the sound of the person removing the key fob from the ignition

  • @Timartm5 all bmw have this problem tht tells u tht u have no seatbelt on but when u do have it on

  • That's 00004km and you're revving a cold, unbroken engine in neutral... What a great torture!!

  • the 4500rpm redline is there for a reason...if revving it at all when its cold was really that bad, BMW wouldve made it go up to 2k rpms...they set it to 4500rpm for a reason

  • It was dumb but in fairness all M engines are "broken in" before they hit the dealership. Thats why they pretty much garantee them for life.

  • my dads m5 hasnt really started to losen up till about 60000kms.. its getting way better fuel economy now

  • so ur saying the more u drive a car the better fuel milage because my old m5 was the complete opsite of ur dads m5

  • to a certain point, a car not run is going to use more gas than a car that is run in.

  • i had to read it a couple times to get it but it makes sence

  • please take this guy's m3 away...

first, you must be in really cold weather to have the redline startup that lowe

second, what idiot revs when its cold and not warmed up

    please...dont disgrace us e92 m3 owners

  • Uh, the redline is always that when you start it up totally cold. The older M3s also had that. If you owned one, you would know.

Also, that 4k redline is to keep you FROM overrevving it, but revving the engine while it's cold is NOT bad, if it's not too fast. Hence the 4k...cmon now.

  • @ferrari6891 He didn't rev it. Below ~3-4K is not revving.

  • 好車一台,浮動式紅線實在太酷了!

Good car.The variable red line is really cool!

  • Must be doing the PDI inspection. Still in transport mode, tire pressure not set, and no gas.

  • that nice!!! how it looks WOW love how the REV (red thing goes up) when turning the car on!!! Can´t wait to i get my M3 sedan (gettin´ it when i graduate YEY!!)

  • wow. someone doesnt realize that you're not supposed to rev the motor while the engine is cold.

  • love the new tach

  • cool
