They didn't tour much in the US because it was not worth it. If you want to see some good live performances , check out their Australia tour in March of 77. They were more popular in Australia than the Beatles.
I loved it the day I first heard it, and I love it now at age 63. The girls are beautiful, the group appears to enjoy every moment of it, and it's the total package. I'm told it is the most popular song ever produced -- YES !
i'm sad that never again will we hear their sweet beautiful voices like that. Until now, no ABBA tribute band has ever come close. Pitch perfect harmony, bright and clear, it's still the music i'm in love with.
This was the song they played at the roller-rink I use to go to during my junior high school days!!! It was great, the guys would grab their girl and skate around the rink all night long!!!! Now when I hear this song, it brings back great times and memories!!!!
at 0:48 - 0:52 you can VERY clearly hear Frida and Agnetha singing over top of the track. EVERY group and solo artist lip synched every now and then in those days.
My favorite ABBA video...it captures everything I liked about ABBA. The Karate outfits, the beautiful girls, the smiling boys - the song Dancing Queen which used to make my heart stop beating when I would hear it (I was 12) - too bad we had no YouTube then, and I never got to see them on TV - and not DVR/TIVO to record them.
I wonder if they thanked Harry Wayne Casey (i.e. KC) for the inspiration for Dancing Queen? KC wrote George McCrae's hit "Rock Me Baby", whose rhythm inspired Benny and Bjorn when writing...Dancing Queen.
The original studio master of Dancing Queen has a few bars of Rock Me Baby, just before the tracks starts, so that all the muscians could hear it and remember the rhythm and feel of the track, that they were trying to reproduce. All confirmed by ABBA engineer Michael B. Tretow...
Unlike this performance, Midnight Special was live. We had other good live music on Friday and Saturday nights too, back in early and mid 1970's. I wish there were good concert shows like this on today !
Absolutely not true...see the Midnight Special performances of "Fernando" and "Mamma Mia"...yes, canned backing tracks but unquestionably live (and brilliant) vocals.
Gotta love those onstage fades!

Lip synching. Proof at 3:41. Dumb broad on the left is too busy dancing to remember she's supposed to be singing. Disco sucks. Thank God for punk.

This song caught my ear on the first listen. Not Mamma Mia, Not I Do x 5, Fernando was almost there but nothing could beat Dancing Queen.

Great song... but heck... lip synched. Most of the Midnight Special is live... I just hate artists singing to records in a live setting.

With no exception; if ABBA was on television; they were lip syncing...not so much for vocal effect; but their music was symphonically supported.

@nachtkrieg actually there is proof in the video that it is totally lip synched. Watch Bennny playing piano.

There is a mistake in the date, that performance was on October 11th, 1976 in Los Angeles in their third promotional visit to USA.
By the way, nice introduction of Mr. K.C !!!!!!!
