  • Shawn...

3.. Since your original casting concept is that of an upright position (casting overhand to the target), and since the ball is below..should we visualize that we are collecting the ball in a fishing cast with an UNDERHAND fishing cast, thereby helping to hold the right elbow position for a better lag position?

  • @paularagon11 Yes; Very good Paul! You will see this in the video called "fishing and golf; shawn clement"

    All the best! Shawn

  • Shawn...

1.I like this visualization, but am still having a DIFFICULT time trying to not cross the line at the top of the swing.

    2. Can we assume that the visualizaiton is that the back of the hosel is leading the cast and the face of the club is turning over unconsciously when the elbow straightens, like Pete Sampras' tennis swing?

  • Hi Shawn, Does it not go against "giving up control" in the backswing.

  • @mjs0039 Great point! To swing well, first you need to know the feel so that the central nervous system can allow you to match this more efficient motion to the intent which is "send ball to target" or "send momentum to target and collect ball-grass-ground on the way there". How can you turn it loose and let it go when you do not know what it should feel like? Have a look at last night's upload called "Feel the swing plane"; it gets deeper in the rabbit hole as far as feel is concerned...

  • @clemshaw Thanks Shawn.

  • Now I get where my arms are supposed to be at the top of my backswing. Thanks again Shawn !

  • shawn I think you are by far a super instructor thank you much for your video, the only thing is you have to slow things down and get the camera a little closer so we can get a good look. it's sad we have never meet and I have made you my golf instructor

  • Could you please express what the feeling is when you brace against the front side just before the downswing in this video? Does it start in the left arch and quickly rolls over to outside - or does it start bracing into the outside of left foot and rolling?

  • @onpar18 Always stays against the left foot; it should not roll to the outside!

See "golf pro lesson how to get more club speed and power", "golf pro lesson feet together and one leg update" and "golf pro lesson tilted twirl"!

    Shawn

  • How do you differentiate between this casting concept and the faulty prerelease that zaps power from the swing and kills lag

  • @paularagon Easy! Is your focus on the ball or on the target?? See "golf pro lesson proper focus" part 1 and 2; also, my new 5 disc dvd series is hot off the presses and has it all! An absolute must have; when you are done with that, you will really understand how the swing should feel and then understand how to send this feel to the target! Shawn

  • Hi shawn,

    Just a quickie.

How would you hit the ball on a low trajectory from a completely neutral start / set up position? Ive been told that I strike the ball wonderfully, but that I hit my irons too high. I have been told i need a lower trajectory / penetrative flight on all my irons but I cannot achieve this from a neutral position. Is a high ball flight bad? I thought Mickleson & Nicklaus had high ball flights?

    Best Regards

  • @Frazer20 See "golf pro lesson compress through the ball" and "golf pro lesson one leg swing no weightshift" and "One leg swing part 2 high and low shots"

  • Shawn, your utube video lessons are awesome! I picked up golf after 5 years and your lessons have made my swing much more effortless. I am starting to enjoy looking more at the target in the fairway and less at the ball!

  • How can i emulate Vijah singh's right arm motion in the down swing the way the elbow gets tucked in near the hip . this was a key element in my natural swing but ive forgot and am trying to remember.

  • @rstar88105 ; Have a look at my video called "golf pro lesson elbow close?" video; as well as the "golf pro lesson arms falling down plane"; plus a new one I just uploaded called "golf pro lesson stop crashing" has some great insight!

    Shawn

  • Shawn what type of mic do you use?

  • Just out of curiosity, I tried starting the swing by actually casting the club back to the (imaginary) guy behind me and other variations. I found that if I went to the top of the real backswing (to the top plus the thunk back to the left side) and then threw the club down to the ground to my right, it twirled me around very fast and I just pounded the ball. The harder you throw the less control. It's a different feel than I've been doing and before I spend more time at it, what do you think?

  • Shawn - Thanks for giving me permission to feel the natural elastic tension when the right arm folds and the wrists set. All that maintain grip pressure and stay tension free stuff prevented me from setting properly at the top.

  • Shawn, I just wanted to thank you for your amazing work you've done creating these videos. They are really great and helped me improve my golf swing! (and maybe my english, too :-) )

  • Hi Shawn,

I have been watching videos and practising your teaching all winter. I played for the first time this early spring and shot 85 (averaged 91 all last year) Driver and pitching were excellent but my irons flew consistently right of target with a straight ball flight.

They had distance but where am I going wrong? I am using your slightly closed club face suggestion. Is my ball too far back in my stance? I am getting greedy for still more improvement this season.

    Your the best

  • Hi Shawn ,

I was woundering if u could make a video on how to hit the ball higher and lower

    Love the vids :)

  • Thanks for your videos they are awsome. This one helped me big time with the aligment at the top of the swing.

  • What do you think about this swing thought? I have been having some trouble staying down and "topping" some golf balls so now when i finish my backswing and start my downswing i think about having to "long jump as far as i can towards the target" which makes me squat and plow through the ball because I can't jump far without a little squat and whip of my hips. Good thoughts? Or do you see problems with that?

  • I've been watching your videos for almost a year now with some success, but im still making the same mistake, hitting the ball fat. i dont know if im swinging to hard or getting out of position. would it be helpful to buy the dvds and if so is there more informaion than the uube videos.

  • The DVDs will help because they have all the important information in priority sequence with many other analogies you have not seen; it could be letting go of your grip in the backswing, or not enough width, or the fact that you keep defaulting to the ball; the most important video for the golf course is "golf pro lesson the insanity of golf"...see also my "swing analysis services" page on my website for a video analysis and I can tell you where to focus your attention...

  • @clemshaw Thanks for all the videos. I also went ahead and bought your DVD which is excellent too. In times of trouble (normally shanks) I always revert to the Hogan POwer drill and Arms in front of body video. You are a great teacher because you are able to explain thing so well to the average Joe. Hit 20 plus shanks last night, came home and watched the above 2 videos multiple times and the footwork vid and won my match today 7&6. Thank you so much!!

  • @GEORGE1470 You The man George!

  • Hi Shawn,

I have been reading a book called the Golfing Machine by Homer Kelly but it is way too technical for me. Could you perhaps do a video on the difference between a hitter and a swinger and horizontal and angled hinging ?? And would you say that your golfswing is that of a swinger?

Many thanks in advance and Norm and I hope to come back for more lossons in September. Greetings from vancouver, Jette Elliot

  • Hi Jette; You need a good blend of both!! Do you know there is 2000 pounds of pressure on the club face in that .04 miliseconds of impact? To say there is no hit would be crazy! See "golf pro lesson how much hit to apply" and you will get the picture; as for the hinging, you know how the wrists hinge on an anatomical standpoint right? See "golf pro lesson bridging flat wrist with hinged wrists" Shawn

  • Best instructor out there, period! Watch his Videos and a better game is just around the corner. Thanks for all you do for us trying to become better and better at the wonderful game of Golf.

  • 2) i want to change my grip but there is no shop who provide them here in Saudi Arabia .. how do i know what is the perfect one for me ?? is it midsize or normal size ?? how do i know ?

Thanks alot Mr. Shawn for your support for all the golfers and I hope to meet you one day to learn from you

    Abdullah

  • I have this in the second half of the "golf pro lesson grip 2 wrist hinge" video; you will see what I mean; Shawn

  • Hello Mr. Shawn

this is Abdullah from saudi arabia . i love your videos i have been playing for a year now and i learned alot from them and still learning.

I have a couple of questions i hope you have the time to answer them for me

    1) when I hit my driver i can easliy get 200 yards out of them but always its slides to the right i tried a lot of ways to solve it but i couldn`t so i hit very slow just to be safe .. what do you suggests ?

  • First, the club face through the grip so see "golf pro lesson weak or strong grip" and go for a stronger grip to close the face more; then see "golf pro lesson taut swing philosophy" to get the feel of the snap through the ball of that right hand over the left hand; then see "golf pro lesson great driver tip" to get the proper set up with the ball on the tee! Shawn

  • Hi Shawn, another excellent video thank you - is it just me or are all the major swing-related problems resolved by completing a full, on-plane backswing?

Otherwise, I am really interested to know - other than your home course, which is the best/most enjoyable course you've played? Also, which is the most difficult?

  • Thanks for the comment!

Pretty much! If you get to a backswing position that allows you to simply whip the club to a target without thought and manipulation, then you have consistency and a loaded gun to hunt with. As for the courses, around Toronto it is Taboo Resort for pure enjoyment and solid challenge and in the US it is Pinehurst #2; just a nice wow all around for atmosphere, shotmaking, challenge and when you have a great caddie like Sydney, total enjoyment in the moment.

  • Shawn, ya need to get on the PGA tour and show Phil how left handed golf is meant to be played! Give Tiger a run at the masters!

  • @NikeGolf118

yeah..get the birdie, not the chicks

  • T'es vraiment bon...et tes cours sont les meilleurs que je connaisse...Merci! thanks a zillion :-)))

  • Another great vid by SC!!!

  • Did you teach yourself to play the game?

  • In a nutshell: I studied the anatomy of the body and the physics that apply to the golf swing and took it to both my swings, right and left; then I went to all the top instructors and players in golf and many other sports and disciplines and took out all the nuggets that worked in harmony with my findings; the results put me on the right path and I am now learning on the proper curve that continues to yield very positive results that work with young kids to the elderly and all in between...

  • Nicely done Mr. Shawn

  • Your swing reminds me somewhat of Payne Stewarts swing.

  • I am willing to bet you could fix Charles Barkley! I have no idea what Hank is teaching, but it's not easy.. Shawn I have a Q about the front foot. When I apply your swing principals I hit the ball well but I find my front toe is closer to the target when I finish (like it is sliding) is that normal because of momentum? -Joe

  • Hey ashjdag! Thanks for the comment and question; this is what we call a spin out and it is the result of not enough pressure against the left side before the arms come down; see "golf pro lesson swing sequence", golf pro lesson downswing weightshift", "golf pro lesson sequence power drills" and for Charles Barkley, "Golf Pro lesson perpetual motion drill" and "golf pro lesson timing and tempo update"

    Shawn

  • @clemshaw : Shawn I firmed up my left leg like you suggested to stop the "spin out". I have to tell you it worked but my ankel and left leg was killing me the next day..lol. I guess I was doing it right. Thanks for the tip - Joe

  • Great video once again Shawn no one else tells the real idea better than you, and going into just my 3rd season of the game I soak it up like a sponge. Looking to get to steady 15 handicap this year

  • GREAT ! THANKS

  • Watching right now. Kind of off topic, but did you lose some weight? ;)

  • It has been up and down; was better 3 years ago and even better 7 years ago; trying to get back there but life keeps taking over...:)

  • Shawn.. great video. Symmetrically speaking on the follow thru is there an ideal point that the 'casting' would point to your target? Thanks

    8i

  • I would answer that this way: as the right arm gets pulled into full extension past the ball, this is where I feel the snap that releases the back hand over and up and where I feel the most pull on the shoulder sockets; then I allow the momentum to continue deep and high into the finish;

    I hope this help! Shawn
