Greyhound buses suck, I had travelled a lot with them in my life, but they stink, no tv, no good reclining seats, not much space between seats, etc, ye should come down here in Mexico and check the real deal on what a good coach line bus is, just to put an example look for AUTOBUSES ADO links here and see it yourself, I cant believe dat a third class country like Mexico can have such a fanzy way of road travelling, my greetings from mexico amigos
do They Still Have A Few Of These Pupies Left On The Road Despite The Machanical Problems There Were Having? I Love The Design. For It To Be A 2004 Model.
@mmffl123456, that's not true, every bus besides NJT jakes that I know come on when lifting off the gas and I used to follow a Vanhool in my city that the jake came on way b4 the brake lights did, so I'm guessing NJT has a lower grade Jake while others have a higher grade Jake, and this video thast imma send you to would prove that......I believe it's greyhound 6384
Okay, well I live in NJ and drove some NJT's. Ive also drove some private owned D4505's, but everything ive been behind the whell of has the B500 tranny, so your probably right. but i'm just going off of what I have seen.
@midtown292 When I drove buses in Alaska, I cared more about ease of use than how they sound. Though the knocking that ZFs would make going into third (especially on Van Hools) didn't do it any favors.
@Futurerescue most coaches have an what i call "oddball tranny" meaning that for shifting you have to let off the accelerator most likely if you hear a jake brake in between shifts your coach probably has this type of tranny ive rode on many like that but to answer your ? a jake brake is an engine brake there fore everytime you let off the accelerator you hear it if the driver has it on
They seemed good, but Greyhound said they had alot of problems with those buses! And they were only built really for Greyhound. I got on 1 like 5 years back, they were horrible IMO!
Wow this sounds just like the Series 60 Eighteen wheeler trucks the way that ZF Automatic Tranny makes this bus shift. This also sounds like that D4500 MCI Greyhound bus I took from West Palm Beach, FL back to Atlanta.
I made this recording back in 2005. I worked inside the Greyhound Terminals...eventually made lots of friends in maintenance and drivers operations. That day we just got # 7284 brand new from MCI ... and one of the Operation Managers invited me along to record this bus. At first glance, I didnt like the way this ZF ASTronic shifts. The jake brake makes up for it.

New Jersey Transit MCI's has a Jake that operates only when the brake is pressed, idk if it were specially made for NJT but is the only agenc

@luvdat8v71
That's pretty much for any bus that has Jake's and a auto or automated in this country( don't know how other country's do it)

Eugh, ZF transmissions. Give me an Allison full automatic any day.
madnavigator 1 year ago
@madnavigator Pff, Allisonssuck,but this is not the best ZF either. The 6 speed ZF Ecomat is a much nicer sounding full automatic transmission.

ive seen this bus a couple times back in Cleveland, Ohio. Drove an E4500 with this same tranny. Rather run to drive but takes a lil gettin used too.

@ea90744. Ive noticed that with motorcoaches, the jake sound between shifts. Now why exactly does this happen?

This is a very good looking Motorcoach for it's "Short Lived" run. Why they stopped building them?
