Hitchens' points are all skilfully rebutted by Breindel - who, though he looks as if he's been having a drink too many, has the right angle on the issue, and makes Hitchens look as though he's talking out of a hole in his bottom. Hitchens' fondness for Irving has a lot to do, I suspect, with the fact that Irving denigrates Winston Churchill flagrantly in the ill-begotten works of fiction that he calls 'History'. Hitchens must feel he's found a blood-brother in Irving. What a despicable pair!

If you get away from the issue a second to look at these two men -- both edgy, brilliant, contentious to obsessive -- Hitchens committed to examining all sides, conventional morality or sensitivities be damned; Breindel, for his part, hardly to be expected to have any objectivity if you consider his origins. Hitchens is correct but implacable; Breindel is doing an emotional high wire act with no wire (turn down the sound and just watch his face.) Whole thing is rather heartbreaking.

It's funny that Hitchens mentions not being able to see them, because unless he knows Breindel already, I would have to guess he has a very inaccurate mental image of him here. Even though Breindel apparently has the shakiest voice known to man, a statement like "So we have no problem" at 7:30 at least sounds assured. When you see him, though, it looks utterly desperate.
I think Hitchens has set his position out thoroughly within the first two minutes, and it is remarkably even-handed: Irving is steeped in documentary knowledge of his subject and is an important voice in the field; he is, for all that, opinionated in a way that is frankly revisionist and bound to be objectionable to many; but nonetheless his work should not and must not be suppressed, especially in America, where we expect comprehensive availability of all sides of an issue. That guy who Hitchens was arguing against said that a publisher "extends a piece of his reputation" by publishing books. But it should go without saying that a publisher doesn't just publish books that he agrees with. As long as they do what is fair and reasonable, which is to publish all well-researched and well-written material on the subject, regardless of the position of the author, no reasonable person would hold them in the wrong.
I wanted to read "200 Years Together," the final work by that greatest writer of the 20th Center, Solzhenitsyn, but it is unavailable in English. Originally I was sympathetic to Jewish interests, but unavailability of this book has convinced me that Jews indeed control what we may read and thereby control our opinions in many areas, such as the Palestinian conflict. I like Christopher Hitchens but I'm rather surprised that an informed man would claim that David Irving is a 'historian' given that Irving has no formal training in that area. He's more of an armchair historian, however Hitler apologist might suit him better. It does appear that most of the pictures of dead bodies were taken by Russian photographers in the East. The vast majority of the prisoners were captured Russian soldiers, whom the Germans were happy to let die. Most people don't know this, but the Soviet Union was a Jewish controlled state. The "capos" running the camps were all Communist Jews.

Hitchens' points are all skilfully rebutted by Breindel - who, though he looks as if he's been having a drink too many, has the right angle on the issue, and makes Hitchens look as though he's talking out of a hole in his bottom. Hitchens' fondness for Irving has a lot to do, I suspect, with the fact that Irving denigrates Winston Churchill flagrantly in the ill-begotten works of fiction that he calls 'History'. Hitchens must feel he's found a blood-brother in Irving. What a despicable pair!

If you get away from the issue a second to look at these two men -- both edgy, brilliant, contentious to obsessive -- Hitchens committed to examining all sides, conventional morality or sensitivities be damned; Breindel, for his part, hardly to be expected to have any objectivity if you consider his origins. Hitchens is correct but implacable; Breindel is doing an emotional high wire act with no wire (turn down the sound and just watch his face.) Whole thing is rather heartbreaking.

It's funny that Hitchens mentions not being able to see them, because unless he knows Breindel already, I would have to guess he has a very inaccurate mental image of him here. I think Hitchens has set his position out thoroughly within the first two minutes, and it is remarkably even-handed: Irving is steeped in documentary knowledge of his subject and is an important voice in the field; he is, for all that, opinionated in a way that is frankly revisionist and bound to be objectionable to many; but nonetheless his work should not and must not be suppressed, especially in America, where we expect comprehensive availability of all sides of an issue. Enough said.

But it should go without saying that a publisher doesn't just publish books that he agrees with. I wanted to read "200 Years Together," the final work by that greatest writer of the 20th Center, Solzhenitsyn, but it is unavailable in English. Originally I was sympathetic to Jewish interests, but unavailability of this book has convinced me that Jews indeed control what we may read and thereby control our opinions in many areas, such as the Palestinian conflict. I hope the late events in the Maghreb results in humbling of Jewish intellectual and physical aggression in the free world.

Regarding Goering's memorandum to Heydrich - the letter that was used as the template for the Wannsee conference - not once does Goering express the annihilation of the Jews, but rather the emigration on account of Germany's ability to facilitate a productive economy in accordance with the four year plan. I like Christopher Hitchens but I'm rather surprised that an informed man would claim that David Irving is a 'historian' given that Irving has no formal training in that area. He's more of an armchair historian, however Hitler apologist might suit him better. Whatever the fluid definition of historian Hitchens is working from, it still doesn't discount that Irving has been routinely and publicly debunked by several legitimate historians and skeptics since his work was first published.

Irving isn't the first to consult archival material so he's not unique in that respect. Finally, as I said in my original comment, Irving's 'evidence' has been consistently debunked by legitimate historians over the past 2 decades - the guy is a hateful, Nazi apologist who manipulates data for his own ends.

@septip123 The Marines liberated Ohrdruf, which was a labor camp with no killing facilities. The only filmed images of liberated camps that we have from Americans are from Ohrdruf, - orhdruf was not even part of the "holocaust"- it was a labor camp - the liberation of these camps and exaggeration of the atrocities committed there was for political purposes, to further justify american participation in the war. The marine would probably be more pissed off about what we did to America since.

@lictor313 There's a good chance that dead bodies would be found in most concentration camps. Prisoners were dying from typus and starvation everywhere. It does appear that most of the pictures of dead bodies were taken by Russian photographers in the East. The vast majority of the prisoners were captured Russian soldiers, whom the Germans were happy to let die. Most people don't know this, but the Soviet Union was a Jewish controlled state. The "capos" running the camps were all Communist Jews.

Odds are, they're more likely Russians, Ukranians, and Poles, not to mention prisoners from all over Eastern, Western, and Northern Europe. You know. War prisoners. Remember them.
