Usually when I am conversing with friends and associates of different races, the color of their skin is not at the forefront of my consciousness. Like height, weight, hair and eye color, skin color is something that we are aware off but not something that most normal people fixate on. matthews could also add that Obama belongs to a subset of people who have political acumen and understand how to motivate others, a group that matthews and other political types are in. We have a similiar feeling among lawyers...our training in the law and being subjected to the crucible of law school gives us more in common, even if we are from different races or countries, with each other, than we have with other persons in our own race. Race is a minor consideration in that event.

I am white and i was brought up to be predjudice. but watching MLK and black people struggle all those years made me change. i've worked with and lived with black people, and i've learned that THEY ARE PEOPLE! Chris mathews needs to come off his liberal white horse, get a life, and get a real job! like i said THERE IS SOMTHING WRONG WITH HIM!

I forgot Chris Matthews got famous by pretending to be a conservative. I also forgot that liberals see black people as inferior. Liberals are not compassionate. They are condescending! There is a difference.

What a God D*** racist. How did he feel when he remembered he was black. Someone not concerned with race would see a man with black skin and not care. I don't want to hear his explanation, after carefully thinking it out and being told what to say. His true feelings came out. This has so many layers of racism it's unbelievable. Did he speak so well and articulate that he couldn't have been a black man? Sadly, the media and you liberals out there will defend it and your own racism.

He forgot he is black? Does that mean they are finally seeing the white-half of Obama? I watched Chris on MSNBC for almost 10 seconds before I realized he was an ignorant racist. Is it just me or does Mathews look like the porch banjo picker from "Deliverance"? "Tingles" strikes again. Bet he had a 70 minute woody listening to BO. Until last night it was Matthews racist belief that Black people were not capable of making a State of the Union speech.
