I use both the MPC 2000XL and Maschine amongst others. I think Maschine is awesome but you do have to give a lot of credit to the MPC. If the MPC hadn't set the groundwork Maschine probably would not exist. It sucks that akai didn't have the foresight to have made a product like this before N.I but that's business. N.I saw the opening and took it.
