@valery374. Music/dances change. I've seen huge changes over the last 50 years - especially as records took over how music "should" be played - My mother complained of the same problem in the 20/30's.
Even Irish flings - probably our only indigenous Irish dance form/tune is being lost - at least down here in the South of the country as they're now always played as Barn dances Single jigs became slides. A Belfast polka is much nearer to it's Polish roots than anything one will hear West or South
my friend is sitting here with me and she dances in open! lol but she wants you to know that you should stay up on your toes a bit more. otherwise, this is amazing! keep up the great work (:
@ceroeck It isn't a hornpipe - this is danced as a 'Set- Dance' or sometimes called a step-dance. It's usually in 6/8. This is played in 12/8. I've even seen it marked as a march 1 I've been playing it for years and like to follow it with the Butterfly. (9/8 slip-jig - though I've seen it danced once as a Hop (heavy-shoed) jig.
@pfiddle I've been involved in Irish dance for nearly 30 years, and I've seen (and performed) solo hornpipes to Rights of Man played in 4/4 with the "swing." In fact, I've never seen it done any other way. That's not to say it isn't done any other way.
Even so, in set dancing, a hornpipe is still a hornpipe- just played without the swing. (And I've never heard of set dancing refered to as "step dancing," either. Or of any hop jig danced in heavy shoes.)
was brillant im a irish dancer and i love gettin up on stage and u looked like u really enjoyed it! and who ever made ur dress should be so proud cause its lovely.... my mum made my the design and all!
wow that's really good, I agree your turnout could be a little better but most people have that problem at some point. oh and by the way I LOVE your solo dress it's very traditional(in a good way) it's not very often you see a dress like that now.
If You Worked Turning Your Feet Out A Little More, It Would Make Your Clicks Easier To Do, I Got Critisized For Doing The Same Lol, Clear Sound Though :) x
shoulders back, chin up, turn out, straightern leg on extensions, push toes down in clicks, lift in back without dangling toe, close knees, cross-you have nice clear sound

Funny. I actually love traditional speed hornpipes, but have been discouraged from teaching them at the novice/PW level.
Really, I think it would be lovely if everyone had a choice, but oh well. Slow's pretty cool too.
