Look for the 2100 model or the 2500 ( 50 watt ) model of the JCM 900 -- those range depending on the seller and condition.. from 700ish to about 1000 bucks. the other reverb versions are maybe 600 bucks on ebay, but they're muddy as hell, and don't have EL34s -- so people argue that they don't have the classic marshall tone.

Have you try cranking the gain? You should crank both the gain and volume up. Apart of that, maybe of the camera's quality of this video makes it even more distortion.
Hey man i have the jcm 900 also (i use it as a back up) However i dont play metal i play classic rock, the key to getting a great sound out of this amp is to cut the gain back and crank the master volume on the overdrive channel... It sounds great
With guitar amps, a 100 watt amp is not twice as loud as a 50 watt amp. A 500 watt amp would be twice as loud as a 50 watt amp. It is about a tenfold difference, meaning 10db is going to be roughly double the volume.
Now, speakers is where you will get a significant difference in sound. Depending on speaker type, each additional speaker will add approx 3db to shear volume. Hence a 4x12 cabinet will be 6db louder than a 2x12 cab. Remember 10db is double the volume.

900 has twice as much gain. If you wanna play metal long sustained leads with fast response u can get an 800 with a boss driver or ts9. I prefer 900 for more diversity. But if you like the tone of an 800 u shud get that 1.

For a start, its a great amp played badly, and seccond, I have reason to believe that (apart from a very few american heads) all dual reverb heads and most SLX heads actually use 5881s, the european version of the 6l6

EMGs can play more than just metal (but there intended to metal) BUT there are like the emg 91 witch has a jazz tone... so look around. You also can make the pickup clean and act like a hummbucker. =D

I got the 16ohm THD HOtplate. My TSL sounds killer with it. Not so killer without it. I run it a an 8 db drop and my Crunch channel volume at 7 and gain at 4. Sounds awesome.
I get very Fender-like cleans. I can also nail the 800 sounds, and lots of warm mids. Not a Mk1 tone, but you can get very heavy on channel 3. I use it as my solo channel. Very versatile. Sounds better than the new JVM.

Ask any tech or player from the 80s. Marshall went downhill in '85 in components used and circuit design. I've owned a Dual Master with EL34s, the only worthwhile JCM 900, and it sucked....

Ask any tech or player from the 80s. Marshall went downhill in '85 in components used and circuit design. I've owned a Dual Master with EL34s, the only worthwhile JCM 900, and it sucked....
