Anahu, I agree, except for the fact I need to go like 45 minutes out of town to see one. Also I can't legally drive. Legally.
I agree with all your points. There's only one drive-in in my town and it is about 3 dollars more (which I don't appreciate) however, you do get 3 movies. (But you need to make sure you have lots of time and sleep caught up.)
Also, I find it fun to go with large groups and to squish into a car. That's just something fun to experience.
HEREHERE! Quality video as usual (: And I honestly came out of it feeling so inspired to DO SOMETHING about this heart-shattering issue that plagues our nation
We don't have drive in (movie theatres) in Belgium
And you convince me.
But how does the volume control works? Do you tune in on your radio set?
You did let out on big advantage of theatres, and that is Dolby surround sound.
And two movies for the price of one. In the gaumant, theatre in antwerp they just let you walk out at the entrance of a screening room and walk into another one. And they display the movie played at the entrance.
@Mistifiedwolf The sound comes through the radio, so either in your car, or outside of it, you can adjust the volume on whatever radio you're using to listen. And I agree that surround sound is pretty awesome, and I'm not saying that theatres don't have their merits. Just that I prefer drive-ins. And that's cool! It makes me jealous.
I want to pay attention to what you're saying so badly....but as a booknerd my gaze keeps wandering ofter to the left side of the screen :| I'M SORRY.
I talk at the movie screen too. All of my friends yell at me for it ha. We could go to a drive in together xD
Seriously though, I have another friend that talks at the movie screen as well and we went to a movie together which a bunch of our other friends and they all were sooo pissed at us by the end...
@lepainauchocolat No reason to be sorry. I think it's an American thing. They're basically giant outdoor movie theatres that show two movies back-to-back, instead of one. You sit in your car--or your bring chairs to sit BY your car, and the audio for whatever movie combination you choose is on a radio station, so all the sound comes through your car speakers or a little radio that you can buy when you pull in. They technically have concession stands, but most people bring their own snacks.
Holy cow by the end of the night I will have watched every single one of your video. You are a comical genius, and you are so logical. I must agree, drive in movies do kick ass.
I'm Swedish. In Sweden, movies that are not in Swedish have Swedish subtitles. When I went to see the last Harry Potter movie, a woman and her son were sitting right behind me. The kid was clearly too young to even be there, considering he didn't know English and also couldn't read yet - which I know because I spent the entire movie listening to his mom reading the subtitles out loud.
@LindseytheNerdiest No. I thought about it, but I'm too nice to punch people, even when they deserve it. I did try to shush her several times, but she ignored me.
@Kathadrion You probably made a wise decision. I mean, that whole "assault" thing might have come back to haunt you. What if you'd gotten removed from the theatre? THAT would have been a tragedy...But she did deserve it.

Drive-in ticket prices are awesome because they usually gauge you at the concession.
@catastrophicclover Yeah. You're talking to the champ of snarky comments. I can't NOT say things like "Really, Michael Bay? We needed to knock over the same building THREE times while the characters were inside, and they aren't dead?" and "Running away in high heels? That's not real." Which is why I haven't been able to sit with my family at the movies since I was, like, thirteen.
The fact that I'm a movie talker always makes sitting next to someone I don't know so well incredibly awkward, because I still can't refrain from talking back to them! :P I love drive-ins so much. :)
@ThatHanniganfellow They're definitely endangered, but I've been in both Indiana and Arizona, so some of them are still fighting the good fight. It's good to know that Vermont's in the game, too.
COMPLETELY agree with you about drive-ins. We used to have one in my hometown that my parents took me to all the time. I remember seeing my first PG-13 movie (Batman and Robin...man that Bane scene scared me for years)...there and it was just always such a fun experience! The closest one to me (being 45 minutes away) just closed down so now we are at a loss!
Hey, I'm a movie talker too! I always feel so bad about it, but I'm the WORST when I have another movie talker with me, because we'll talk ABOUT the movie together. I usually try to keep it down in the theater though.
@Azami4117 Apparently mentioning that fourteen-year-olds lick each other's tonsils makes YouTube think that tonsils are the major subject matter that people are interested in. I'm just unnerved by the sheer NUMBER of real-life tonsil-related videos that people have made...
@LindseytheNerdiest Hey, we decided to interpret all of the Emily Dickinson poems today in English sexually leading to a discussion/argument over how to say orgasm in French and settling on the fact that my English teacher is a closet pervert (which is why we love her), I've stopped defining things by weird XD
My father used to work at a drive-in, so whenever I ask if we can go to the nearest one together (I can't drive yet), he gets really upset because he "never wants to see a drive-in again"
There haven't been any drive-ins in my hometown since the early 80s. We're so far north that if it's warm enough to GO to a drive-in movie, it doesn't get dark until at least 10 pm. Such a drag!
I think a lot of places just can't have one because there's no rural area near by. When I was a kid we went all the time, but slowly it became less and less of a popular spot. At the time, I thought the reason was because the owners just didn't bother to keep the place nice. This was before they switched over to sending the audio over the radio, so they had speaker boxes next to the cars that were on the same level of suck as drive thru speakers. I've only gone to the drive-in once or twice (our cars at the time had shitty sound systems, so audio was a problem). But I drive past one on at least a twice weekly basis. I always like laughing at the often odd movie combonations. The best was when they had Rango with True Grit, I wonder what the mentality behind that combonations was (they're both westerns?).
@RatsRule Bahahahaha! That's great, I think that kids generally fall asleep after the first movie, so a lot of the time cartoons and the like are paired with movies for their parents.

I'm very thankful to John Green for pointing me here. You are smart, funny, cute and fun to watch. However, there is something to be said for being overwhelmed by the sights and sounds of a movie on the big screen. Sitting in the car adds a layer of insulation that reminds you of how unreal everything on the screen is.
@StorytimewithAlex I guess that's true, but in my case, I tend to get tunnel vision where movies are concerned--hence the talking to the screen--so I'm not sure that statement applies to me as much.
Since you mentioned tonsil licking, some of the suggested videos are of peoples tonsils. Mostly they're being scraped. D: Please don't ever mention tonsils again.
@LindseytheNerdiest Well, this video helped me figure out what's been wrong with my tonsils for like 13 years! Darn those doctors for not removing them when i was ten. Bread my ass. Not to that extent oh god. But yes! So thankyou!
I've only been a couple times, but it is for sure one of the BEST ways to spend a summer night! Especially in a van or truck with a bed, so you can watch under the stars...ugh! magical.
Okay seriously now, this is one of my things that I rant about too. Drive-ins are totally the best!!! This one I used toi go to had a swing set under the screen. A SWING SET. Don't feel like watching trailers? I think I'll go for a swing! It kicks all kinds of ass.
Sadly, I think it is economics that has made drive-ins so rare. A couple of those things that make it great for the consumer (low snack prices, especially, since that is where theaters make most of their money) make it not so great for the business.
But they are definitely worlds better than the movie theater - provided you have at least a semi-nice car. :)
@gulp3sif You're not very far away at all, so no. You should definitely go if you can. It's something that can't be explained as well as it can be experienced.
I absolutely LOVE the drive-in! :D There's one close-ish to where I live (well... lived, before I had to leave for college...), and also one close to my grandparent's house.
I got to see the newest Harry Potter movie as a double-feature with the first half :3 *epic win*
I went to a drive-in with my neighbor and her kid when we were little, I think to see Jaws, and haven't been back since! Really need to find one in the area.
I talk through the movies too! except I don't (usually) talk to the screen. Instead I tend to whisper jokes into my friends ears as we watch. I can't help mocking the movie! even if its one I love. This means I have to sit next to people who know and love me, and don't mind being interrupted during key movie moments (even by my hilarious commentary). I want to go to a drive in - but I'm not sure they exist in england.
@LindseytheNerdiest - maybe the related videos are about tonsils because they just HAPPENED to catch that bit where you were talking about piles of hormones licking each other's tonsils. don't ask me how they do that. it's scary. also, i love your videos. and i LOVE the drive in. i don't know why i don't go more often. WAIT it's because the closest one is an HOUR away. thank you for your video!
thanks for sharing! support! especially since most drive-ins are dying. Why is it that drive-ins are so much more fun yet they are forced to become extinct? =[
I love my drive in :) Unfortunately I am among those people who have to drive for thirty minutes down the freeway to get there... Still, it is very very worth it
@alymarcas Me too! And I can only restrain myself if I'm super-motivated. My favorite is when you're screaming into your buddy's ear during a preview, but then it cuts off and everyone in the theatre can hear you.
Drive-ins are the best! I haven't been able to drag myself to a movie theater since going to the drive-in over the summer. I wish the drive-in were close enough, or there were more of them... (I would just assume that if more drive-ins existed, then there might be more options for what to see...)
I really like just seeing movies at home or at a friend's house though... Same pros apply as with drive-ins, except the screen is smaller and you have to wait until you can buy the movies.
Drive-ins are awesome if you have kids too. I usually spend the entire first movie trying to convince my kids to fall asleep in the back seat so that I can stay for the second (often more adult and completely inappropriate for youngins). Sometimes we stay and sometimes not, but at least we don't have to get a sitter!
I freaking love you. You have good points there! Oh and sometimes you pay per car, so that means it there's 9 people in your car, you only pay for less that $10! Yay for saving money!
i wish there was a drive in near where i live :( i don't think there's one within a reasonable driving distance
(random note: pretty much all the "related videos" off to the side are all about tonsils and have pictures of the backs of people's throats....ew 0.o )
@geekwidacomputer ...I'm not really sure why that is...Maybe "PWNS" is also the short version of a tonsil disease...? I'm also not sure why that makes me feel so much cooler...
Why are there so many videos about tonsils in the suggestions? Oh yeah. Thank god my little almost-fourteen year old brother is still repulsed by girls and cooties.
I agree! There are no drive-ins where I live, but I spent last summer in Utah, and went twice to a drive-in there with some friends. On Sundays, the cost was only $12 per car, so I went with three friends and we paid $3 each to see two newly released movies, while eating pizza we had picked up from Dominoes. It was awesome!
Dude, i went to a drive in to seethe second transformers movie AND Star Trek in the same night!!! We could totally hang

wow this is so cool. i now have to go to a drive-in. aqnd is it bad if i am 14 and have never had my first kiss?
jackii0russo 5 months ago
@jackii0russo Not at all. I'm twenty, and I have never had an interest in dating.
LindseytheNerdiest 5 months ago
I've only been a couple times, but it is for sure one of the BEST ways to spend a summer night! Especially in a van or truck with a bed, so you can watch under the stars...ugh! magical.
GeeEmOh 5 months ago
I have never been to one! But you make it sound really spectacular. I'll have to check it out sometime.
tenaciousyoungster 5 months ago
They shut the one near me down about four years ago, but I helped my best friend win 50 bucks in a bet with his dad by kissing him while there!
bipolarduck23 5 months ago
I've only been to a drive-in movie once, and it was so awesome! The closest drive in theater to me is, like, an hour away. :(

Okay seriously now, this is one of my things that I rant about too. Drive-ins are totally the best!!! This one I used toi go to had a swing set under the screen. A SWING SET. Don't feel like watching trailers? I think I'll go for a swing! It kicks all kinds of ass.
Frostbite02 5 months ago 2
@Frostbite02 If Nerdfighters were playground equipment, they would be swing sets. No question.

You're so right! and very funny, I think I have new favorite youtuber!
acrossthedrearysky 5 months ago
My first drive in experience was to see the 5th Harry Potter movie and Transformers (WHICH WAS EFFING AMAZING ON THAT HUGE SCREEN!!!)
I'm a smart ass and will talk to the movies too, but it's was great because if people heard me, they laughed and agreed rather than shushed me lol
KiraraCyborg 5 months ago
I've never beed to a drive-in, but isn't it usually kinda hard to see from so far away?
gulp3sif 5 months ago
@gulp3sif You're not very far away at all, so no. You should definitely go if you can. It's something that can't be explained as well as it can be experienced.

I want to go to a drive innn D:
StarKidGleekSarah 5 months ago
I absolutely LOVE the drive-in! :D There's one close-ish to where I live (well... lived, before I had to leave for college...), and also one close to my grandparent's house.
I got to see the newest Harry Potter movie as a double-feature with the first half :3 *epic win*
KayaSowle 5 months ago
@KayaSowle An epic win, indeed.

I went to a drive-in with my neighbor and her kid when we were little, I think to see Jaws, and haven't been back since! Really need to find one in the area.
Love this!
xemily91 5 months ago
I totally agree! But I will have to take your word for it. I've never been to a drive in. :(
classykate45 5 months ago
I talk through the movies too! except I don't (usually) talk to the screen. Instead I tend to whisper jokes into my friends ears as we watch. I can't help mocking the movie! even if its one I love. This means I have to sit next to people who know and love me, and don't mind being interrupted during key movie moments (even by my hilarious commentary). I want to go to a drive in - but I'm not sure they exist in england.
LovesSummerStuff 5 months ago
i thought drive-ins ceased to exist about 10 years ago...
i must find one!
heavenonearth94 5 months ago
@LindseytheNerdiest - maybe the related videos are about tonsils because they just HAPPENED to catch that bit where you were talking about piles of hormones licking each other's tonsils. don't ask me how they do that. it's scary. also, i love your videos. and i LOVE the drive in. i don't know why i don't go more often. WAIT it's because the closest one is an HOUR away. thank you for your video!
clownfish000 5 months ago
@clownfish000 ...That would make more sense. Hahahaha. But I don't think I tagged the word "tonsil," so it's still a little weird. And thank YOU!

thanks for sharing! support! especially since most drive-ins are dying. Why is it that drive-ins are so much more fun yet they are forced to become extinct? =[

This video leaves me with one question. WHY DO I LIVE IN THE UK?!
owennewburn 5 months ago
I have a drive in really close to me! I go to them all the time :P We have one about 20 minutes away and another about and hour away.
WHERE DO YOU LIVE?! We need to be best friends! :D

I love my drive in :) Unfortunately I am among those people who have to drive for thirty minutes down the freeway to get there... Still, it is very very worth it
nikinik027 5 months ago
I'd love to go to a drive-in movie.
I always get reminded of things that have absolutely nothing to do with what we're watching and need to tell someone.
It'd be so much easier if I could annoy only my movie buddy instead of everyone else in the theater.
alymarcas 5 months ago
@alymarcas Me too! And I can only restrain myself if I'm super-motivated. My favorite is when you're screaming into your buddy's ear during a preview, but then it cuts off and everyone in the theatre can hear you.

It saddens me, that we have no Drive-Ins.

LaLaLaDieNow 5 months ago
@LaLaLaDieNow But at least then you get the added bonus of a blanket fort.
LindseytheNerdiest 5 months ago
Drive-ins are awesome if you have kids too. I usually spend the entire first movie trying to convince my kids to fall asleep in the back seat so that I can stay for the second (often more adult and completely inappropriate for youngins). Sometimes we stay and sometimes not, but at least we don't have to get a sitter!

i wish there was a drive in near where i live :( i don't think there's one within a reasonable driving distance
(random note: pretty much all the "related videos" off to the side are all about tonsils and have pictures of the backs of people's throats....ew 0.o )
geekwidacomputer 5 months ago in playlist More videos from LindseytheNerdiest 2
@geekwidacomputer ...I'm not really sure why that is...Maybe "PWNS" is also the short version of a tonsil disease...? I'm also not sure why that makes me feel so much cooler...

Supernerd. Does that file under Nerdfighter, or is it in it's own unique category?

@OceausPhoenix I'd say it's a definite branch of "Nerdfighter."

ibejimi 5 months ago
