  • Wow, I was one of a number of young apprentices at Cammell Lairds who would treat themselves to a great night out in Chester each Friday back in 1968. I think it was called the Alpine Club. Plenty of booze, chicken-in-a basket, girls & The Black Abbotts performing, what more could a fellah want back then....brilliant.

Which member of the group was it who would be ribbed by the others for ever looking young for his age ? It seems like only yesterday. Great to find the group on Youtube.

  • If I could find a clone of Russ Abbot, he would be my ideal man!!!

  • We were support act to The Black Abbots many years ago. They were loud but very good. A great mix of music and comedy.

  • I would love it if somebody could upload some more Black Abbot clips, they seem to be a rarity.

  • Can't stop thinking about this song!

  • Love this song!

  • Thanks for posting this clip, I remember seeing the Black Abbotts on TV as a child, then I saw Russ Abbott go on to have big success with his Madhouse TV show. I once saw Russ live in Great Yarmouth at the end of the pier show and he was really, really funny. Cheers for this.

  • Thanks for sharing, our great aunite is related to Russ and my father in law was at school with Bobby in Chester. They performed at goodwill hall faddiley for his 50th birthday party and a family friend is still in contact with them!!

  • Cheers for ya comments,They were very popular on the uk club sceen and the band were a real band they did alot of covers as well as there own songs.

But what you have to remember is at the time this band were known this was the style of music of the time apart from ya big band stuff.

    cheers Paul

  • Rotten song.

Interesting to see the old pics of russ though

  • Thanks for the comments, also can i ask what interest you have in this band.

    cheers Paul

  • Remembered them from TV in 70's though couldn't recall any songs.

I suppose they were more of an all round entertainment act than an actual band.
