Zo, I read your article. There is a point on Strom Thurmond. He switched to Repub in 1964. That was BEFORE the "Southern Strategy." What happened? Perhaps it is why Reagan switched in 1962(CA). I grew up in Texas. for the most part, modern day Republicans here are still southern democrats at heart. Heck, Texas was still very blue up into the 70s. However, the Republican party today is not the same Lincoln party my ancestors voted today. Just like Democrats today aren't the same Democrats pre-FDR.

So none of this really matters in comparison to our modern concept of the two parties. Both parties are not without their faults. However, most Democrats aren't racist. Neither are most Republicans.
