The Scholastic Book Of World Records 2009 lists this as the world's worst oil spill ever: 220,000 tons of oil spilled, 260million liters. I wonder how much of that oil remains on Brittany's coast? Have the oysters and fisheries recovered?
A sad state indeed - I wrote a complete disertation at Uni as part of my Marine engineering degree on this and other disasters, that unfortunately had to happen to improve the future design of tankers.
This accident brought about changes in the design of the steering gear on VLCC's (Very Large Crude Carriers)

This tanker and Torrey Canyon makes me feel sad . I dont know why . Maybe just looking at its sorry state . =(
