If you want to buy copys of the old Grin stuff on CD or even old school Vinyl Bob Berberich the singer/drummer for Grin runs a record store in Baltimore MD called Trax on Wax. He will even sign copys if asked..a super nice guy and a real lost legend of rock n roll
My gosh, what are we back in 1972 here?! This is friggin' FANTASTIC! When I want to see one of my old bands do a concert nowadays I want to see and hear something like THIS. No overkill like Steve Winwood, Clapton, Stewart, and all the rest of them do. Just rock like you did back in the old days. Love GRIN!!!!!
The first time I saw Nils (Grin) was in June '69 at the Sylvan Theater stage outside at the base of the Washington Monument. I had just graduated HS. The band actually had a different bass player. My impression was WHO'S THIS GUY PLAYIN' "RED HOUSE" ~ Lots of folks in the Balt/D.C. have had Nils/Grin in their hearts for a long long time, because "we all sung together........."
@barbarajful I got to meet Nils and his brother in Balt before he played with E street band. this band called grin Is the Most underrated Band Ever. and I know of a lot of underated bands.I grew up outside Of Wash D C 1953
GREAT BAND! I agree Mattfordman...way underrated (btw, would've loved to see them). Picked up "Best of Grin Featuring Nils Lofgren" LP in 1976 having never heard of he or the band, and played it until the grooves were gone.
Sad Letter---great song, amazing guitar. Thanks for posting.
I was there - 10 feet from Nils - stage left. Great show! I also didn't know about Bob Gordon until they introduced Billy... It was a magical night... I still play all the Grin albums and his earlier solo stuff.
Oh, God, I didn't even know Bobby was dead until I saw this video. Having him smile at me in the halls when we passed each other on the way to class used to just absolutely make my day. It's not like there was a helluva lot to love about highschool, but there was Bobby. Rest in Peace, you beautiful boy.
Springsteen is possibly the greatest rock and roll performer of all time.Sure he is not as great a guitar player as Nils but as far as singing and songwriting goes he is absolutely among the best
After the gold rush is one of my favourite albums so I am perfectly aware of Nils' legendary piano playing on Southern man and other tracks.Don't get me wrong, I love Nils both as a guitar player and songwriter but I simply like Bruce's music better and I find him to be as great as Dylan or The Beatles.Just listen to Nils' excellent debut solo album and Springsteen's Born to run which came out in the same year and tell me honestly which one has better songs.
@vladamih You can't compare albums based on what year they were released, you have to compare them on the same basis. In other words, listen to Springsteens debut and Lofgrens solo debut (or even Lofgrens debut with Grin) and compare them. :-)
favourite album of all time is grin's All Out - should've seen Nils' face when I asked him to sign it in November 2004 - priceless!!!
And not being morbid or anything - but my family have instructions that this song - but the version from code of the road - is played at my funeral - that said we could have this on a big screen huh??? that would be cool - i'd pay money to see that -

i would argue that in the nils/bruce songwriting debate, bruce is a better lyricist, but nils a superior composer.

Grin was a tremendously underrated band. Their first two records were fantastic. I heard them live in 71' they were great.

Maybe most of you noticed it.

Um, I think he is the only human alive to make a Stratocaster sound like that. Unfortunately, the drummer and bassist suck.

are you aware of nils' contributions to niel young's "after the gold rush" ?
I believe it is typical of the music business that the greatest talents are the most underung (every pun intended)
The depth of Nils' talent as a musician AND songwriter,FAR exceeds bruce's

Great to see something on Grin.
Unfortunately they never received the degree of attention that their output deserved.
