But according to what I heard the reason why they changed the concept of the cult in the movie from the game is because the Order in the game had beliefs and practices that were similer to being satanic, and the director was worried that it wouldn't be exactly "audience-friendly". Hollywood does have limits to what they can put in movies and so out of fear they changed the idea of a sataninc cult into a Puritanistic fundamentalist cult.

This was one of the first games to scare the living hell out of me and I was a mere 9 years old when it released, now that I'm 20 I still get jittery trying to play through it.
It's quite a masterpiece of a game to have that ability, to continue to scare regardless of age.

Shattered Memories is a game that I can just plainly say "It has a brilliant story", without taking an apologetic stance and say things like "If you are able to look away from that part and that part, it can be very good".
@jaisinator Whereas I take a look at Shattered Memories and say that the story line was sloppily put together and without a deep personal feel to it. I support Konami, the original Silent Team, but had Shattered Memories been good (as Origins was) I would have gladly admitted so. Sadly, it wasn't. I found it to be dull and disappointing, not remotely like the others and so isolated and plain. It's an opinion thing, I guess.
@jaisinator Well, I think I was biased while playing Origins. I liked the idea of backtracking and following Alessa's story. Also, the graphics were attractive and appealing. So maybe I didn't pay too much attention to how the storyline was presented as I was rushing headlong just to figure out what had happened. :D

I don't if my version of the game was screwed up (it was translated through hax) but if you do that, you get stucked there cause you were supose to die in that scene.

I think this game must be set in the 1970s, 1980s or 1990s because if it was set sometime now, there would be recycling bins in the alleys. So the game must be set in the time when everyone still wasted loads of energy and didn't recycle their waste.

When you're scared, do you sometimes pretend not to be scared, rather than act couragious. In a way submisive, you don't want to antagonize the evil thats haunting you, but you don't want to surrender?
Oh my god...that gave me real good memories back then...Its THE BEST survival horror so far. 1 and HOMECOMING are the best. I remember till today how amazed I was about the story, soundtrack, cameras views, horror, blood and those hard puzzles and also fun. It was a revolution to survival horror genre...We can count in the hands games that made it: Alone in the Dark (1992), Resident Evil (1st one) and Silent Hill. Others famous ones came closer, like SIREN and FATAL FRAME. RE5 sucks!!!

Whoever it was that informed you probably only saw the movie; in there, what's falling is indeed ash. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that it's ash in the game.

Oh my God, the Silent Hill film is almost exactly like the game! Then why do people complain about the setting? The first game had the fog and ash in the air...so why were people unhappy? personally, i think that SH scares a lot more than RE. RE just mess with our reactions, by showing zombies and similars popping out on the screen, when we aren't prepared for it. SH messes with our feelings, our mind and interior, that's why SH stories always take off our sleep.
To me it wasn't the best horror. Nothing about it was that scary, it had an amazing storyline though. Silent Hill 1 was probably the best horror game.

Sure, but both games are big survival horror series, so its fair to compare the two of em even though they're both good in their own way.
Resident Evil: Surviving zombies by finding weapons and solving riddles.

Oh my god...that gave me real good memories back then...Its THE BEST survival horror so far. 1 and HOMECOMING are the best. I remember till today how amazed I was about the story, soundtrack, cameras views, horror, blood and those hard puzzles and also fun. It was a revolution to survival horror genre...We can count in the hands games that made it: Alone in the Dark (1992), Resident Evil (1st one) and Silent Hill. Others famous ones came closer, like SIREN and FATAL FRAME. RE5 sucks!!!

that athmosphere and noise in the background... it's not just scary and spooky and all that regular horror games/movies shit its kinda wicked...and distanced..remoted , abandoned only harry's steps and then when the sirent comes it's even worse...it's like pure nightmare!...

Is ash just on the movie. The games sometimes describe this being MIST. And that's it. Movies always distort things... Or I can call this adaptation and not distortion... If you read the history of the beggining of this game creation you know for certain that is mist.

Whoever it was that informed you probably only saw the movie; in there, what's falling is indeed ash. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that it's ash in the game.

Ooh! I just saw something. Kaufmann actually says to Harry "And it's snowing at this time of year" So he must think it's snow, SOOOOOO It might be snow. So It may not be a plot hole or a detail that was never elaborated on.

Oh my God, the Silent Hill film is almost exactly like the game! Then why do people complain about the setting? The first game had the fog and ash in the air...so why were people unhappy? Okay, maybe the plot was a little bit dry, and pyramid head acted not like a pyramid head, but still, it was silent hill.

SH movie was better than RE movie from the settin. OK I´m RE-fan and dont want to complain about the film. But SH was more based on his game than RE, in my opinion. The RE movie was almost like an seperate story

no, its not. the original silent hill was not based off centralia, PA. the crappy movie was however. there was never a coal fire in the original game.
see for yourself in the original silent hill. dr. kaufmann clearly states that is snowing upon first meeting him in alchemilla hospital.

Silent Hill is scarier than Resident Evil, hands fuckin down. Plus the fact that its stayed truer to its roots than RE. Resident Evil is NOT scary anymore, but Silent Hill has a certain evil about it that attracts me more and more...

I'm new to the SH series and it definitly scarier then RE. However Resident evil can be just as scary not by enviroment but by the unexpected and surprise heart attack. I can never play the game by my self... I would never be able to play this game. Thank you for posting it!!

personally, i think that SH scares a lot more than RE. RE just mess with our reactions, by showing zombies and similars popping out on the screen, when we aren't prepared for it. SH messes with our feelings, our mind and interior, that's why SH stories always take off our sleep.
