The 23 is a post war construction. The 23 105 was the last west German steamer ever built, was a museum locomotive and was destroyed by fire a few years ago at the Nuremberg museum.
The 52 is a war construction (derived from the class 50 and drastically simplified). Its only purpose was to bring war material to the eastern front. It was designed to last for 5 years (until the so-called "final victory"), but many locomotives were in service until the late 80s in the former GDR.
