I am very much against cruelty to animals, that's why I don't shoot fun, and I usually catch and release. I got past my negative feelings about fishing when I realized how fish treat each other. They tear one another apart and devour the pieces while their prey is still alive. Hooking one and releasing it does seem quite so bad.
thanks for the advise; we have to battle some big ones here in Barbados some weighing in at over 60lbs. I'll try your technique but there is not much restrictions on fishing here so it will never be released by anyone.
I pull the rod to the side to keep the fish off balance all the time... you can apply considerably more pressure from side strain as you tend to use the whole curve of the rod. Every time the fish pulls in one direction you switch to the other... it beats them quicker so they go back strong when released... works with all fly fishing...
THANKS FOR SHARING! Great fish! ignore the ignorance- we can only spread awareness & educate where people are open to it! I live in Florida & Love fishing- both catch & release & catch & grill! we are entrusted with this beautiful planet but for a brief fleeting moment in time! May we all act reverently & honorably as we enjoy her many blessings like fishing!!
Firstly, I am British, not American, and secondly those of us who fish in far flung places want the stocks to survive for the future. If we killed all the fish we caught then very soon the stocks would be depleted and the next generations would not be able to enjoy the sport that we have had. Comercial fisheries should remina catching sustainable fish stocks, giant trevally are not sustainable. Hope this helps.
Thanks for your comment, but I don't feel You Tube is the place for a full blown ethics debate. The short answer is that whether you think fishing is right or wrong without fishermen protecting the areas they fish (In the same way that people who shoot actually end up protecting the environment of their quarry) many of the prolific habitats are policed and protected there by conserving the fish stocks.
@AardvarkMcLeod indeed. There are two separate debates: animal rights and conservation. Anglers are usually ardent conservationists, but may be less convinced by arguments about the suffering of individual animals. Like you say, too deep for Youtube, but I find that the people who have the strongest views on animal cruelty often have relatively naive views about the nature of pain or suffering, and how it is represented in the nervous system.
@ewbie100 na just slaughter rabbits for fun in aus bash them with sticks off the back of utes. rabbits will breed faster than fish. especially when other fish will eat there eggs.
haha well yes he suceeded, I'm from Mauritius and been fishing in Queensland in Australia and u can even catch sharks on baitcaster ;) Great catch mate
9' 12 sage xi2... when fishing on the edge I upgrade to a 14 - 16# to beast them back... Suprisingly not too bad to ccast with a floating line either..
Great catch!

Why catch it in the first place? Isn't that some form of cruelty? Would you do that to a rabbit or pigeon?

what is a big fish doing in such shallow water? btw, that fish looks alot like a crevalle jack--are they related? anywho, nice catch.

Its the same thing only some people refer to them as trevally instead.

They are a bit different. The GT is a Caranx ignobilis, and the Jack is a Caranx hippos. GT's grow bigger, but the jacks still put up a good fight
