  • what kind of rubber duck antenna you are using?i like that one..

  • so how far did it get?

  • @mikeyB357 I didn't try, sorry to disapoint, I discover Echolink and eQSO so I had being like a kid with new toy.

  • Excelente!!!

  • how well(distance wise) does this radio work? Could it hit a repeater 150 miles away and still have good sound quality on 5 watts? I need a quick answer, because I have found a heck of a deal on one. I am very familiar with manpack radio Ops from the US military. Need to know some intimate details on this one. 73's KJ4PTC.

  • I'm not sure because I had never tried the 817 that far; I can tell you that on 70 miles with a ATAS-25 antenna I can talk and hear this repeater with great sound on 5 watts.

Now you make me wonder about that, I should try one of these days just to see what happens.

I tell you what, if I do it, I'll let you know.

  • FYI, my 817 came with two different ends for the antenna. The one you show is for 6meters. The smaller coil is for 2m and 70cm. Sure is a fun radio. 73

  • Thanks for the comment, mine came with both coils also, I agree the long coil works for 6 meters but it works with 2m an 70cm as well, some times I use 6 meters and instead of change coils back and forw. I use the one that has the 3 bands.

    Thanks again ka0zoz, 73
