As someone who actually uses this bridge daily I can tell you I have little affection for it and will be glad to see it gone.
It is not an "architectural gem" of any kind. It is completely utilitarian. Whatever was cheap and worked was what they built. It might have been fine for 1929 or whatever but is horrible for pedestrians and especially cyclists.
Demolish it. Sell the rusty chunks of it to the sentimental. And build a bridge that works and is beautiful that we can be proud of.
They are also going to replace the paseo bridge too.
