  • such a kickass live band

  • Steven Page is the only singer who can pull off 240p

  • This song is a contextually protracted equivalent of 10cc's "I'm Not in Love."

  • Thank you friend for bringing me here:)Amazing song..

  • It's not exactly a break up song. I think it's more a song about deciding to do what you need to do on your own, rather than doing something to please the other person...

  • Amazing song!

  • I'm living this right now!

  • @emmaromanable As am I... Hrmm...

  • seriously, mate..you've got some seriously, lazy, half arsed, Sheldons, cant be bothered weird,, star Trek fans out there.................but hey, thats showbusiness

  • fuck it...by any man of any colour.....absolute genius x

  • bow down people..... saw these guys in London in 1992, this vocal performance is beyond comprehension. the greatest vocal performance by a white man ever recorded

  • @1961webby i dislike you

    lol

  • I never get tired of this song.

  • not even 240p can hold this performance back!

  • The part at 3:20-3:30 or so has always given me shivers. Really too bad he couldn't get his drugs under control. Awesome song.

  • I was lucky in 1998 had season tickets to Raleigh venue and BNL played twice. This is arguably the best, most soulful song they have ever done. Steve Page ladies and gentlemen. Mc

  • I've seen these guys live quite a few times. And this song always made me tear up a little. Beautiful song. I miss Steven.

  • master!

  • "That's Steve Paige singin' for you, folks"

  • @KillahCam00420 Page.

  • This is an amazing performance....so much emotion coming from a real place. Love this.

  • This gives me a female hard on for the 41 yr old Steven Page.... and it always will

  • This song will never, SHOULD never, be preformed w/out Steve. LOVE BNL but without Steve, this song should remain in the closet.

  • Holy cow. That's an awesome performance. They were at their peak here, and Page's vocals are outstanding. What a great song.

  • No matter how many times I reset this video to the 3:00 mark, I still get chills.

  • I could watch this video all day

  • Their my band. Love them. :)

  • Wonderful song, wonderful perfomance... Steve Page is greeeaaaat!

  • Absolutely brings me to tears every time I hear this song.

  • Here's the steven page i knew and loved...the change was absolutely obvious, and sad...im glad there's still a bnl to go c, even tho i miss THIS steven page...

  • Saw them at Glastonbury this year and they were awesome!

  • Cette chanson est tout à fait merveilleuse, presque autant que la voix de son son interprète..;)

  • If this song comes up on my ipod in the car while I'm driving, I shamefully have to skip it or I'll make a fool of myself sobbing in the driver's seat >.<

  • @JilliBelle I make a fool of myself full on going for and screaming it when driving lol :P

  • thank you for posting this song.......... has now become my favorite! thank you so much!

  • I love you Mr Page.

  • Music is passion.

  • I hope Ed doesn't ever try to do this one w/o Steve... Love ya Ed but... this song is Steves masterpiece. Tears every time he sang it live, and I saw them 10 times.

This and War on Drugs are Steve only songs that shouldn't be touched.

  • I'm not digging Ed's hair. He must have been going through a mid-life crisis.

  • @shannal1985 actually he had a mid-life crisis in 2003 that mo-hawk was worst than the blonde.

  • @Edchick28 I saw that in another video and I agree! Neither are great on him though.

  • @shannal1985 Not that matters but yeah those hair styles should never be seen again.

  • 30 day song challenge day 5

  • most underated band of all time.

  • I'm done searching for live performances on youtube for awhile. Nothing is going top that.....

  • How many real singers are on the radio these days? This is not a pop sensation, but a true artist that performs with passion.

  • @glstrojan Who became a pop sensation back in the 90's where some pop still involved talent :P

  • nice

  • One of the GREATEST song EVER!!

  • one of the most amazing songs ever.

  • this is uniquely BNL, one of their best, most soulful, heartfelt songs. Sorry to see them split, Mc

  • was contemplating downing a bottle of Tylenol while looping this vid

  • This song might be the band's masterpiece. Well, this and "If I had a million dollars."

  • i love this band .... i'd marry Steven Page if i weren't already married ... and if he proposed of course *snort*

  • I love this video... I used to get drunk and listen to this....go drunk song

  • @eva1729 Here Here!

  • It sounds like a cheesy wedding tune for the bride and groom to dance to, but the lyrics are hidden and lead a fool away from it's real cleverness

  • Ok so a Canadian man has never be so sexy!

  • best break up song EVER! love it!

  • Come back Steve Page.....................

  • Mr. Page needs to swallow his Vanity and come back to the Band that made him what he is and he made what it is! Come Back Steven you are missed!

  • i hate how i can't download this song

    =[

    it's amazing

  • @melo503 This live version is available on their Rock Spectacle album. You can get it there.

  • 5 people prefer justin beber

  • @jeepdude770 and we will call these people FAGS

  • @jeepdude770 Don't bring that thing in here :/

  • @harrynginny4eva meep meep

  • great performance...its from the Stunt tour!

  • @ 3:36 he actually busted a nut lmao, honestly tho that was an amazing performance

  • Simple superb!!!!!!!

  • so much raw emotion always loved this song.

  • steve,a band is missing 75% of tallent and foundation.

  • i didnt know dwight schrute was in the barenaked ladies. actually steven page is way more stuntastic than dwight any day.

  • Fantastic!

  • Brill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great Music Great Lyrics!!!!!Great Performer!!!!

  • This is the one song that the boys aren't going to be able to sing on tour in my opinion. :(

  • @jaimeh0304 it wouldn't be the same without steve page

  • Wow, he sings with so much emotion. Wow great song

  • A true classic..... I love this song..... Steven Page we miss you sooooo much!

  • I never thought about it, but I agree with the comment that they were the Canadian Beatles. I've been lucky to see them several times, but i agree withouth Steve Page its not the same. Heartbreaking, just like this song.

  • I never thought about it, but I agree with the comment that they were the Canadian Beatles. I've been lucky to see them several times, but i agree withouth Steve Page its not the same. Heartbreakeing, just like this song.

  • BNL are like the Canadian Beatles. Multiple lead singers, multiple songwriters, a great main songwriting partnership, and major success in their tenure. They were massively underrated. And i say "were" cause the band lost my interest when my favorite singer from my generation parted ways...

  • What a performance. What a voice. Bravo, Mr. Page.

  • but you did, Mr. Page.... you did.

  • @fons666 Ha! So true... Such a big part of my childhood gone...

  • @fons666 ahhhh but doesnt everyone, sometime, someday, always? including your very own self?

  • I love this song so much it really gets to me.(: my favorite part starts at 2:33 and ends at the end of the song

  • This may be my favorite song of all time....yes i think so.

  • Wow. up until now i thought he said "i love you" at 3:39!

  • damm this song! love it...to c crinklaw from omaha, ne...wherever you may be!

  • this performance is life-changing

  • Loved it and the BNL.

  • in this vid he looks like a mix between the numa numa guy and the pc from the mac and pc commercials

  • ...is Ed BLOND?!?!?! oh, and I love this song!

  • Absolutely the best. He puts so much emotion into it. Its a shame that it will never be performed this way again.

  • I seriously wish that they would all just get over themselves and get back together. I just watched that midlife crisis, I mean interview that Steve did a year ago. I really hope that they all realize that the reason they were together for twenty years was because IT WORKED. They may not have been hugely popular, but their fans are fiercely loyal.

  • This is what I love about BNL. They sound amazing live. Steven Page doesn't need a studio to sound beautiful. I truly respect this band.

  • Gotta Love It!!!

  • the best song ever. so blunt. so mean. so good!

  • I used to have this on VHS... the whole thing... lost years ago...

Any chance you can upload each song from the stunt tour of 1999???

Rememberable versions of this tour are Brian Wilson, Something fantastic and call and answer... The whole tour show was great though...

  • Fucking amazing. Goosebumps......

  • This song is insane.... Barenaked Ladies rules

  • Goosebumps. thank you bnl for that amazing experience

  • Incredible singer, Ive seen alot of singers and you know that steve means what he's singing about. Straight from the heart. Well done!

  • I saw the Stunt tour concert in Sunrise musical theater. They are an acquired taste , but I've been a fan ever since.

  • This is the first time I've seen BNL live, watching this video now, Steve is way more energetic than I thought!

  • This band is second in my book only to the Beatles, which is interesting because they have a few Beatles references. It's sad with no Steve Page, and hopefully one day they'll all reunite, they just can't replace his voice this far along.

  • True he is the only one who can sing this!!!!

  • This is an awesome song and his vocals are amazing.

  • did his leaving have anything to do with him getting busted for drugs while their kids album was being released?

  • watch his interview on QTV, it answers some stuff like that.

  • BNL was one of the biggest bands in the world at this time, it's weird to think they were the top dogs in the industry when this was recorded. One Week was HUGE, since then they have been plagued with some pretty sad circumstances, but they'll always be my favorite band.

  • how did he die??? thats f*ed up man! some one let me know please!

  • He didn't die, he chose to leave the band to go do his own thing.

  • It sucks that Steve is gone, because now Ed and the other's can't play the songs where he's the lead vocals without it sounding TOTALLY weird. It's basically like the are gonna have a do-over now...

  • Goddammit, Steve, we miss you.

  • LOL what is that at 3:39?? Is that a 1998 cell phone? Walkie talkie? LOVE IT!

  • Comment removed

  • @llamaoffspring

would make sense, since the show is from 1999.

  • I'll be okay..thanks for wasting my time....and my heart will heal....

  • you can tell Steve Page was affected by the words he sang -- str8 from the heart, the stuff the best songs are made of!!!

  • Wonderful song. So much emotion. Saw them in concert years ago. Great band. :)

  • Very well Mrs. Waite - I've done as ordered

I've listened from beginning to end - it's a good live performance. I don't know much about the band - but when he started screaming at me around the 3:45 mark I almost ran out of my apartment with my headphones still attached to my head. What are you trying to do Mrs. Waite - kill me!!! Sheeshhh

Good song, good performance by a fairly nerdy band - but there's a certain amount of soul within.

I hope I haven't locked myself out of my apartment.

  • LOL, Beefman. You sure are a drama queen, you know that? :) You should explore more Barenaked Ladies music here on YT. They are a great band, from Canada. Listen to the "Old Apartment" "Good Boy", and If I had a Million Dollars" for starters. :)

  • I'll do that Mrs. Waite - I've heard from others that they're very a very good live act and a very good concert to see. I'll check some of their other stuff - after I get back into my apartment that is - Shhhhhheeeeeesssssshhhhh!!!!!

  • I love this song and his voice! Barenaked ladies is one of the really good bands out there ^_^

  • He sings this like its from experience...nice.....classic BNL. Love it.

  • i'm confused about some of the previous comments, its not a song about someone leaving you and you having a broken heart about it. The perfect lyrics are about the horribleness of breaking up with someone not for a reason like they had an affair, but because you just don't feel the same way anymore. Like the song says its cowardice and weak to carry on but its very hard to break up with someone and break their heart when they haven't done anything wrong :/ anyway, great song :)

  • We can ALL relate to this, great track.

  • @hominer agreed

  • Why did steven paige leave the band? Hope its just a shoft break

  • Did he really leave the band?

  • this is the best drunky angry at that one that got away song...LOVE IT!!!!!

  • Oh god, that is so right! I need that song for new years because the one that got away is going to be at the party i'm going to be at...

  • I agree and there is always one that did, cracking tune.

  • oooh, shivers!

    *sigh* What an awesome song...

  • I'm late to the BNL's. I love how truely humble they are, which I can only attribute to being Canadians. Two highly talented song writers, able to work together, respect each other, like each other as much as two people can. They have SO MANY good songs. What a band. I'm glad I was late to them, now i'm not sick of them...:)

  • do you know how many btimes i have gotten drunk as shit and screamed with glee rining this song every step of the way and not caring because FUCK!!!!!!!!!!! this is ART!!!!!!

  • He has one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard

  • amazing,plain and simple

  • I love the way he looks right after he says, "I'm not that weak you know!"

  • i know he says "now im over you" but it sounds like he says "now I love you" in this video for some reason

  • "JUST STOP WASTING MY TIME

    AND

    NOW

    IM OVER YOU!!!"

I get goosebumps every time I here that part. Such an amazing song by an amazing band!.

  • I agree, it is an amazing song. I don't know how the lyrics were originally written but I think that he actually always sings it this way...

    "Just stop wasting my time.

And now I know that you will be OK,

and that I've got what I want,

and that's rid of you - goodbye"

  • 12 years of getting the words wrong then! 'PhatMatt5' is right. What you're saying the words are don't fit in with the rest of the song!!!

  • Actually we're both right. I checked it out and he does say both lines, I guess it all depends on the show, and I apologize to PhatMatt5 for having been so rude to him. I should have looked into it before I made the assumption I was correct.

  • It an easy mistake to make. i made it the first few times I heard the song, and then i figured it out.

  • I could be wrong

  • Dude has such a great set of pipes on him. Great song.

  • fucking great song...geesh...what else can i say...he said it all

  • this song.........is perfect with what it is........

I am glad it never became a radio hit......

I can still enjoy it today.

  • first time i've heard this song.... awesome steve is in top form, love it!!!!

  • this is why there is no BNL with out Steve Page

  • @hiketeck

Have you seen BNL live since he left? They're never going to be the same BNL without him, but they're still absolutely awesome. If you're a fan, you owe it to yourself (and to the band) to give 'em a shot.

  • @NeapolitanSixth i have seen them without page and without page its not the band i have been following all these years.

  • @hiketeck To each their own, I guess; obviously, they're not going to be the same. When I heard that he left the band, I said to myself that I would wait until I saw them live again before passing judgment. Personally, I thought their show in Calgary in April was amazing. They're coming to my town next week, and I'm absolutely stoked.

Sure, it's a different band, but they still have the energy and skill it takes in order to make it; the new album is a testament to that, as well.

  • @hiketeck i hate to say it but BNL is nothing with out Steve. i love BNL but Steve made it for me

  • @liamshrek agreed!

  • @hiketeck ur sooooo right!
