Please tell me if im wrong but couldn't you put him in a landraider? (one taken as a heavy choice) theres no rule about him not being able to take a transport is there? and i know its a massive point sink but hey its a tasty target!
I disagree with your assessment of the lone wolf. Sure he is a auxillary choice, but if you equip him with a thunder hammer and storm shield. He will be tying up huge units for rounds and smiting them badly.
Actually for grey hunters you can take the sp weapons without having 10 but you just have to pay for it so it is worth taking wolf guard A. better statline (LD & A) B. better wepon choice like wolf claws and thunder hammers
I would say that it's the opposite for the lone wolfs. I just played them a couple days ago and avoiding 2-3 lone wolfs that and moving upto 12" a turn was a big pain (even more so for assault based armies) and could not keep it up past turn 3/4. In most cases by turn 4 you're going to end up in CC, kill a bunch of stuff/something big, and then die by jumping into CC against a super CC unit like genestealers, beserkers, etc. If the opponent shoots at them then it no loss and rest of army is safe
I've found it well worth dropping that 2nd special ranged wep to pick up leadership 9 (don't forget conter attk does call for a leader check..woudln't it just suck to fail it :P ) as well as getting a PF or Thunderhammer for reduced pt costs.
wouldnt it be 9 guys and aleader not 10 because they all ways say 4 guys and a sergant

1 PF attk with Grey Hunters = waste of pts.

But of coarse, to each his own
