A great band , a wonderful singer, an unforgettable song, beautiful harmony, memories that will never fade away! I ''d love to borrow that drummer and keyboard player! They are right on time! Edmondo ( etsonggalaxy)
No body can do it better than Jerry Butler! For Your Precious Love was his best ever! A song that will never die because the words are able to relate to all of us who are in love with someone. Edmondo ( etsonggalaxy)
Music was so great and diversed in hose day. Every artis was so comletely differant. No one sounded the same or looked the same. Every thing would change every six month.
Randmo, your last sentence is so correct. This guy is the best there is. This singing is serious business to Mr. Butler. His vocal craftsmanship is impeccable.
Belly rubbing and what a wonderful memoryof times that were simpler and my love for my wife of 45 years. when she was only 17. We still slow dance to this and request it from local bands.
Jerry Butler, Sam Cooke and Otis Redding the 3 best ever in my opinion unfortunately Sam Cooke and Otis Redding died young. Their music will live forever.
OMG!!!!! It almost made me scream, and I'm 77!!! I just spent the last half hour listening to every version of this song by Jerry Butler or Otis Redding that I could find and THIS one is, by far, the very best!! Jerry's voice is mellower and with so much feeling I could barely stand it!!! Brought tears to my eyes!
What a remarkable talent and man! Some folks are blessed - Well we all are really - we get to listen to Jerry and his blessed voice and we also get to experience his incredible humanity! The man has always worked for CHICAGO his hometown - what a humbke and wonderful man - A true role model.
bigquest Jerry, you're simply the BEST,everytime i play this song it brought back soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much memories even let me shed a tear or two ahhhhhhhhhhhhh oh world what is life ?? to everything there's a beginning and an end....much love to everyone.
A great video with excellent harmony and drums, etc...Jerry Butler , a perfect " Ice Man " that does it right on! Dynamite! This video, shows the best of him! Well done!
Jerry Butler originaly performed this song backed by a few of his close friends, the Impressions, Sam Goodedn Fred ash, and the great Curtis Mayfield. Through the years, The Iceman has continued to perform this, one of his signature pieces, with unsurpassed style, passion, cool, and gentleman-liness.
I think of my husband, when I hear this song..My stomach feels like I'm on a roller coaster going down.it hurts so much...But I love you super Ron...RIP we will be together again...

I remember seeing this on the PBS Do Wop program back in what 2000 and haven't seen it in a long time. Mr. Butler is singing for his life--although TG he has had many more years to perform this as the sidebar shows--and the back up group was new to a national audience. I love the way the group member at the far left looks to the others "as if he was thinking "we did it."
R. -- today was an amazing day! I can see how you & I will be living a harmonious life right there along side your family. Your sisters are wonderful! You are an incredible person. You will be a dynamite lover when we cross that line. I love you and I adore you. You are the love of my life! J.
J for your precious love i would do anything you are amazing after spending time with you at my sisters im more in love with you I can't believe how our love has grown I am speechless at times i am aglow with the memory of today :) i love you always R.
I saw Mr. Butler in concert in the late '90's in New Orleans. He was as good as ever on stage, I mean come on, he was never known to be a very animated performer. What struck me most was how loving and attentive he was of his wife. That was soooo sexy. You go Jerry, I love you back! I mean, as a performer,of course :)
@Monkmaster1969 Hahaha, you must work for Cook County. Dude, just retire and get it overwith. It's gonna be the same with or without Mr. Butler. I was there when they paid Arthur Anderson a gazillion dollars to tell them to let go of people, not hire new people and have one person do the job of 3 or more people. I called it the plantation mentality in an Annonymous servey and was called in the directors office. Just take your pension and go, that is if there is anything left. Good luck! And im
This beautiful song was and is the ultimate love song from this era and beyond. Jerry Butler has improved year by year. This rendition is even better than the 1958 recording, and that one was terrific on it's own. I had the privilege to meet Mr Butler at a "meet and greet" for patrons of the PBS channel in Phoenix, during a DooWop show . He was very charming and as handsome as ever. What a performance from all of the musicians. Betty Everett and Jerry Butler stole the show deservedly.

I remember sitting at the VFW post one afternoon and this song suddenly came to me out of the blue. It was several years later before I actually ran across it after all these years. This place is a virtual gold mine of the music I grew up with. Rediscovering this stuff then buying it and making up my own "Golden Oldies" Cd's.
So many memories and who else to bring them back but the ice man..what a voice..remeber dancing to this back in the 60's and still do..thank you Jerry U da Man
@Goblinshead no ! you muppet. i come from stockport. how can i came from stockport? just a misunderstanding because i rarely use full stops, comma's etc
This song says it all for the past 47 years of the original sound track. I was in the 8th grade when this record came out. I recorded it off the radio onto my portable tape player and would play it over and over. Jerry Butler is the best!!
@bmx....isn't it amazing that at 70 years old, he still has basically the same chops (i.e., vocal ability) he had as a young man? Incredible. On this one (PBS Special) as well as on the Gamble & Huff special where he sings "Never Gonna Give You Up"....voice as strong as it ever was. With Teddy's passing, makes you treasure the Ice Man even more.
The Iceman cometh... As A young teen taught to dance by my grammy and aunts, I loved holding the ladies close and surprising them that a young Irish trash boy could be a gentleman. Twas the good years
I'm only 32 and enjoy the Good old Oldies TODAYS Music is crap most of it. I was raised on it had a Record Player beside my crib and bed. I DIDN'T HAVE STORIES READ TOO ME I ALWAYS ASKED FOR the American Graffiti Album and play "Goodnight, Sweetheart,
Goodnight" by The Spaniels (1953)
and THEN put on Jerrry's for your Precious Love at 4 & 5 my Doctors thought me really smart and know more about these artist than they DID and they were 40 & 60 they asked what did u do to this boy.
I was working on my car this afternoon - put this song in my cd player and pressed "repeat." It must have played 50 times, and I never got tired of it. I agree with blueblazer64... I'm only 62, and this IS real music! ;-) Thanks randmo!
I was around in the 50's and 60's raised in East Los Angeles, times and things have changed and not for the better.Things changed for me when I came back from VietNam..But this song that Mr. Butler sings makes things better and everything much more innocent..This song was always a song that I would dance to especially when a dance would be ending they would play this song and "goodnite my love".Those were the days. When you would dance so close and enjoyed what dancing was really about.
Once upon a time, Route 66 stretched all the way to LA. UNtil I-40 broke the hearts of the hundreds of thousands who traveled R-66. Once upon a Time, American was Free. People worked for a living, honesty was the best policy and we never started a war but we certainly learned to fight. Now, R-66 is gone, thievery,is rampant. Ten -Commandments in schools are replaced by Metal Detectors to try and keep out the guns. Now, we wring our hands and wonder why We bury children and Kinfolk Cry.
Yes. I was around in the 1950s/60s/70s all the way to now. This is a great love song and believe me I wish I had $10 bucks for every time I sang this song on stage. It brings out the best in people. Great message for anyone to whisper or speak to another. As for me, I sang it for my loving wife and family.
Those of us who were around in the 50"s and 60's fondly remember this and wonder about the music today. It's our job to share "our music" with todays kids. Even if they only like one or two of these great songs, they will hear some of the greatest artists ever. Also listen to Frankie Lane, Johnny Ray, Billy Eckstine, the Four Preps and on and on and on.
A great band , a wonderful singer, an unforgettable song, beautiful harmony, memories that will never fade away! I ''d love to borrow that drummer and keyboard player! They are right on time! Edmondo ( etsonggalaxy)

This song says it all for the past 47 years of the original sound track. I was in the 8th grade when this record came out. I recorded it off the radio onto my portable tape player and would play it over and over. Jerry Butler is the best!!

The Ice Man at his best. One of the greatest love songs ever recorded. Even today Jerry still has that GOD given voice of his.
bmxshowtime 2 years ago 3

Xratti 2 years ago
Those of us who were around in the 50"s and 60's fondly remember this and wonder about the music today. It's our job to share "our music" with todays kids. Even if they only like one or two of these great songs, they will hear some of the greatest artists ever. Also listen to Frankie Lane, Johnny Ray, Billy Eckstine, the Four Preps and on and on and on.
