I have thought about this antenna for a year now and finally bought this antenna from Nigel, I have it up at 30 feet, pointing 280/120 and it is 1-2 s points better than my full size G5RV or Windom10-40 at similar heights and orientation. It is particularly better when the station is week, not heard on the dipoles but 4x2 on the H-422. Broadbeam and bandwidth ok. Talked to VK7 this morning on the H-422 on 20m, loads of K and N's last night and 40m into Europe is a breeze, cheers Seamus GI4SZW
I have been looking at this antenna for more than a year. If could figure out how to add 17 meters to it, it would be a clear winner. I have a 12/17/30 dipole above my 10/15/20 meter beam, but would happily swap 12 and 30 for 17 and 40. Europe seems to like this antenna very much. There are a number of positive write-ups there.
I think this antenna is a NVIS, a cloud warmer. Yes, you can make contacts on but I suspect it would work much better as a dipole and not as a V dipole
You could be right, it's all about compromise. This works for me with my geography and neighbours. I don't want to be playing with a rotator until I get a good Yagi. Yes indeed you can make contacts, over 180DXCCs in a year with less than 10 hours a week on the air.
I don't hear much from Far East though. Middle East is Ok.
Well, it's been up over 6 months now with various winds and gales.Clearly if the antenna is installed correctly and with care, it can handle the winds as specified.
I've done some minimal tests over the las week and had a crack on 40meters worked some Europe and a station from Puerto Rico.Operating QRP with 10Watts.20 meters was ok, Europe and USA, propagation has not been too good though on 20 from my location.
10meters has been nicely open working very well indeed with some Carribean and Europe.
Seems to get out very well with little power.
I'm not an expert and have nothing to compare it to.
What is. The gain ?

Use a traditional dipole, with the + pole half above the reflector/standpole.
You will be amazed about your range!
I tried it 2 times on the 3 meter band with a friend, just because we wanted it to be more omnidirectional...
But when we changed it 1 year later back to what is "traditional", the signal was significant weaker.

I've been researching this Dipole. Found your video & comments helpful especially the tip on the base plate.

Hi Nigel,
When the wind really gets up it handles well.
