The one thing I regret more than anything is not being stable enough to experiance the joy and happiness of being in a wonderful, ongoing relationship. I have been with a couple of beautiful ladies that made me extremely happy, but because I was not able to remain stable and control my emotions I lost them both! Now when I see young couples out in public who are happy and in love, it brings tears to my eyes!! :( Bipolar can be a very heavy cross to bear!!
Promoting a sense of pride in what you have is always good but one should still seek a doctor even if you are uneasy w/ how the psychiatric institutions are run b/c the only way for them to change is for you to put a little effort and faith into them
Wow, I have been sitting here for quite awhile watching and listening and just nodding b/c you make so much sense. I was diagnosed bipolar about 3.5 years ago. Counseling and meds have really helped me tremendously to take control of my life and moods back for the first time in my life and it is so wonderful!! Granted, everything you say makes sense, we feel more than "normal" folks, good bad or indifferent but it is true it is more of a strength than a "disabillity." TY!
great video. I <3 psychiatry. Without any medication I would be very unstable, and now I'm so stable nobody can even tell I have bipolar, and are surprised when I tell them.
I hope you do tell them. Everyone needs to know that it is possible. You have achieved a great accomplishment. The next step is to increase the range so that you can be stable in all conditions. Eventually we get to Equanimity where it doesn't matter what state we are in, they are equally beautiful and we can act the same in all of them.
How true ! with out stability we can't handle the highs and lows that every one experiences! We don't need to be doped into a zombie state ..we need to be able to function in all environments.
Thank you for your common sense and for the courage to speak it!
I think if there were more people like you spread out to other places in the world where Bipolar is known we'd live in a much better place and I'm not just saying that. I say it because I've probably only heard 5 per cent of what you talk about from my own doctors. Even a point in this direction 5 years ago would have helped me understand my condition a bit better. See I'm having trouble with the "freedom" video. I want a cigarette so badly and because Im going to go have it I'm not free.
Freedom starts with knowing that we are not free. Until then we are stuck in a prison cell that confines us to a tiny slice of what is available to us. Becoming free of any habit like cigarettes is a huge step towards becoming free of everything.
I hope you watch the self mastery and equanimity videos. They are about what life is like when we are free.

It's interesting 4 months ago my doctor said to me "how is your mood?, you sound a little speeded up, she offered to increase my medication to bring me down, but I said I was fine and was sent home with a couple of sleeping tablets. Things soon went out of hand and had to get my medication increased. Things are alot better now. I let the mediaction do some of the work and I do the rest.
Having bipolar is very difficult,I have a hard time getting along with others and holding a job. I been on and off countless anti-depressants and they've done nothing but make things worse than what they're really are.
Anti-depressants might help to keep things in check, but will never get us to a point of understanding it or the kind of stability I am talking about in the video. They can help as part of a system that addresses the whole person, but without the rest they can also make things worse as you said.
We need to address the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, career/financial, and relationships aspects if we are to achieve real stability.
I agree with what you said in this video 100%. Having been there (depression and manic) and learned what is happening and how to steer myself back on track. Now I can experience all the emotions in life without fear because I have the tools and understanding to use on the rare occasion I start to skid out of control. Also have a understanding support system that can step in if I do crash, get me back on track ASAP.
