can anyone explain to me why you never see them throw punches??? they do count for points, and there are clear opening where they can connect with punches. yet they insist on kicking only.

well big dummy, yes you CAN throw punches in tkd. punches are fundamental, along with kicks. in the olympics rule book, punches are awarded the exact same number of points as kicks.

point of contact needs to be on the body armor or helmet, hitting of legs and arms don't count (which is why mark got that penalty). trying to hit your opponent in the chest or head with ur arms will put you at a very significant distance disadvantage, look at the speed of their legs, most people can't even punch as fast. it's just not advantageous to do. also punches aren't very desirable due to the fact that a certain amount of impact is required for a hit to count as a point.
Punches aren't awarded points. But starting this year they made a bunch of changes to the scoring system. So NOW punches DO score points. (must be a solid and defined punch to the chest). But before this year during the olympics and previous tkd tournaments punches were never awarded points.

It the same TKD, but if you try to aim there you'll be kick by a conter kick and get knockout yourself, that why they stay clam so they cant read there moves. That's why everyone put down you comment

yea i dont like this lopez guy either.. i really dont like any of the lopez guys. giving US TKD a horrible image. I figure only reason they got into the damn olympics is cuz the older brother is the coach cuz ive seen a lota other guys that r hella better than them.

Instead of condemning each other for our differences, we should try helping one another in a manner that is not offensive and demeaning.
Many claim to be martial artists w/ more discipline and knowledge than the other, but in reality, they themselves have not yet cleaned the dirt out of their own eye.
All I'm saying is, let's try to make it more of a habit to be more accepting of one another despite our opinions. God Bless.

it's a typical american thing, for example look at the UFC compared to other Japanese mma promotions; they're always yelling at each other at press conferences, stare downs, and try to pump up the crowd with cheap gestures to make it more entertaining for dumb rednecks
