If you look for a definition of "The Almighty One Behind The Kit" You will only see John Bonham's picture next to the definition. He is without question the greatest drummer that ever lived. And with the greatest band of all time. Led Zeppelin did the right thing in breaking up after John's death. You just can't replace an immortal legend like him! He was the driving force to their sound. I wish I would have grown up in the late 60's and throughout the 70's! :-(
OMFG They were poised to conquer the Fucking World. They were so fucking tight!! Interrupted by God! Let's see who else has this happened to, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Who, Jimi, Janis, Stevie Ray, etc.; anyone see a pattern here? I do.
Let's everybody relax, folks. I love Zep too, hell our Class Song was Stairway to Heaven, but there are at least 5 bands that could be proclaimed the best Rock and Roll Band ever.
@adamzy123 i am jealeous of you. luckily i saw them at the 02 arena and im from california i just had to check it off my list but it would be nice to see them during the 70's
even if you didn't like this(no way you could ever dislike this but still 7 pathetic __holes did), pls don't click on thumbs down. THIS IS CLASSIC ROCK AND ROLL!
I would like to invite anyone reading this to stop by and check out my acoustic bluez version of 'Rock n' Roll' Please let me know what you think. Hope to hear from you soon!
@RedWolf3487 Sorry, it was 1975. I was at the Sunday May 18th show. Don't like to be the know-it-all but this was the greatest gig I was ever at. I was 16 at the time.
I have listened to many different versions of this song, and they are all great, Led Zeppelin does it the best bar none! Thanks for the excellent video!
He screwed up his voice pretty early, could never hit the high notes he could before he screwed it up, and this show was obviously after he hurt his voice, because he had to take it down a bit.
@onceus Have you seen Robert Plant performing this song this year? I think he can sing it better now than in 1979. There's a recording on MrPageyzoso channel from Jan 22, 2011.
Robert Plant is an amazing singer, one of my favorites, which is why i think its tragic that he hurt his voice. It happened dont try to deny it, but he is still an amazing singer, he just never will be as good. And that is your opinion that he sounds better now so i wont say anything, but he just cant go as high as he could before.
95% of people these days listen to the same crappy pop songs over and over. if your one of the 5% left who still listen to real music, then copy and paste it to t least 5 video's. DONT LET THE SPIRIT OF ROCK AND ROLL DIE!
@mrmike1806 Are you talking about his solo at the end? If so, those are toms you're hearing. There really isn't any part of this song where he's going fast on the bass.
Is it true from reliable sources that Led Zeppelin's drummer, John "Big Sticks" Bonham died from approximately 44 shots of vodka in 1 sitting? Was anything else found in him that could have caused a "synergism"? Dan O'Niallain, Grafton, Ma.
@oniallain1965 Supposedly he was drinking all day and into the evening through rehearsal for their upcoming tour. They resigned back to Plants hoyse and he fell asleep. They brought him to bed and found him the next morning dead, died from his own vomit apparently. Very tragic.
I agree with an earlier commenter...if you can watch and listen tho this for 3:54 without twitching tapping rocking or singing, you have no pulse. No matter what music you may prefer...
This is a great live performance. I have so much respect for the band and how they quit recording music after there drummer passed, RIP Bonzo. They really did play off of each other well on stage and connected so well it wouldnt've been the same without the best drummer in the world by there side.
Challenge: See if you can sit completely still for the entire song. No dancing, opping, tapping, snapping or anything. Like this comment if you succeed.
i think one of the bigger factors to this songs more mainstream success even today is bonham's use of the cymbals differentiating from some of their other songs. Zeppelin is the most kickass band ever.
The thing that really makes this song rock is JPJ's driving bass line with that 4-string alembic. He never gets any camera time, but watch him at 2:02-2:07, you'll see what I mean.
Oh yeah, most definitely. Page is rocking out the entire time too. and then the drum solo starting at 3:21 almost to the end... absolute godly kick-ass.
There should always be love for Led *would kill to see them live and envies all who have*
I like some Led Zeppelin stuff, and this is not only one of my favorite Led Zeppelin songs, but it's one of my favorite songs ever. In this video, Robert Plant doesn't put as much energy into it as he does in the studio version.
