  • do you recommend a specific gauge wire?

  • Amazing!

  • can u put a swich so it can go from PAL to NTSC???

  • can I perform the region change mod AFTER I install a modchip or won't that work?

Also, if I change the video mode to NTSC, but keep the location to "Europe" and language to "english", will the swirl still be blue?

  • Nice vid!

    About the disc;

Is there a Pal60 alternative for the scanrate or only NTSC 60hz?

I've heard NTSC colors end up wierd trough a RGB scart here in europe?

  • @2011member Well, the 60hz output of a PAL Dreamcast is already PAL60, which isn't the best way to go with modern TV sets and scart cables. That's why I recommend changing the display output to NTSC with the region change disc. =)

  • can i make it completely region free?

  • @kingryan3000 Only if you throw in a mod chip!

  • that works well with a ntcs usa ?

  • there are region flash limiter?? or i can flash it many times as i want?

  • @julianmartan You can flash as many times as you want as long as the system's flash memory is intact.

  • Thanks for answering me I accidentally put many comments almost equals i've deleted one of 'em, because i don't like to spam and thanks again it's good to see prestative people in YouTube.

  • I think I had an american one, but I'm not sure. In the american one the simbol is red and in the european it's blue?

  • @LightDarkSonic Yes, the Dreamcast swirl is orange for Japanese and American systems, blue for European ones.

  • @LightDarkSonic in europe there was a company that had a red swirl as their logo, so sega had to have a different colour for that region.

  • Is this Dreamcast european I think I have an American one.

  • @LightDarkSonic Yes, it is European. There is at least one different motherboard version that I know of, but it appears to be quite rare.

  • Thanks 4this it would be cool if those chips came with all orginial sage cd games

  • someone help were do i solder

  • to buy a dream cast go to ebay.co.uk/

  • Could I buy a Dreamcast from you?

  • @MNCWProductions Sorry, but I'm not interested in selling one. But I'm sure you'll be able to find good Dreamcast offers on eBay. =)

  • @TheronInc Well, thanks anyway for the video :D

  • Three "screw" holes lol x D that sounds like my girlfriend

  • Once you do this you can boot a european game on a US dreamcast with out a bootdisc, as well as boot a Japanese import game with out refashioning it every time?

  • No, this mod changes the region setting of the console entirely, it does not disable it. It will act as if it's an imported device and boot games from the region you specify. For a region free experience, check the second part of this video.

  • one sugestion, install a switch on the side so you can easily flash the bios again for region changing without opening the dreamcast.

  • I already thought about that back when I did it for the first time, but I decided not to do it. The risk of accidentially flipping the switch into flash mode without knowing would always be there and could ruin your console before you know it.

  • That's why you put a guard on it, like you see in the movies, they always have switch guards to prevent them from getting messed with on accident.

  • Sure, but to be honest, I prefer my system to look like a gaming console and not like a missile control center...^^

  • you know how the DC has the indent in the tray? place a small toggle switch down there out and away from the disc. Thats what I did when I did this mod. a tiny toggle switch similar to that on a GBA or something.

  • That's a good spot, but for me, a switch is just not necessary. If I ever have to flash my DC again (which is unlikely, as I have also installed a chip), I'm fine with taking out four screws and connecting two wires. It's just not one of those things that you'll do regularly and would need a switch to save all the hassle.

  • well, I havent done the mod chip yet. I cant even speak czech so I cant order it, looking for an english site.

  • I don't speak czech either.^^

The shop site where I got the chip is multilingual, you can select the language on the top right:

    sintech.hitech. cz/ shop. php? change=yes&lang=en&display=home

I don't know if they ship globally, though.

You may want to check that.

  • I checked the shipping, the only rates it lists are for European nations, none for the US.

  • This technique won't let you play games from all regions at a time, for that you would need a chip. The benefits of this mod are that you can transform a system into an import console (cheaper than importing a system) and change the display mode (this is VERY useful for PAL gamers). Thanks for watching. =)

  • This mod is pretty easy to do even for a beginner.

Connecting those two spots on the motherboard isn't hard, the only thing you have to keep in mind is to disconnect the wire once you finished flashing. I just tend to leave two wires in for the rare case that I may want to flash it again in the future.

  • i have a black swirl, how i can fix it... i cant play any games.

  • I'm sorry to say that, but you can't.

The notorious black swirl means that you can't boot any discs at all - not even the region change disc which could repair the region settings.

  • bye the way why modifiqued your console if you can down load the roms from( coolrom)com and ready work fine in any console with any region

  • Why?

    a) because it's fun

    b) because some gamers want to play originals

Piracy was one of the main reasons why this system died.

  • i would also put the fact that the gdrom was not something that took off either > dvd was far superior and therefore helped the demise of a once great console.

  • Of course, the Dreamcast would've lived way longer if Sega would've settled with the DVD format. In many Japanese stores, the PS2 was displayed while playing movie DVDs, while Sega took the fall for it.

  • Does anyone know where to downoad Sega Dreamcast games?

  • on the internet

  • Good to know..

  • hi thanks so much for this video its very well done and im not confident to do the mod myself.

i have a question....i read that if you install a mod chip on a pal console that some 60hz games will stil play at 50hz is this true? if thatts the case i would prefer to just do your region change mod instead as 80% of my games are jap..if i do region change on pal console and change region to jap wil it be EXATCLY the same as using an original jap machine ie no glitches in any game?

  • I'll respond in a private message, as the reply option here is too short for me.^^

  • this is cool video but has anyone here heard of the DC-X disc, it allows the play of any region disc on any dreamcast and plays 50hz games in 60hz and vice versa too and all by a change of a disc after initial load up, no hardware modding is needed at all, its been invaluable to me & it only cost me 10 quid, but then again to some having to constantly change discs before u play a game may become a chore.

  • lol my bad just saw part 2 i see u mention the DC-X there, alot of people i know havent heard of the DC-X at all thats why i asked to begin with, cool vids though, they got me considering going for the mods now :D.

  • Thanks for watching!

I'd say boot discs are fine if you have two or three games you want to play every now and then. But if your library is equally divided into games from different regions, then a chip is the best solution. =)

  • my brother gave me his old dreamcast. I want to do every possible mod to it. kinda like bringing it though hell and back. xD I want to see exactly what I can do with this.

  • why post this on a dreamcast vid??

  • I don`t know if I can mod my Xbox because

Im am so scared to open to take apart in my

Xbox because I might damage my Xbox if I

    open it.

  • your xbox? wtf lol.... this is about dreamcasts..... xD

  • very cool video ,but unfortunatly I am unable to see "exactly" where you added the wires? could you reupload with a close up of the Mother board? thanks,

  • Hi and thanks for your interest.

Please check the links in the description for close up images. There you can see the exact two spots to work with. =)

  • How ironic, i also tested SF III: 3rd strike for testing my unit out after making this mod some months ago.

Anyhow, you don't need to unsolder the wires really, I didn't, and it works like a charm, it's also nice to be able to switch anytime you want.

  • I have performed this mod multiple times now and on the third console I left the cables for testing purposes and inserted Vampire Chronicles afterwards - this game has overwritten the flash so that the console now ONLY accepts NTSC-J titles (even with chip and boot-discs) and cannot be flashed to another region anymore...

Some games try to overwrite the flash, others don't.

That is why I highly recommend removing the cables or even better, installing a switch.

  • Dude, i have a Non mil CD (oct 2000) this will help to read back ups?, thx

  • No, the whole purpose of this mod is to change the region and video mode to your liking.

  • Thanks for the useful video. I bought a second Dreamcast and some cheap US games on eBay to try this mod out on. I might add a VGA port while I'm at it :-).

  • Lol, then I guess my accent is undenaiable.^^

  • dude i like how you say three and thing
