I worked in the building where the movie was filmed. Some of the cubicles and conference rooms in the movie were similar, if not identical, to when we worked there. We moved out of the building and later learned that a movie was shot there. It wasn't until it became popular that I had a chance to watch it.
I knew it! I was watching the movie for the 10th time yesterday and I had an epiphany. There was something in my head that said that MUST be Austin. It just looked so much like Austin. (Born and raised Austinite).
What happened to posting another video with other pictures of other locations? I would love to see those, if im ever in texas i would love to see all the filming locations for real. Love this movie.
@shortymcsteve Sorry, I haven't posted it yet. It's pretty-much finished, just have some finishing touches. I promise I will make a note on this page once up and running. If you have an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad you can download my app on the iTunes store which has all the filming locations and uses Google Maps to show you with street view each location. Check-out my website which will take you to the download page for the app. FilmLocate com
@shortymcsteve I got the addresses from various movie location websites then combined the best of all of them into the app. Plus, I had to make sure each address was compatible with Google Maps on Apple devices. All the work was done manually and tested extensively. It took over three months to put the app together. Getting ready to release version 2 of the Film Locate (paid) app in a week or two on the app store. There will be a new total of 150 of the best movies of all time on their.
Hi folks! I worked on the movie. All of the office interiors were shot on the left side, we didn't access the right side as I recall. The apartment interior was set up at the rear of the building as it seen here, essentially on the other side of the wall from the glassed-in interview area. We shot for a couple of days in Dallas, including parts of the scene where the guys are walking back from Tchotchkies with Smykowski, and the opening shots of the traffic jam amongst other scenes...

Ok, are you guys ready for this? The current owners of the building... well, they have only the minimum required amount of flair... It's owned by a company called Bemco... (sounds very office-spacey, right?) Bemco Productions Inc. functions as a location-scout for film and television productions from what I can gather... Their project manager, Nasir Syed (Na-gonna work there for long!) has a profile on Linked-In (which is just too ironic...)
@jerywilliams The fire was done by placing iron pipes with holes drilled in them around the building, just below the windows. They piped gas through pipes and lit it. The windows were boarded up from the inside with fireproof material to protect the buildings contents because the inside of the apartment scenes were shot inside the building. Several windows cracked due to the heat of the fire. Only the broken ones were replaced until the past month when they finally replaced the charred ones.
@horseboyken Not sure. I went to the location twice within a few days of eachother and there were no cars in front. The Initech entrance is now occupied by a child support business which tracks-down dead-beat dads. However, it appears they only occupy the right side of the building. You might wan't to ask the other person who left a comment below who works next door to this building they probably know if its unoccupied now and for how long.
@shades2 that would be awesome! it could be like a museum and people would have to pay to get in and the people that put up the money would get a % of admission earnings. NICE!!
@Aeolis7 Glad you liked it. Some day when I have time I will edit a new video together with additonal photos and videos of other locations from the movie. I got footage of the "ditch", "Peter's Apartment", "Chockies Exterior" and the location where Milton was waiting at the bus stop. All of these locations are in Austin, Texas.
@defendingthekingdom The bar scene was shot at Legends Sports Bar, 8901 Business Park Dr. Austin, Tx. 78759.
The Psychiatrist's office scene was shot in the home on the southeast corner of Vance Circle and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Austin, Tx. The fax machine smashing was filmed in the then vacant field in Austin at the southeast corner of Freidrich Lane and E. St. Elmo Road.
@stinkfoot151 Thanks for the info on Dr. Swanson's Hypnotherapy Office. I looked it up on Google Maps with the cross streets you gave and found the exact address, here it is everyone... 1010 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Austin Texas 78705 USA
It's been a while since I've seen Office Space, but I think I know the second clip in the film that was filmed in Dallas. I recognized the Hilton Anatole hotel in the skyline in the background (it has a unique shape). Next time I watch it I'll have to get a screengrab.
@djskabone Peter's next door neighbor mentions Las Colinas in one scene however, they didn't actually film any scenes there. According to Mike Judge, only 2 scenes of the movie were filmed in the Dallas area all others were filmed in Austin, Texas.
Yep, this is in Austin, TX. about 1 mile East of I-35 in South Austin. I took more pictures and video on my second trip there which include the "ditch", "Chochkies (exterior)", "Peter's Apartment Complex", etc. I will create a new video for those and post it so keep checking back or subscribe to my channel for updates.
that thing in front of the building is probably either some kind of power, telephone building, or mains water supply/meters and whatnot, or some kind of fire escape.
I asked the lady who came out of the same front door if it still looked the same as it did in the movie, she said she wasn't sure because she hadn't seen the movie for awhile. From closely watching the movie, I'm pretty sure Peter's desk/cubicle was located on the far left side of the building (which I can't tell if it is currently occupied or not). As I mentioned in my last reply though, there is only one door, so it might be occupied currently. I took these at the end of the day.
If you see the exterior of this building, i.e. parking lot, other office buildings and landscaping. You can see these from Peter's window during a couple scenes in the movie. Watch the scene when Peter unscrews his cubicle wall so he can see out the window. In other movies you might think this is all green-screened, however in this low-budget movie I believe this "was" real. Mike Judge said all scenes except for 2 were shot in Austin. This isn't proof but just making a judgment call here.
@stevenpam The apartment interiors were set up to your right as you enter the Initech front door. The cubes were set up to your left. The windows behind the interviewers were boarded up before the fire scene to prevent damage to the inside. Of course the interviews were filmed before the fire, which damaged the glass.
This is a good question. The right half of the building appears to be occupied. In-fact when I went here a second time, I talked to a lady who was apparently leaving work through the same door used in the movie. However, I can't tell if the left side of the office building is completely occupied or not currently. However, there is only one door, so maybe the company she works for uses the same offices inside.
@tory: I grew up in Austin and I currently live there. There is nothing unsual about the accents. Austinites can typically have very neutral accents. There are plenty of Texas drawls here, but there isn't anything remarkable about the characters lack of accents. Besides, I don't think the story ever says where it's meant to be set.
Office Space is my all time favoritest movie EVER!! I would kill to go see this building in person - it's a shame they don't seem to fully embrace the history... I wonder if the inside shots were from this building as well? It was an extremely convincing large office if it was only a set... Thanks for the vid! And watch out for your cornhole, man.
I'm pretty positive the interior shots of the office in the movie were also shot here just by the layout of the windows and views outside the window from the movie.
One more thing... I recently took more photos and video of most of the other Office Space locations now and will be posting another video with everything. Subscribe to my channel so you can get the latest news on that.
@defendingthekingdom Not CGI. Propane gas pipes with holes in them placed around the building. Austin fire department was there both as extras and in case the fire got out of control.
One interesting thing in this movie. It was filmed and set in Texas, yet almost none of the characters had a Texas accent. Not that unsual I suppose, just funny.
@defendingthekingdom As of about two weeks ago, the space where the Initech cube farm was is again occupied. As I drive to work, I take a short cut through the parking lot behind the "Initech" building. There are usually people from inside taking "smoke breaks" there.
