  • Loving my new Roland GR-55 - Would have maybe gone with Axon, but have familiarity with GR line so just went with the latest Roland.

I think Axon totally rocks tho.

  • my jaw has just been fucking DROPPPED!!!! I was looking for a keyboard player for my band. not anymore

  • I heard this tracks better than the GR-20.

  • Basically, once you've got the kit you can play with any vst instruments that a keyboard player would normally use.

  • I have a pod xt live and am planing on getting a Gk 3 roland synth pick up and a Axon 100. I play through a marshall JCM 900 highgain dual reverb combo. CAn I go from the guitar (with the GK 3 pick up) go to the Ax Axon, into the pod xt live into the marshall. No computer involved. Is it possible??

  • what happens when you do bends on this one?

  • sounds like portamento (it gets quantized onto individual midi notes) :(, I think there's a setting to make that behave more like a midi pitch-bend but I still haven't found that yet (I got my ax50 yesterday). despite that, latency and performance is just awesome, never tried the GI-20 but I don't think it can go better than the AX50

  • it actually is a discrete glissando, I always screw those two terms x(

  • it tracks good...depending on the instrument ;) piano, it wont bend like a syth, but after a certain poit it wiuld directly go to the onther half note...... ;)

  • I think the Axon interfaces have more features than the Roland GI-20, specifically the string splitting (e,g, bottom two strings mapped to a different MIDI channel from the other four) and fret splitting (bottom five frets on all strings mapped to different MIDI channel from the rest). Both of these capabilities are demo'ed in this video. The GI-20 only has the ability to mute (i.e. ignore) specific strings.

  • Dose this track as well without a pick???

  • Axon 50 seems to track better midi guitars for notation than Roland GI-20. I guess it also depends the complexity of your compositions...

If you are working with easy notation the GI-20 will work today. Roland GI-20 is perhaps more user friendly and both are easy to set up.

    Both will work with RMC

  • I am not familiar with Axon....only Roland. Will this interface with a computer for writing in composition software? Will this work with an acoustic guitar with an RMC? Thanks for the video! -Derek

  • I don't understand -what is the difference between the AX50 and the AX100MK2?

Are they two different versions of the same thing? Or two different things? Do you need BOTH to make the sounds he is making?

If anyone can answer these questions, I would appreciate it, thanks.

  • yes the 50 is more suited for connecting to a computer (USB) as it has no built in sounds.

The 100 has a soundboard built in (MIDI in/out - nos USB) and is more suited for live performance as it has inputs for expression/hold pedals.

As I understand it you can easily use the 50 (or 100) in a live situation and both intergrate with a pc so you can access your virtual instruments and get your sounds.

read more at axon's website I guess... lol

  • Thank you halipino, I appreciate your help.

  • I think that the AX100MK2 is the piece after the ax50 that takes the midi info and uses synth patches to get the sound. You dont need the AX100MK2 if your going straight into a computer using VSTi's.

  • @d3tach3d this is possible? can i connect guitar to midi in on my soundcard and trig VSTi´s?

i mean, no synth module between guitar & PC?

please, anyone tell me if this is possible, thanks.

ah yes, this review is great! ;)

  • @veroSonica No it is not possible, you need just this axon guitar synthetizer that makes MIDI information /the guitar needs midi pick up, but the midi pick up doesnt do midi signal, its just siglal intended for midi interface like axon or roland gr 20 or 33/

  • @teelemachos thank you so much :)

  • he's a good guitarist, it's good when companies hire good musicians to demp products.

    Guthrie Govan aswell, wow.

  • Guthrie Govan was playing at the booth right behind this guy at the NAAM show.

  • Any idea who the Demo-guy is?

  • his name is burr johnson really great fusion player who demos for axon. check out his website

  • It's not revolutionary OnionRingofdoom, it's evolutionary coz roland and yamaha build that in the mid 80's ^^ but today the pickup it's more precise and much faster than the 80's model and for drumer it's exactly the same, simmons was the first with tama to make electronic drums but roland and yamaha can capture the rimshot with the new trigger and pad system. an another good system to make midi music is the EWI wind controler made by Akai also an 80's electronic instrument.

  • lol, he is indeed the worlds best axon player :)

Graphtech. They have equipment to exchange your saddle parts with piezo ones. These give the best signal for the guitar-midi conversion

  • What is the pick up system? Graftech?

  • Graphtech and RMC make the "under-saddle" piezo systems. They tend to be better than the Hex-pickup type (Roland, Yamaha, Axon) as far as string isolation by a bit, though they're both very good. The real beauty of the piezo setup is the extra sounds you can get just from the piezo.

If you don't want to make any modifications to your guitar, go with the hex type (they make ones you can install with out drilling now). But with the piezo, you don't have a big ugly block on the end of your guitar.

  • This is a truly revolutionary instrument accessory!
