I don't think we should be mining coal anymore. We should use natural energy as a source for our electricity. Mining Coal takes away ground from underneath Earth which can be very catastrophic in the future.
I guess trading 500 Million Dollars worth of Dynamite, 1 Billion Dollars worth of Machinery, 100 Million dollar Pay-out to get 1 Billion Worth of Gold is worth it. Gold is a rarity.
Jees... buy the way the head mechanic was moaning, anyone would think he`s paying for it out of his own pocket. Get your hands dirty and just fix it bitch!
kalgoorlie is a fucken whorey drunken shitty greedy shithole!!! everyone blows their money and push up interest rates and commodity prices for all of us!! they will ruin Asutralia in ten years, they almost had until our savioue the "GFC", long live it or we will all suffer... more that is!!!
@GanEdenAustralia The footage that they've just shown (the underground scenes) are of one of the Kambalda mines, 50km south of Kalgoorlie. I recognise the signwriting on the doors of the Landcruisers. Can't give you a straight answer as to which nickel mine, but was one of their underground nickel operations, back when it was owned by Western Mining
@GanEdenAustralia There's a good chance he has. Top Gear Australia has had one of their challenges in the Goldfields before, and there's no doubt that the pubs are Kalgoorlie, and the underground mines are Kambalda
I grew up in a town called Kambalda - `Kal' was the big city we'd go to on Saturdays to do the shopping - top place! The bus always went down Hay St (which is all brothels to keep the miners happy) - they'd all sit out front and wave to the kids on the bus as they went past - it was the best place to live! Kambalda is on the edge of a 100 mile long salt lake where you could drive 3 wheeled land yachts at 60 mph... not everyone had a car but most had land yachts (home made...)
@Stretchsmith86 - oh, not really - mind u I left in the early 70's and when I left I was like 11 years old and thought the place was cool as...maybe if u were older and working you probably had quite a different perception of the place - what years were you living there?
i lived from when i was born in 1986 and lived there for about 18 years, i didnt mind kambalda i like the bush enviroment and the mining aspect of the town.
@Stretchsmith86 - yeh the way that town literally sprung up out of the bush was the best bit - go for a walk out of town and ur in bush in 2 seconds..loved it. Loved Lake Lefroy for some weird reason too - lotsa good memories - loved land yachts..
@xbfalcon351coupe Not to mention, a lot of fun to drive on. Only place for miles that you can get a car into a 360 degree spin, and not be scared of flipping or hitting anything
@Mechknight73 true...but there were some tourists once when we were there and they were driving in an old Morris Oxford (this is around 1970) that drove onto an area where you weren't supposed to drive; they broke thru the salt surface, sank in the mud and all died...
@xbfalcon351coupe Last time I was there was 2009. The northeast corner is as hard as concrete, and that section is huge. When you dig away the salt, half an inch down is mud. I've seen people dig down 5 feet, and all they still see is that awfull smelly clay
The mining industry was fucked long before Maggy, she actually slightly stabilised it, but everyone blames her for the collapse because she was the first leader who wasn't bullied by the miners.
only cos she sold of the steel and and privetised the railway its a big link cheap rails imported steal then declines then coal isnt needed why do we now open 3 new mines a year
@0xXJONESYXx0 There's a few downsides though. 12 hour shifts, it can get very tedious, and you often have 2-on, 1-off shifts; 2 weeks onsite anf one off site. I lived in Kalgoorlie/Kambalda for two years, and had to leave before the place drove me nuts
Yeah if you want to get bashed or stabbed, or if you want access to heaps of illicit drugs, also 90% cold weather, chronic traffic jams, the worst public transport imaginable, and every single person being a prick.
Have lived in Melbourne 8 years and am leaving in a month or two to study mining, part of which involves working in Kalgoorie. Will be great to get some heat and sunlight for once.
Don't worry about it, they were just feeding the stereotype. But that's TV for ya! :-) Don't be ashamed. Just look at Clarkeson's hair and the fact he's a monumental tosser! That should make you feel better :-D
@clubpenguin777 Depending on how and where you stop. If you do it efficiently, you can do 12 hours a day behind the wheel for four days (stopping at dusk) and make it to Kalgoorlie. Remember that Kalgoorlie is still 600km east of Perth. Once you pass Adelaide and get onto the Eyre, you can't get lost

its depressing that my favorite truck (toy) has the shortest life...
KraZyRuskieFilms 2 years ago
Yeah, but that's cause a huge truck ran over it.
Toyota's can take much, wrecking balls, fire, blown-up from a high rise building, salty seas.
But unfortunatly for everyone, it still can't take on tanks and massive trucks used for mining. Which isn't too surprising if you ask me.
