i tihnk the bad side of the 80's was that there was way too much good music in comparison with today, many of the great bands like this or the sound or wathever will be forgotten sooner or later,
let's just hope i can teach my kids in 20 years or so to listen to good music!
@simionTheOne So true -- I remember thinking this as that great era came to an end. (I'm 44.) I'm glad you're enjoying the music of that time. Though I'm encouraged that pop/rock is getting better again as of late -- melody and texture are being rediscovered by musicians.
Man, as soon as the vocals started my mind went way back to the days of living in the East Village in NYC, blasting these guys in my apartment with a btl of wine and some bud.
My bass player at the time introduced me to KOD...couldn't thank him enough...
There are many under- appreciated bands but xxxx this is one of the best. My friend owns a music shop & often plays their stuff. Apparently it's almost a given for customers to ask, what's this... & buy (when it's available). If you like this track get all their stuff, they're great.
I've not seen this video since it was released and that was on the late night ITV car crash that was The James Whale Show. What a way to start you recording career, with this and the astonishing debut 'Prize'....
great song from a great band! pls check out our video, we are still trying to get that shoegaze/ambient feel.. just type, jam experiment video file 1 (or video file 2).. leave a comment, thanks!
makes me want to wear only thrift store clothes, don eyeliner and grow my hair all down in front of my face and look really sullen and introspective and all wierd and artistic and stuff. . . .these guys have the most intelligent sound. . .truly. . .
This is my favourite video. It brilliantly combines eccentricty, weirdness, humour and an earthy natural feeling that complements the song. I'm an english surfer and know how cold that water is!!! The director should be very proud of this work, a master piece.
had this song on a TAPE,.. year's ago many many years ago on a mix tape maybe it was college radio I don't know where I was but I would listen to it all the time.. you remember song's in order on mix tape's....man you gotta love you tube..
i was lucky enough to see this band at a pub called the hand and spear in weybridge surrey about 1996 just before they broke up, for just 1 pound on the door. i told julian swales he had the most beautifull heavenly swimming ice-crashing angelic guitar sound ive ever heard then later on, i got this song dedecated cuz i was jumping around so much.4 great albums all worth checking out 5stars
For any newcomers to K.O.D. posting on here, just thought you ought to know that Patrick (the singer) currently works under the name Stephen Hero - check him out for equally excellent music, and look for his most recent album '57 Stars'. I saw him at The Water Rats supporting The Wooden Tops earlier this year - both were excellent! Got a signed copy of his album after a brief chat...nice gent.
hehe, how big were this band? the drummer now lives in the same village as me, he has been down to our house a couple of times and said to check their music on youtube.... :) bit weird now seeing him in a band on the internet
One of my all time favorite bands and this has to be one of my favorite songs (along with Mainly Mournings). Does anyone have any idea what the title of this tune means??? Pls help.
This came from the liner notes of "Capsule, The Best of KOD 1988-94". The CD came out in 2003.
"One of our first songs. Julian wrote the music in San Sebastian in '83 whilst waiting for Dan to turn up on our of their European jaunts. The title, from a sci-fi dream of Julian's, came before the lyric. It was our second single on OLI, and almost got played on Radio 1. Recorded in London at Berry St. Studios."
Loved this band! Saw them for the 1st time at London ULU where they supported the House of Love (along with Lush!). They played a cover version of joy divisions lost souls and when they came on stage they introduced themselves as The Chickens Of Destruction! From then on I was hooked. Miss em so much now...thanks for the vid uploads though. Great to see !
The first time I heard this it was for 30 seconds and I soon after went out and bought the album.
I think it's their best song, packed with emotion and swirling guitars. Never thought of them in with the shoegazers really. Good to hear their singer is still making music.
Another underestimated band. But I believe that it is better. I love this band, of special form their first album "love is Hell" (1987), which sounds between a fine post punk and a beautiful and atmospheric shoegaze. They have influenced to as present bands as Editors and Interpol.
This song is from the georgeos album "starnge free world"........................please Listen to them!!!!
A little of JOY DIVISION + COCTEAU TWINS + THE CHAMELEONS U.K + THE SMITHS = KOD.
timeless, absolutely brilliant and well before it's time. if anyone wants to hear more of patrick's new material then go to myspace and look up stephenhero - '58th star' is incredible, he is a genius. his new album '57 stars of the air almanac' will be available in august. i cant f**kin wait. unfortunately, it seems there is no chance of kod reforming. very sad about that cos i hear so many bands now who's sound is so kod derivative but never quite reaches their heights.
I just love the sound of KOD. Im still am a big fan of there music. I have all there CD`s but havent seen any videos other than "Drive that fast". Thxs
Underrated is exactly appropriate, because they got swept under the carpet here in the US by grunge and the rise of Nirvana. I hated grunge, loved KoD and felt they never got the exposure due them.
the kitchens were one of the best shoegaze bands. i doubt if kurt cobain has ever heard of shoegaze music. he was probably busy w/ grunge, courtney, & suicide.
Nobody ever seems able to mention Kitchens Of Distinction without eventually using the word 'underrated'. I never can either. This song is my favourite of theirs, spine-tingling.
