  • i tihnk the bad side of the 80's was that there was way too much good music in comparison with today, many of the great bands like this or the sound or wathever will be forgotten sooner or later,

let's just hope i can teach my kids in 20 years or so to listen to good music!

(only 18 now so i've got time i guess)

  • @simionTheOne So true -- I remember thinking this as that great era came to an end. (I'm 44.) I'm glad you're enjoying the music of that time. Though I'm encouraged that pop/rock is getting better again as of late -- melody and texture are being rediscovered by musicians.

  • I remember buying the Love Is Hell album (vinyl) in Antwerp. I still have it and it still is one of my all-time favourites.

  • Man, as soon as the vocals started my mind went way back to the days of living in the East Village in NYC, blasting these guys in my apartment with a btl of wine and some bud.

My bass player at the time introduced me to KOD...couldn't thank him enough...

  • Fitzgerald is like a gay Henry Rollins.

  • I still have LOVE AND HELL album , early CD I bought back then....

  • 0:10 he's walking on chocolate chip cookie dough after it's been baking in the oven for only about 3 minutes

  • @cvg1099 Mmmm. You made me hungry. Great going.

  • Muchas gracias Railwayed por estos increíbles videos de esta súperbanda. Saludos a todos los fans (que deben ser pocos) de

  • Forgot to add...shame on the BBC for shedding 6 MUSIC, the only xxxxxxx place you'll here such stuff, apart from my mate's shop.

  • @KITCHENOFDISTINCTION: presumably some form of interior decoration store? Not a Kitchen salesman, surely?

  • There are many under- appreciated bands but xxxx this is one of the best. My friend owns a music shop & often plays their stuff. Apparently it's almost a given for customers to ask, what's this... & buy (when it's available). If you like this track get all their stuff, they're great.

  • I've not seen this video since it was released and that was on the late night ITV car crash that was The James Whale Show. What a way to start you recording career, with this and the astonishing debut 'Prize'....

  • This reminds me of the joy I have when I swim in open waters. I jump and swirl the same way :)

  • great song from a great band! pls check out our video, we are still trying to get that shoegaze/ambient feel.. just type, jam experiment video file 1 (or video file 2).. leave a comment, thanks!

  • makes me want to wear only thrift store clothes, don eyeliner and grow my hair all down in front of my face and look really sullen and introspective and all wierd and artistic and stuff. . . .these guys have the most intelligent sound. . .truly. . .

  • Gay British doctors. Great combination.

  • I still have the album " love is hell" on both vinyl and...Compact Disc..

  • This is my favourite video. It brilliantly combines eccentricty, weirdness, humour and an earthy natural feeling that complements the song. I'm an english surfer and know how cold that water is!!! The director should be very proud of this work, a master piece.

  • quanti hanno copiato da questi ??

  • at 2:15 turn up your speakers as loud as they go. I dare you not to feel a wave of emotion rush you.

  • It's a full on headrush.......

  • had this song on a TAPE,.. year's ago many many years ago on a mix tape maybe it was college radio I don't know where I was but I would listen to it all the time.. you remember song's in order on mix tape's....man you gotta love you tube..

  • Jope! Los he descubierto hace solo unos meses. Esta canción junto con 'Railwayed' son ambas una maravilla.

    Gracias por el vídeo.

  • i was lucky enough to see this band at a pub called the hand and spear in weybridge surrey about 1996 just before they broke up, for just 1 pound on the door. i told julian swales he had the most beautifull heavenly swimming ice-crashing angelic guitar sound ive ever heard then later on, i got this song dedecated cuz i was jumping around so much.4 great albums all worth checking out 5stars

  • awesome

  • Great memories. This KOD cd was absolutely great.

Anyway, when you are 18, everything is great, isn´t it? ;-)

  • what a brillilant comment. A brilliant song that reminds me of swooping and swooping around any dancefloor that played it.

  • Oh yes, 1989. Great song.

  • thanks for uploading this. i have the vinyl 12" at home but my record player's been broken for years.

  • I discovered the band with this title and still have the CD at home ( album LOVE IS HELL)

  • es una de las mejores canciones que he escuchado en mi vida...es sublime

  • Heard this on 6 music the other day and nearly came in my pants. Excellent, excellent track!!

  • This is really something special, does anyone else think the band British Sea power have been influenced by these guys?

  • I never thought about that until reading your comment, but there are similarities. They are both really good.

  • "Turning water into brine..." brilliant!

  • For any newcomers to K.O.D. posting on here, just thought you ought to know that Patrick (the singer) currently works under the name Stephen Hero - check him out for equally excellent music, and look for his most recent album '57 Stars'. I saw him at The Water Rats supporting The Wooden Tops earlier this year - both were excellent! Got a signed copy of his album after a brief chat...nice gent.

  • awesome song mate.....

  • hehe, how big were this band? the drummer now lives in the same village as me, he has been down to our house a couple of times and said to check their music on youtube.... :) bit weird now seeing him in a band on the internet

  • Ehm, they sort of co-inspired the Shoegazing thing. Otherwise I think we can safely say this was a cult band.

  • One of my all time favorite bands and this has to be one of my favorite songs (along with Mainly Mournings). Does anyone have any idea what the title of this tune means??? Pls help.

  • This came from the liner notes of "Capsule, The Best of KOD 1988-94". The CD came out in 2003.

"One of our first songs. Julian wrote the music in San Sebastian in '83 whilst waiting for Dan to turn up on our of their European jaunts. The title, from a sci-fi dream of Julian's, came before the lyric. It was our second single on OLI, and almost got played on Radio 1. Recorded in London at Berry St. Studios."

  • @vegankennedy Also it's from War of the Worlds, the book by H.G. Wells

  • Which album by these fellows should I purchase first?

  • love is hell

  • All of the Kitchens records were superb so dive in!

  • Wow. This song brings me back! Thanks!

  • this song is like impossible to find nowadays. Gr8 song , great video , great band...

  • Memories of youth are great in moderation otherwise they just bum you out! This is such a great song!

  • Loved this band! Saw them for the 1st time at London ULU where they supported the House of Love (along with Lush!). They played a cover version of joy divisions lost souls and when they came on stage they introduced themselves as The Chickens Of Destruction! From then on I was hooked. Miss em so much now...thanks for the vid uploads though. Great to see !

  • Sorry, I meant London ICA not ULU...Must be my old age...:(

  • i thought the song was great but now that i've seen the video i know it is bliss

  • wow is all i can think to say

  • me gustaaa me gustaaa

  • after watching this I'm gonna copy my vinyl copy to my computer so I can listen all the time. It brings back great memories.

  • Just discovered this band & now buying up all the shit I can find. Nice one Railwayed.

  • This is great. I remember hearing this in my youth, maybe on the ITV chart show. haven't heard it since then. Thanks.

  • kod win with chiming guitar work

  • If I could only listen to one band the rest of my life, KoD might be the choice.

  • @heighzeus I thought that once too. Although now I might say The Verve.

  • this song brings back memories of me and my ex girlfriend and one drunk summer, good times really, i truly miss this band

  • The first time I heard this it was for 30 seconds and I soon after went out and bought the album.

I think it's their best song, packed with emotion and swirling guitars. Never thought of them in with the shoegazers really. Good to hear their singer is still making music.

  • ha, anyone who thinks Interpol is something new and innovative needs to hear this band

  • Excuseme, This song is from the magnific and genial Album " LOVE IS HELL"

  • Another underestimated band. But I believe that it is better. I love this band, of special form their first album "love is Hell" (1987), which sounds between a fine post punk and a beautiful and atmospheric shoegaze. They have influenced to as present bands as Editors and Interpol.

This song is from the georgeos album "starnge free world"........................please Listen to them!!!!

A little of JOY DIVISION + COCTEAU TWINS + THE CHAMELEONS U.K + THE SMITHS = KOD.

  • Rough Trade? I thought they were in One Little Indian

  • Yep, that´s right

home of such other great bands like The Sugarcubes.

    Still a great song

  • timeless, absolutely brilliant and well before it's time. if anyone wants to hear more of patrick's new material then go to myspace and look up stephenhero - '58th star' is incredible, he is a genius. his new album '57 stars of the air almanac' will be available in august. i cant f**kin wait. unfortunately, it seems there is no chance of kod reforming. very sad about that cos i hear so many bands now who's sound is so kod derivative but never quite reaches their heights.

  • Drive that Fast was posted but removed for some reason a few months ago.

  • Good band, Has anyone got the video for 'Drive that fast'?.

  • Great song, K.O.D. and New Order was the Indie-Highlights in 1989. Thanx Rough Trade / Factory

  • were

  • LEJOS, UNO DE LOS MEJORES TEMAS DE KOD

  • I just love the sound of KOD. Im still am a big fan of there music. I have all there CD`s but havent seen any videos other than "Drive that fast". Thxs

  • Wow, good god, what a fantastic song!

  • Underrated is exactly appropriate, because they got swept under the carpet here in the US by grunge and the rise of Nirvana. I hated grunge, loved KoD and felt they never got the exposure due them.

  • nirvana? totally unrelated, dude.

the kitchens were one of the best shoegaze bands. i doubt if kurt cobain has ever heard of shoegaze music. he was probably busy w/ grunge, courtney, & suicide.

  • Erm, okay then. I preferred Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, The Boo Radleys, Ride, Medicine, Lush, Galaxie 500, Spacemen 3, etc.

  • those were good too :p but KOD's Amazing though prolly ties with Ride in my opinion

  • agreed!

  • yeah...I preferred Frank Sinatra...what one has to do with another...GREAT song

  • Nobody ever seems able to mention Kitchens Of Distinction without eventually using the word 'underrated'. I never can either. This song is my favourite of theirs, spine-tingling.

  • yes, respect!!!!

  • had this on video years ago video player got repossessed and this tape was in it! - love this band - ace guitars!

  • One of my fave tracks of the eighties.Great band , great vid ...thanks .

  • Simply incredible. One of THE most underrated

    bands. Ever.

  • I bought the LP in the late 80's..and discovered tge CD version of LOVE IS HELL their first ( and best ) LP

THANKS , i had never seen the video clip !

  • Wow. I had never seen this video before today. Thanks.

  • this band is incredible.thanks for let me see this video.javier muñoz from peru.
