having owned a civic vtec coupe and a crx, and a 320 e36 and a 318is e36 id like to point out RWD for the win!!!!!!! on a serious note tunability is cheeper on the civic but the bmw was more comfey smoother ride and quicker better exhaust note (and anyway what you gonna get more looks in a honda or a bmw) jap scrap man!

each manufacturer makes sometime super hi-power engine and normal usage engine- BMW will be slower with 1,8 engine because of weight- have u ever ridden a '91 honda- rattle and noise.
BMW has a ton of sound-deaden materials inside so it has to be heavy- but the silence inside is at no compare to any commuter car like honda civic is.
Honda makes high HP engines, but check their torque... let's look at sporty (not standard) versions: honda civic vtec '91: 1,6l/149 KM/144NM honda civic vtec '97 1,6l/160HP/153NM bmw 318is '91 1,8l/140HP/172NM bmw 320is '91 2,0l/190HP/210NM and the normal engines: honda civic '91 OHC-8v 1,5l/90HP/120NM bmw 318i '91 OHC-8v 1,6l/105HP/143NM
It all doesn't really matter, the BM's have decent handling in corners, and Civics will only be good for slow speed drags ... even 318is will beat them, if driven properly. And the 318is is only basic BMW model. Civics have no other benefit than being light and cheap. So is every Fiat.

Its because of the differential......320i differnetial is just 3.45:1.... Thats why the acceleration is horrible.
But try competing wth 320i at 160KM/H and see which car is still able to accelerate.... Thats where the 320 will pull ahead...
