@LaoSoftware Have you mentioned that to his vet? Where does he sleep at night and where is he during the day when you are at work? It could possibly separation anxiety. There are a few solutions I can think of, not sure if they will help or not... but they are worth the try. 1) Get a clock and wrap it in a warm blanket ( mimics the heart beat of mom) 2) Puppy daycare ( he can play with other puppies all day long) 3) The Thundershirt (a shirt that gives them a "hug" and makes them feel safe.

@LaoSoftware Do you leave your dog for the whole day? You shouldn't have a dog at all then. But if it's only for a short time then start with leaving the dog a couple of minutes. The moment it's quiet you come in again. NOT when it's howling or barking! Take your time. And eventhough the dog on the video looks cute, I'd never accept this behaviour. I own dachsies too and my dogs are totally quiet and relaxed.
@LaoSoftware dachshuands are burrowers as we all know i own 2 myself and my mother in law has 3, its important for them to have a create. it gives them a safe feeling when your not home or are sleeping. it stopped the whining and crying when i orriginally got mine.that was over 3 years ago. they feel safe in there when no ones home. now mine sleep in there anytime they want its there space. im sure he would love that even put something of your in it so he can smell you while your away
Perheps try also putting him in a bench at night and for the first two or three night sleep next to him, but do not open the door when he cries! Also try a shirt that has your smell on and give it to him to sleep on. You can also try let him go to sleep a bit on your lap and then gently put him in his basket. Also try a vetinarian or dog trainer to help you.
@theworldofwonder no. There is no law against it but it is for the dog's safety, just like we buckle up kids. Now, my dog does ride in my lap sometimes but if something happens and you are in a wreck, that little pup has no protection between him/her and the window, etc.

This sweet little girl almost brought tears to my eyes....that beautiful little face and sweet whimper. And kudos for being such wonderful parents and securing her in her seat! She is a charmer....she is lucky to have y'all!
You might look into purchasing a traveling "Look Out Box" car seat for your dog. It protects and somewhat encloses the doxie and is actually strapped in with the seat belt. The doxie sits in the box area strapped to it with her harness. She would be more comfortable. I've had one for my doxie for 9 years and it also allows her to see out of the car and you better. I have it in my back seat and I can view her in my rear view mirror. It's lined with that fake lambs wool material for comfort.

@npresgra88 I got mine from Petsmart the brand is Outward Hound. She still wears her seatbelt harness when she is in it, for extra safety. I will post a video of it in the next few days, how to install it and safely put puppy in.

I really watch what she eats ( she also has allergies, which makes it harder on what she can and can't have) it is easier for them to gain weight than it is to make them loose the weight and try taking food away from them.

The little guys are SO sweet but can be mean. Mine bit the crap outta my aunt one time. @jeanassell That is the way Sasha is, She weighs 15 pounds ( she was just at the vets on Tuesday) and her vets are not concerned about her weight. That is the average weight for a doxie. It is unhealthy for doxies to weigh too much,as it puts stress on their backs and joints.

my dashund [haha also black&tan] also keeps "singing" like that all the time in the car, but she HATES car rides, since we can do everything by bike here, the car rides are for going to the vet, so she thinks like this: car=vet= :(

My doxy is quite happy sitting on top of a suitcase to look out the window but we also have her buckled into her harness for safety reasons. :)
