Diane does pretty good on this one. This one slipped by me! The group was always stellar because of the fabulous, top-rate back up. Together, the three were perfect and all played a major part in the sound. Peace and thanks for the upload.
The Meet The Supremes expanded edition says Barbara is not on this song, but i hear 3 voices in the background, and if she didnt officially leave The Supremes until July 1962 why wouldnt she be on this sing, since it was recorded january 1962, i think Harry weinger is so full of crap half the time
Diana sounded like a screech owl at the end of this song. They should have redone the ending. As usual Mary and Flo make wonderful harmony. All in all, a good song.
I love Diane voice thru all the changes even those that come with aging which is a natural phenomenen.Mary voice deepened and Flo was a Contralto at the end of her career.A lot of singers smoked heavy back then and it effected their voices. I love all the Supremes even thru Diana nasally whiney period still great sounds.
Diana Ross is an old alcoholic "bat." Her voice has deteriorated and is just about gone. Soon, we'll be calling her Judy Garland and people will pay to watch her "croak" the songs of the legendary trio while she falls down drunk on the stage! Throat surgery had nothing to do it............too many drugs and booze!
Diane's' voice today is in serious deterioration.........it is deeper, huskier, and hoarse sounding. There is nothing beautiful about it! Diane's voice is pretty much shot! You need a hearing aid!
kentmclau Yes, people ARE entitled to their opinions and tastes. Even if some of those opinions are not correct as in your case if you think that Diane can still sing! Enjoy all the Supremes sites and remember when Diane was a part of something bigger and greater than HERSELF!
@SpazChat As far as I am concerned, Diane's voice today is shot. She is dependent on overpowering phony SUPREME background vocalists, a full orchestra, and electronic sound system synthesizers to correct her voice. If you call that still being able to sing, I'll have to disagree! Yes, thank the Lord that the brilliance of THEIR voices live on in the recordings of the legendary SUPREMES.
@kurtsupreme , then how does someone who can't sing get booked at concerts where people pay her to sing. I don't understand. Diana uses auto-tune now? It's about time
@SpazChat Most of the llegends of the 1960's can't sing anymore. Certainly Aretha, Dionne, Patii, and Connie Francis are also among the group whose voices have seen much better days. .I don't know why people still pay to see them, but they do. I guess they still remember how they were in their heyday and want to see a famous celebrity. Diane's deteriorated voice is very dependent on her sound system, the phony SUPREMES, and the orchestra to carry it off. I wouldn't go see any of them!
I don't get how some of you don't get that this IS Diane singing lead on this song! She practically comes out of the recording and screams, "I'm Diane!" That was the sound of the Supremes and Diane that I fell in love with 46 years ago. To tell you the truth, it is the Diane of today that doesn't sound like Diana Ross..........her voice is shot!
This is one of my favorite songs from the "Meet" album. I don't think this has ever been anthologized outside of the original LP. I would love to see that whole thing remastered on CD.
yes because its so amazing i have been a fan fo as long as i can remeber, i am 52 years old and i really thought, i was the ultimate diana ros fan but the other day, wow lol lol do you remeber will this be the day ? i think it was in 68 the other cover side of love child, that was a beautiful supremes song also im so glad i got somebody like you around the other cover side of livin in a shame, oh i could go on and on the beginning of the end, let me stop once again thanks so much
who ever you are honey i must tell you over and over again i humble myself down to you i thought i was the one who new them well evre since this i have seen i am wrong but in such a good way on my way to work in the morning it is fab thanks so much
Barbara Martin is on this song, she's on most of the songs on Meet The Supremes, except "Right Way", "Time Changes Things" and "You Bring Back Memories"
I wasn't referring to this video.I meant that as an overall singing voice, her's is a very sweet voice.I know Diane can sing ,I've seen her and heard her with The Supremes. She can be talking and go right into a song and it sounds just like it did on the records.
Sounds so different from Today. Jeeez. Even sounds much different from The Supremes of 1966

@carolinaguy321 When was Diana not a screech owl? LOL! Bless her heart. She actually seems to be singing in a lower key than usual here.

@pookiechristopher Mary's voice deepened with age, not smoke. And Flo was still a soprano, very much so.

diana ross had throat surgery to remove growths from her vocal cords. her voice now is deeper, huskier, more mature and more beautiful.

@kurtsupreme Diana can still sing, but it's not the brilliant , accurately pitched, fluid, high soprano she had from 1968 to 1975

They don't know it's her singing because she sounded so different back then. This is the unpolished, very early untrained Diana/ Diane Ross singing.

diana is not as nasal as she became which was a better timbre for the group

There's something different about Diana's voice here. It sounds fuller.

It sounds lower and less tinny for some reason...
