Haha, this is so funny. 1/2 inch to an 1 inch will paralyze the Pacific Northwest (not the airport) but will sometimes close schools. Eastern washington however would need like 4-5 feet. Go figure.

In places where you don't get much snow they are more concerned with drivers who are unfamiliar with it who are more likely to have accidents

Northern states like Massachusetts can do very well with lots and lots of snow. There are almost no hills and the roads are curved upwards. In the south like Tennessee, there are a hell of a lot of hills and flat roads. People slide around like crazy. It took 2ft of snow or enough for plows to have a hard time to get out of school in MA. When I moved to TN, if the snow sticks to the road, schools out. I was like, holy crap thats awesome.
