  • Who cares about the graphics! It is all about the gameplay, and I think it looks amazing!

  • WARNING!!! high level energy force detected :D wonderful game :)

  • its got sound effects from Return Fire lol

  • This is really a great game. Soundtrack was amazing. I enjoyed playing it.

  • 0:33 real time shadows ON the real time particles !!!

  • looks like that he shit his pants.

  • The only thing I don't like about OUTCAST is the way the guy runs as if he needs a long shit of flaming hot diarrhea

  • I like how the charater run as though he has shat himself..

  • this game was the 1996's crysis 2

  • Ow yeah, this is one of the best games ever!!! I could never forget, you mentioned, the history? AMAZING, the soundtrack? unbelievable, the graphics? SUPER( for the time it was released)

I remenber being so upset because my PC just had'nt a video card to play this game properly.

  • was a good game/ the music was great

  • loved this game, its an absoloute classic, never noticed how constipated he looks when running though

  • The sound effects for them dying is the same as in Age of Wonders

  • An LN-DUO 500? Come now, I took down High Town with simply a pistol!

  • @DSCraze

    But thats no fun :p

  • Just thought i'd let you know that i downloaded Outcast from GOG games and it works pretty well, better than all my other XP installs. You can ride the Twon Ha and he almost runs through the water and there is no bad audio, you also don't need the patch.Definately worth getting.I'm going to reinstall it on Windows7 and i'll let you know how it goes.

  • I think at that time most games were in corridors, tunnels or warehouses,Outcast is almost exclusively outdoors which is a contributory factor when trying to weigh up why there is such a fierce loyalty to a game that, on the face of it might appear to be a bit naff.Other factors like the dialogue, storyline, humour and open endedness of it are well documented.Me , still think it has had the greatest impact on me and i've played them all, they all lack the emotional, other world elements ofOutcast

  • gameplay: fantastic AI: fantastic Story: fantastic Graphics: fantastic!

  • ahh its been such a long time since i played this game. What i really loved about the game was the music made it feel every different from others

  • i really havent realized while playing at release that this game was to good for its time, and i really hadn`t the pc too,

  • The detail of the game is amazing. they dont do gamesl ike this now :(

  • 3DMarks06 CPU Test.

  • This game looks interesting, it's been on my wishlist for quite some time now. You can get it from gog.com if you're interested. BTW, if you want to see a ~real~ living world, try Gothic or Gothic II.

  • @diegopmc: Or for those preferring more recent games Risen - even though nothing compares to gothic 2 and its addon.

  • I think this game is more of a nastalgia thing. I tried it and it was okay, especially for 10 years old but then again I played system shock 2 before playing this and that too is a 10 year old game but I loved SS2. I would take ME over this though anyday. just my opinion.

  • Seems like fighting back isn't on todays topic if you ask the A.I.

  • There will never be an Outcast 2 because Outcast sold very bad.

In my opinion it´s one of the best games ever

  • I just instaled this game last month and its never gets old.

    VOTE UP FOR OUTCAST 2

    Peace out. l..l_

  • I would like to add another good part of the game that wasn't mentionned. In some view the game could be considerer a good rpg : Thrown into another world, getting to scavenge for ammo, buy new weapon, and having to kill ennemys, etc.

Also the weapon are quite well thought, especially with the upgrades : A simple gun with high ammo capacity, a rifle with a high rpm burst, a big explosive ammo gun (bazooka), a mine/grenade thrower, and finally a flame thrower, a good variety in my opinion.

  • i love this fucking game!!

  • best part of this, soo much money to pick up after :)

  • he runs like he has a dick up his ass :D

  • omg how he runs

  • The sky and the water and some other details look great even after ten years!

  • poor fight

  • More games should use voxels

    Such an underused technology

  • @Doom2Guy surprisingly, this game doesn't use voxels although most people think it does.

  • @DanSealey47

Actually it does! Well ok, not "real" 3D voxcels, that I agree with. But the quick way of creating a natural-ish looking landscape from a height-map are still called voxels.

Only thing is the technique doesn¨t allow for overhangs (but I think it easily could, by adding another layer of height-map for instance, but that would probably be too much for the computers back in the day).

Just for clarity, Outcast also mixes in polygons.

  • @DrWhooooooooo

The only think I really miss about voxel in todays games is the voxel grass from the original Delta Force games.

Today if you are playing online and you have lush vegetation around you (with limited range from the player because of system resources). You know that as soon as you pop into a sniper scoop, or similar, you will see a flat surface on the other side where people seem to "hide" in on there end looks like tall grass, but to you only looks like "tarmac grass".

  • The way he runs just bothers me.

    The animation is absolutely dreadful.

  • 10 years old buddy

  • u nearly got killed. I played this game in 2002 its the best

  • She cant guess how old this is. It was - and is - beautiful.

  • You start running wierd when you get a little fatigued.

And what the fuck is wrong with you anyway kiddo?

  • I swear back in 1999(Yes! when the fucking game was released!)You would have been impressed! And you would probably not have been able to play it anyway.

  • sort of... outcast was rate a everyday game at that time infact less... reason: out cast was relased late and at the time the games were about x2 faster than this as tou can see by the bullets and adventure are all slow..

basicly its like u playing xbox360/palystation3 then they realsed a ps2/xbox game ...

    i hope i proved my point... =3

  • You might be right but...

I remember the local PC gamer mag giving it a very high score and regurlarly praising it today along with that other great game from 1999 "Planescape: Torment"

It should be mentioned that they are kinda picky...they gave "Fallout 3" 81% for example.

And yeah that first gun looks like its shooting some kind of nerf darts....that kinda lame.

  • Comment removed

  • @FoxyAnimator No, that is not correct at all, this game predated all the other games graphics wise by a huge margin

  • @FoxyAnimator . I think you're completely missing the point, besides being wrong, Outcast was named game of the year in many leading gaming mags and online sites at the time, and that was taking into account the sometimes ropey rendering. If, at that time, you were obsessing about 3D cards then this game would've been the antithesis of what you'd want.If you can forgive its shortcomings then this game is something special to those that 'get' it. Long live Outcast ( falls on his sword)

  • I can run GTA IV and Crysis and I still think Outcast looks great.

  • +1!

  • @Rottingham well either you "run" GTA 4 on a Pc with no graphic card, and/or you need eye surgery.

  • I thought the dialogue was a bit excessive on this game. Blah blah blah blah.. other than that, awesome game.

  • I sometimes wondered if they had 3 voice actors - one for Cutter and then the rest :p

    But still awsome!

  • Well, they had about 15 voice actors credited. I head them and the different talans do have different voices. They just modified them (made them deeper artificially) the same way (Jan's voice for example is on an higher pitch than Kroax or Zokrym, even if they have the same tone).

  • The dialogue didnt bother me very much.

  • I liked either sneaking around and taking out the guards one-by-one without them realizing I was there, or charging in with just my (un-upgraded, for the most part) pistol. Mmm, glroy charges.

Another approach I liked was dropping mines and running away.

  • Nice I like your style :)

  • Thanks :p

(The erratic randomized direct approach no-clue wing-it style?:p)

  • I played through this game not a long time ago. And it is really fantastic and you really feel like exploring a completly new world and expiriencing an adventure. Something the new games completly lack - atmosphere. The beginning was hard though due to the lack of ammo. I played the german version - where the voices were perfectly dubbed! :O gosh such a pity that it was so underrated and the company ran out of money.

  • Exactly! What you say is so true, you really feel like you are left in a new world, especially the first time trough. They really made å fantastic game!

A shame it wasn't recognized more at the time, and that they had to abandon the sequel.

I read somewhere that some of the settings in the german version was translated wrong, so "high" is not really high. Not sure which settings, maybe you are aware of it? I guess clicking the "up"-arrows on the settings work, whatever the name says.

  • Yeah, some of the graphic options are translater wrong. But you just had to notice, change and restart the game so it went in those nice smooth rendered graphics

  • Seriously the best game ever and if you disagree you are wrong!! =P

Shame the sequel was cancelled, but if you google 'open outcast' you can find out about an unofficial sequel in the works!

  • Then I am right =)

  • You're not subtle at all :) I remember playing this game without wasting any ammo by using my fists and sneaky tactics :) I really want to play this game again but my twon-ha wont jump :(

  • I know, I suck at subtleness :)

No ammo? That never really occured to me, didn't know it was possible. But I guess I stick to using ammo. I know, its slightly cowardly to be invisible and place explosives here and there, but its just too much fun :-)

Twon-Ha's: I got some tips about that in one of these videos, I think it even was this one, next page or something. But they never worked for me neither, but its not the biggest deal. Another solution: Play it on a slower system:p

  • In short the solution to Twon-Ha's is to use some kind of CPU-killer, or CPU-grabber. I never got that to work.

On my third play-through now btw, partly on my main system, and partly on a new netbook with slower CPU (1.6 GHz). Twon-Ha's work on the netbook :-)

(I copy savegames between computers, works great)

  • If you have a dual core processor: Run cpugrab.exe and make it run on only one core (can be done after pressing ctrl + alt + del). Then make sure Outcast is running and that OC3 is running on the same core that cpugrab is on.

  • Ah of cource, thanks! I gotta try that. Do you know of a way to set a programs affinity automatically?

  • Another tip. If you are "evil", you can redeem yourself and be "good" again if you give zorkins to the beggars in Talanzaar.

Of course, if you have killed all the beggars (they only appear in Talanzaar), then you are in for some trouble... :)

  • Thanks for the tips! That's good to know (or evil ;p).

    You really know your Outcast!

  • Awesome game, easily on my top 10 list! A shame we wouldn´t see the sequel. If I somehow would win a billion bucks, my first priorities would be to fund Outcast 2, a proper X-COM 3 and a proper turn based Fallout 3. And a directors cut Deus Ex 1 with the White House, Earthquaked L.A, Russia/Siberia and the Moon-mission included. :)

NB. The flamethrower is also an good choice when one must take down a lot of high powered talans - unfortunately, it takes 4 green and red Helidium to make one ammo.

  • Throw in a development team for Anachronox 2 too, and I wish you luck with your billion bucks!

    Outcast on top, of course:)

    Kudos for helidium knowledge :)

(I can never remember such things, except I think I got flamethrowers now. thanks! :p)

  • Regarding ammo. Collect hoti (the red fruit) lying on the ground in Okaar and sell tem to Balazar in Talanzaar. He pays you 80 zorkins per fruit (if you are "good" and after you gave him the first 10 for free as a quest). It is much easier to collect a lot of fruit than to gather red helidium or other rare stuff for making ammo. I use F-links in Okaar, always returning to the Daoka, back to Okasankaar and then teleport to Okaar again. The fruits are replenished everytime one leaves the region.

  • Nice, I'll keep that in mind when I revisit Adelpha! I feel a third visit is coming up in the not too distant future :)

(Aah, I said visit.. I must be loosing it.. its a game, but what a game!)

  • This game reminds me a lot of Syphon Filter, in the terms that it's a fun-as-hell game, but the main character always walks like he's handicapped.

  • Lol yeah. Don't know about Syphon Filter (thanks for the tip), but I agree about the walking / running.

I don't know, maybe anyone would run like this if they were forced to run around forever in a strange world, just by someone pushing W on a keyboard:p

    (Joke. Bad. Very!)

  • The music and the design of the Levels was so brilliant, with the new Graphic and Physic -Engines, they could make an Epic new game !!

    OUTCST 2 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 4th time trying to reply to this comment... they just keep disappearing. in short: I couldn't agree more! I got it late 2007 the first time, and I'm forever a fan! It's still impressive and fun!

Maybe hardware accelerated voxels is sort-of possible by using GPU's for the voxel engine?

Google CUDA and nvidia, for example.

I'm not much of a coder, but I find it interesting in that respect (among others).

  • this game kicks ass

  • I love this game. I played it for MONTHS!!! It is defo one of the best pc games ever made.

  • Another GREAT video of a GREAT game!

I also always took the direct approach =D I suck at sneaking and killing things one by one.

I always storm in and kill all that dare to move, lol!

Btw. how do you get the Ulukai-dance? I did get it, but I always thought it was a fun extra at the end of the game.

  • Thanks:)

I don't know, I never got that dance haha. I j only saw it here on youtube. But my guess is to get 100% score on the main quests. Last time I had 98% (go figure). First time I don't know what I got.

  • i remember i got lost in this place and i didnt know how to get to okarr so i tried to get the mon in talanzar and i actually got a glitch that let me past the gate in high town that leads to the ending bit. just by jumping alot lol, was quite young-ish when i did that

  • I didn't know about that. Quite a short-cut! But you missed all the fun, and the Ulukai-dance at the end:p (I never got the Ulukai-dance myself btw)

  • lol yeh, but also if u get over the wall u just get stuck lol, u can look around the area but nothing happens. Damn i wish the game worked on my new computer lol, u download it and then u cant start it up =/

  • Maybe you need to set compatibilty mode? Check my other comments under my Gorgor video for some suggestions.

  • jesus i miss this game, i remember doing all of this stuff years ago =/ nice one tho :)

  • The music in this level was brilliant.

  • This game is definitely the best I´ve ever played !!!! CoD 4, GTA and Mass Effect (for example) are good games, but this is the BEST !!!!!!!! I wish, that Outcast 2 comes out !!!!!

  • I'm with you on that one - I wish for Outcast 2 too! But that will probably not happen for a long time.. if ever.

Strange, I always get the urge to play Outcast when looking at Outcast videos!

For the moment I'm looking forward to Mass Effect for PC. I haven't played it yet (no xbox), so I don't know a lot about it but I'm hoping it is somewhat similar but better. Reading your comment I guess not:p But still. About 1-2 months left for that as of now (may-ish. :)

  • I now have played Mass Effect 1 (a good while ago now), and I completely agree. Outcast is much, much better!!

Still, I enjoyed ME a lot too! Currently playing ME2, and really enjoying that one as well. But Outcast had something really special! Not to mention better AI, I'm sure! The world seems more alive.

  • @DrWhooooooooo

Exactly! It feels like you are in the game or a part of it cause of the amazing soundtrack and voice acting. And in my opinion the graphics are still good! I also liked the skybox. I want to play the game but I cant find the CD. =`(

  • @DrWhooooooooo

In all the games i've seen nowerdays, theres just no feeling, depth or emotion like this! (Soundtrack)

  • there are a few ..

  • @DrWhooooooooo

    ME is nice, at best!

ONe of the best games i ever played is Fallout 3, i'm going nuts with the new release.

But like you said, Outcast has something special, you feel like part of a wonderful movie.

Now just take a time to imagine the Fallout engine on a setting exaclly like Outcast.

  • @gfurst Yes I have to agree, though I liked ME too (but it feels too restrictive/corridor FPS-ish)

I really liked Fallout 3 too! (Never played 1 or 2), and I def want New Vegas some time!

And yeah, Outcast like that would be awesome. You most probably have heard of Open Outcast, they used the Crysis engine (dont remember what it is called atm), but they made a fantastic Outcast mod!

  • @gfurst I think it made it feel as if you're in a movie because of the good music. Music always has deep impact on how people expirience games

  • @derjoghurtmitderecke But mass effect is the only game (in my opinion) what comes close to Outcast, it's a shame that they never released the sequel:( But i am full with hope for OPEN OUTCAST :) it looks incredible amazing for a fan based game/mod.

  • Hehe, Nice video(s) (all of them) bro.

I never attempted to go up there actually.

  • Thanks bro:)
